Re: MC-47 mic pics

Guys, Thank you for your responses. Why I was asking for a picture is because I was looking for one (MC-47) and couldn't find one. The reason I wanted one
was that I had the regular hand mic, MC-43, but that one does not have the 4 buttons on the front. The MC-47 does which on the TS-50 or 60 can do other menu functions on the fly. You can set each of these buttons to operate a menu function of your choice.

So I found several MC-44's on ebay for around $15. That model had the 4 buttons on it. I looked?at the schematics of both the MC-47 and MC-44 and the up down, and 4 buttons operated the same and the schematics for both were the same. There was one difference though, the 44 had a condenser mic and the regular 43 had a dynamic mic.

So I was thinking if I got?a?44 I could install a dynamic mic element from a 43 mic into it if the swap would physically fit. The TS-50 does not supply the voltage for the condenser
mic element where the element from the 43 needs no voltage to work. This is why I was hoping someone had an inside picture.

I have since found a 47 from a friend. That mic had a problem but it turned out only to be a bad ground wire on it so it's now working and I have my 47!

I use the 4 buttons on the front for ... 1. power out, 2. cw filter in or out,? 3. cw reverse, 4. AGC fast or slow. This avoids you having to go to the menu to change these
settings while operating. Extremely handy.

Now a 47 did pop up on ebay after I did all of this but I'm just a retired social security guy and can't buy everything. I wish I could buy that one to have a spare. If it's still
on ebay in a couple weeks I'll try to get it.

Long story I know. 73, Bob W4JFA

On ebay you can search for OEM MC-43S microphone, and find something reasonably priced.
?
If you can find a direct replacement for the element, it's possible it would be more expensive than purchasing a non-OEM microphone.
Good luck,

I have a schematic but wanted pics so I could see what the element looked like along with its physical size etc.
Thanks, Bob W4JFA?

MC-47 mic pics

Good Day,

Does anyone have any pictures of the inside of an MC-47 mic? The factory?original mic for the TS-50.

Thank you.

Re: TS-450S BCB sensitivity

?
This is not a comprehensive response to your query but I hope it suffices for now.
?
The channel number is really just a frequency that is the KW standard for alignment. The Menu number is something else.
?
To my understanding, there are two procedures that create a digital curve that is stored in ROM. One of these is the S Meter curve and the other is the ALC curve.
?
If you perform RX alignment of any consequence, you must perform the S-Meter curve procedure, and the same can be said for TX adjustments and the ALC curve. Neither of these procedures are particularly intuitive, so I would suggest going through them a few times for familiarity.
?
Please note that these "curves" require that you perform the #17 EEPROM write as described on page 43 of the SM when you finish the procedure.
?
I hope this helps....73...Jordan VE6ZT

?
As much as you can share on your findings and solutions would be much appreciated.? I understand the idea but haven't understood how to use the adjustment mode relative to the Adjustment tables.

Hi group...
?
I'm not finished working on my 450S, but i've got to say that the 450 and 850 service manuals contain some very poorly written translations from Japanese, and also some errors in the alignment instructions that take some time to decipher and adapt to the correct alignment methods...

More later....73...Jordan VE6ZT

Group...

If there is someone with a TS-450S who can check the change in sensitivity crossing the 499 to 501khz and 1704.00 to 1706.00khz points (where the BCB attenuator is switched in and out) I would really appreciate it...Even better if you have a signal generator and can tell me the S-Meter changes at those frequencies...
?
I'm trying to limit the number of times I have to pull the RF board because of the stresses and strains?on the board, connectors and thru-holes...

Thanks...Jordan VE6ZT

Subject: [Kenwood-Amateur-Radio] TS-450S BCB sensitivity

Hi group..
?
I have a 450S which has served me very well for ~30 years now. Long ago, I jumpered the resistors which formed part of the BCB, effectively removing the attenuator. It was fine for years like that, but a few months back I noticed a drop in BCB sensitivity.
?
All other bands are fine...
?
I checked everything I could, replaced the jumpers and verified the ckt, to no avail.
I checked the control line for that?band at the 74LS245 and found what I thought was the problem, so this morning I replaced that IC.
?
It didn't solve the problem. The only other thing I can think of is that one of the 2 RLS135 diodes for that band might be flaky so I checked them as diodes and they test fine.
?
Is it possible that these diodes might operate fine for DC but not for RF...?
?
I think I'll replace those two diodes and check again, but this has me a little stumped...

TS-50 front buttons

Hi all, I have a TS-50 that has all the foam that holds the front buttons in place deteriorated beyond use. I'll figure out something here but I was curious if anyone
has already been through this and has any hints.

Thanks in advance.

Re: SM-220 two tone adjustment

OK scrub that. I ve just found the pot adjustment screws underneath the bottom cover ... ?.

SM-220 two tone adjustment

I'm checking the performance of my newly acquired SM-220 and note that the levels of the two tone generator measured at TP1 and TP2 are 5.8V p-p which is nearly double the specified 3V.
?
So I decided to adjust them but found this to be impossible because VR108 is inaccessible (under the CRT) and I can't see VR107 anywhere. My PCB doesn't match the drawing in the service manual.
?
Any ideas please?

Re: Kenwood SM-230 Station Monitor

I leave my 220 in line all the time, and turn it on for the first few transmissions from each transmitter so I can see what my signal looks like. (I'm one of those idiots who constantly tinkers with their audio train. Sometimes unexpected things happen...) ? ?I leave it off otherwise to save the CRT. ?Insertion loss is negligible as measured by VNA or watt meter (located just before the antenna).

Re: TS-870S rear panel audio input

I believe the speech processor is only available for the microphone main connector circuit.

Re: TS-870S rear panel audio input

Thanks Sam that link was very informative and it has persuaded me not to go down that route. I don't need the complication of an audio rack!

Re: Kenwood SM-230 Station Monitor

I couldn't find an SM-230 locally but I did get an immaculate SM-220. Not the same colour as my radio but it will do for now.
?
Do you guys leave the monitor in the antenna lead all the time or just connect it up when needed? Is the VSWR / insertion loss OK?

Re: TS-870S rear panel audio input

I think the main difference between the two input methods is that the mic input has a differential amplifier to cancel common-mode noise (i.e. noise imposed on both the signal and ground wires from the microphone) where that isn't the case with the ACC connector input.?

Thanks Trevor. I get the impression that the guys doing this are running external audio processing whereas I would just want to use the mic (at an appropriate level).
