Setup: Pi with old Buster, latest Build-a-Pi, with SignaLink and 857D.
Radio works great with FLRIG, FLDIGI, and ARDOP.
Finally got AX25 packet working. ?Able to connect to the radio, open Pat menu. ?When I attempt to connect to a nearby station, SignaLink keys for just a moment, but doesn't key the radio (but again, ARDOP is working fine in that regard - SignaLink keys radio to transmit).
Radio is set to correct frequency, Packet mode selected.
Any thoughts on why SignaLink keys (PTT goes red) for a split second, but no radio transmission, using AX25 packet?
|
Okay, I’ve now got the radio transmitting - but SignaLink only keys up for a little less than a second. ?I’ve verified with a different radio that data is being sent, but again it appears the SignaLink it stopping after about a second.

Just a thought.
My setup, not trying to use a signalink, only keys for a fraction of time for the call out. Is it sending a full call out? Have you tried a P2P connection to verify beyond the initial “ping”?

I haven’t tried a P2P yet - I’ll see if my DEC or EC can help me out with that. ?Attaching a video to show what I’m still encountering.

Have you added deirwolf?-p -t 0 in the Deirwolf config. I had that issue when I first started playing with Jason KM4ACK scripts.

Interesting thought. ?I run that command so I can do kiss attach, or I just run Direwolf from the HamRadio menu Jason set up. ?Also, I wouldn’t know where to put it in Direwolf config.
I’m going to look at the kiss parameters… maybe there are some delays that need tweaking?

And now I’m back to the radio not keying. ?Signalink will illuminate PTT to red, but it won’t actually key the radio (for AX25).

But strangely, FLDIGI will key both Signalink and 857 if I xmit or tune on it.

Grant, What "mode" is the radio in. I ran into this same situation yesterday with another ham. Windows box, signalink, 857D. He was trying ARDOP but the symptoms were the same. Had red PTT on signalink and no PTT on the radio. We swapped the 857 to "DIG" mode and everything began working. With packet, try "PKT' mode. Forgive me if we have already discussed this. --

Jason,
I tried it in Digital, Packet, and FM. ?Also changed config to reflect 2M=FM, and then =PKTFM to see if it made any difference, and again cycled through every mode. ?I thought I had a lead on it when it was keying up for just a second, but now that’s gone away too and I’m stuck.
Very respectfully,
Grant

Where was your delay on the Signalink set? I couldn't tell, make sure it is all the way counterclockwise.

It’s all the way counter-clockwise, and the tx/rx are about 12 o’clock. ?ARDOP is pushing the Signalink as well as the radio for HF.

A very generous and wise man was kind enough to send me an image of his Pi that works with my exact setup. ?Just waiting for USPS to stop failing so I can try it...
In the meantime, I was messing around today, and now if I have the radio *not* in Packet mode (Digital), then Direwolf will PTT both the SignaLink as well as the radio. ?I am monitoring the back of the SignaLink and the modem sounds good. ?My HT monitoring sounds like garbage though.
Getting closer...

Grant, Do I remember correctly that you were messing with some of the delay settings in your direwolf.conf file? Did you reset those to their default values? --

Jason,
I think that was someone else who was messing with the kiss param from the cmd line. ?Mine are at default values. ?
I did look through the whole file and found towards the bottom an iGate function that I commented out. ?Didn’t make a difference.
The noise is a little bit better this morning when I turned the FT-857D xmit level to 5W vs 50W. ?I’m wondering if there’s a delay setting I’m missing in the 857D? ?At this point, with the sound being so good in the SignaLink monitor, I’ve got to think I’ve got a radio configuration issue.
SOOOOO close!!!!
Very respectfully,
Grant

I know in one of your videos you had uncommented a PTT function for Direwolf, but as I recall that was because you were using the Sambrent, not SignaLink.

I uncommented the PTT line for use with the Sabrent sound card. Hopefully that SD card will arrive today :-) --
