I was having trouble with VHF Winlink on the IC-7100, but now having it working well. I'm making this post so that anyone else who has an IC-7100 (or any recent Icom radio) can see the settings that work and use them as a starting point for their own Winlink VHF station:
I have an IC-7100 and want to try Winlink on 2m. Everything works fine on HF.
I'm using the latest build of BAP.
Pat, Pat Menu, FLrig, Direwolf, AX25 are all installed.
I used the BuildAPi patch tool to update/reinstall direwolf and hamlib as when I duplicated these steps on another pi, it didn't work until I did the update/reinstall.
I get no errors when I run the command,
direwolf -p.
FLrig is running and working correctly. I can use FLrig to put the radio into transmit. Here are the relevant FLrig settings for an IC-7100:

NOTE: The FLrig
mode is set to
FM-D. If you have it set to just FM, it will key the radio, but will not transmit a data packet (that was my original problem!).
Settings:arecord -l shows:
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
card 2: CODEC [USB Audio CODEC],
device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
My /etc/ax25/
axports file says:
wl2k
N3JF 1200 255 7 Winlink
My ~/
direwolf.conf file has the following changes:
ADEVICE?
plughw:2,0MYCALL
N3JFMODEM 1200
PTT RIG 2 localhost:4532Pat Menu is set up as follows:

NOTE: You can set "2M Mode for Radio" to "
PKTFM". Both work, doesn't seem to make any difference.
To get it working,
1) Start Pat Menu
2) Click
Start Packet Modem in Pat Menu
3) Click
Action, then
Connect4) Under Transport, chose
AX.255) Click
Show RMS choose the 2m Band and select a nearby station from the drop-down list. The radio will QSY.
6) Click
Connect and watch the magic happen.
