64bit Bullseye and BAP install
Fresh install of the new Raspberry Pi 64bit OS
Updated Bullseye Then ran Build-a-Pi fresh Installed Everything After the install restart, I checked the Update tool Here is a list of everything that did not show either Installed or is_latest_version HAMLIB ¨C Needs Update |
I found a peculiar menu item, which was install updates. After I ran that, I went back to attempt to install from the list of the previous initial install
I was able to install/update everything except for FLDIGI. That will not install. Now I am going to reimage a fresh Bullseye 64bit and go through all this again. I hope to find the install updates before I attempt to install BAP to see if the previous results stay the same or are different. |
I have also installed and found that flrig and FLDigi did not install. I built from source and installed fine. guessing the BAP script is not installing the correct dependencies. I failed to write down the ones I installed, Sorry. I might try again soon. Also Pat does not install. And since you can't install from source guessing its because there is no arm64 version deb file.
everything else seem to work from what I have seen. will continue to play Troy KF7SEY |
Second run from scratch.
Basically same results as the first scratch install. The update widget that popped up did not show up until after the 1st run of BAP. I did a screenshot of the notification called 'updateNotificationIcon'. Attached is a screenshot of the list of updates as shown by the widget called 'List-of-updates-needed'. I ran the BAP update tool without updating, choosing the items that did not install or needed an update, and everything installed except for HAMLIB ¨C Needs Update ![]()

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Curt I don't remember is you said in the first of these emails, but what Rpi are you using this on? If it is one with less then 4GB you will have to extent the size of the swap space. I have seen FlDIGI fail to install at times even with a pi with 4GB, so have increased the swap to
one or two Gigs to allow it to install. You may want to try that. I have never had a problem? with a Pi with 8GB.

More install testing notes
When I did the initial install, I got an error message (screenshot below) that the Pat config did not have a grid square in it. I did enter my proper grid square when the install script asked for it just like I normally do. So it looks like the install script is not seeing the entry during the install. Another thing I noticed, when I set my timezone to central, I saw errors that the local was not in the database. When I chose Chicago on a subsequent install, I did not see the local error. |

Hi Marty, My test Pi is a model 4B with 8gigs.? It just rips through the install pretty quick. The 64bit Bullseye installs BAP quicker than the 32bit Bullseye. Curt |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOk, I have a Pi 8GB, but some how I over powered it and saw smoke come out, so I will putting in an order for another. I was going to set it up to
use as the home PC with two monitors to replace the old laptop I am currently using.
I have the adapter to use the 500GB internal drive of the laptop here now, and a monitor to mount the pi onto and another monitor to plug in. Looks like I may have to just put in an order and wait until they ship to me. The Rpi 4B 4GB that is the Ham PC is doing good. I have it loaded with the bullseye 32 and trying it out. However with the shack in the garage and no heater and temperatures running in low 30s I haven't gotten to try it much. It did install the three Fl-suite apps I use just fine and the few others too. Have a good day. Marty kd8bj

For Comparison, I put 32bit Bullseye on the card, updated, then did a full install of BAP
Everything installed on the first attempt, including FLDIGI So there is something a little different with the way things are done with 32bit and 64bit Bullseye One thing that I know is different is the update that shows up in 64bit after the first BAP install attempt. No matter what I did with 64 bit, I could not get it to show the update icon before the first BAP install attempt. Thinking out loud, I am wondering if BAP gets installation of 32bit items, and then the update wants to update to 64bit for those things. I might be wrong (as I am often wrong :D ). |
