Using iPad as remote desktop?
开云体育How are you trying to connect your iPad to your BAP? I assume you are running some version of VNC, but have you joined your iPad to the BAP SSID? Are you referring to the BAP by a name or IP address??These are the answers we'll likely need to help you. Ken, N2VIP On May 15, 2022, at 10:17, Joshua Ellis <jjellis2010@...> wrote:

I purchased the cable below and am both powering and connecting to my raspberry pi via a hardwired connection versus the wifi hotspot. Once connected and powered up, I connect via VNC Viewer using the raspberry pi hostname.? I tried a couple of different USB-C cables before I found one that would power up the raspberry pi 4. I have one of the early pi 4 that had a power problem bug. https://amzn.to/3wjSwhT |
As for power, to bypass the USB problem you can use a 5v regulator to connect directly to the GPIO pins.
There are two pins that are 5v on the GPIO and plenty that are ground. (Edited, got interrupted, didn't finish thought) As for connecting remotely, KM4ACK has a great tool for building a PI and setting up wifi connectivity. Since no DNS is present you'll likely need to use a IP to connect via VNC viewer to the PI. You would connect to the PI's broadcasted wifi and then use VNC viewer to control it via whatever device you're using. I haven't done it that way exactly but I've connect to my Pi via my phone over my network. A bit different but the same in some aspects. |

not really adding anything here but wanted to say I’ve had great success doing just this with BAP. Laptop, iPad and iPhone. At home I use my network, in my truck I join the BAP wireless (activates when it realizes my network isn’t in range). |
开云体育Tom,I'm not understanding what you are describing. If I understand your situation you are using an RPi 4, you take a USB-C cable, connect the RPi 4 to the laptop for power, and connect to the RPi 4 "via VNC viewer using the RPi hostname"? If you are not using WiFi, how is the network connection established? Maybe I'm missing something, but it isn't adding up for me. Hello Jason,
I use Hotspot Tools with my Xiegu/RPi/DigiRig/iPad and it works great when there is no internet available.? Like others, I have been exploring RPi alternatives and acquired a mini PC and am using it headless with the iPad as screen/KB - very impressed with performance. This is fine when I am on my home wifi network, but can you please point me at some documentation to build/install a PC based package on the mini PC like Hotspot Tools so I can take the package into the field?? -- tnx ... @Tom: There are a large number of documentation sites out there. I used the key words of 'debian', 'access' and 'point' (debian being the base OS of RaspberryPiOS. I like:
Most of the good directions include hostapd and a good dhcp server. I don't like using 'bridge' functions, unless I'm passing through services to my home network... |
Kevin & Jason, I know that my question was not really BAP related but there seemed to be a lot of chatter about RPi alternatives. Glad I found one ... BUT prefer BAP/RPi for my Go Box. Works great. In fact, I use it as a demo when I take my gear to the Ontario Science Center for my volunteer shift. Visitors can relate to email and (of late) internet system failures. Great attention grabber and from there I can bridge to demo'ing amateur radio general benefits. As always, thanks for help/support. -- Tom VE3NY Toronto, Canada |
I'm kind of a path-of-least-resistance Linux guy. At one point early on, VNC was giving me some static about the number of machines I had on it, or similar. I have two Linux Mint laptops, one windows laptop and one ios device. A fellow on a Linux forum suggested Nomachine and even at my low skill level, I've been using it almost daily since.
