I am running an FT-100D, Pi4 4 GB RAM, and a Drigirig; this setup has been working with JS8Call for many months.

I am having issues getting my setup to transmit with FLRIG, PAT, and VARA HF; eventually, the "connection" times out. I have followed KM4ACK's YouTube tutorial several times and still no go.

I did a clean install, twice, of the 64-bit Pi OS as the Pi originally had 32-bit Pi OS. I installed all the previous apps and got them configured, minus CONKY; CONKY will not go into transparent mode, another problem. My last step was to install apps for VARA.? FLRIG test button does get the radio to transmit.

If there is a post that covers my problem, please point me to it; several searches did not turn up anything.

Now VARA HF has black panes and none of the menus are responsive, I can X out of the program.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled VARA.

Haven't seen the black square on VARA before so not sure why that is happening.

Are you starting VARA from Pat Menu? What's your rig control statement in Pat Menu settings?

Not sure the exact location of the rig control statement, I attached what I think you are looking for.

After adding the last three lines to the config file Conky is working.

Verify the rig control command has the correct path. Run

whereis rigctld

in the terminal and the path should match what is set it Pat Menu "Rig Control Command"

What's concerning though is that Current User and Current Grid is missing from Quick Stats window. Run:

pat configure

and verify that your call & grid is in that file near the top. Be very careful if you mod this file. One comma out of place will cause pat not to start. If you make changes, you will need to restart the pat service. Do that with

sudo systemctl restart pat@$USER

Mycall and locator are set correctly in pat configure.

I re-installed Pat and Pat menu, deleted confg.jason and setup again.? Pat menu is still not showing Grid info.

As long as you confirmed the user & grid are set in pat configure, ignore the quick stats. Could just be a minor bug. I'll fire up a pi and see if mine does the same thing.

Did you resolve FLRIG not keying the radio? If that's not working, neither will Pat.

FLRIG keys the radio.

I rolled back to a previous image and VARA is no longer showing black panes.

Still no Tx.

At this point, I am abandoning the Pi for anything other than packet and JS8Call.

I have set up a more robust PC running Linux Mint and 73 Linux. ?VARA and Pat are communicating unlike before. I am unable, though, to connect to any VARA HF gateway. I have tried multiple stations on 40, 30, and 20M at distances between 5 and 500 miles.

Listing on another receiver, I hear my station sending out the packets. I must have something configured incorrectly.

You aren't the only one having an issue. I incorrectly assumed in the beginning that it was only a minor setting that was incorrect. Looks like the problem is unrelated to 73Linux and is a Pi-Apps/VARA issue instead. See this for reference:

I got my radio configured correctly, Pat and VARA are playing together on the new computer.
