Re: 73Linux on orangepi zero v3 4G with debian 12 (bookworm) xfce

Thank you to all.? It helps much.? I found yesterday that the OPiZ3, without an RTC, after 4 hours, was 50 minutes behind, so an RTC is a must for JS8Call, FT8, FT4, and similar precise timing WSJTX types of modes. An avg of 300mA drain is very nice.? I do think I'll wire in an extra USB port to the on board header, for the DigiRig, so I can use a direct keyboard/mouse as an option, instead of only the VNC tablet approach.? And bring a small SW rx for confirming time with WWV or CHU, when offgrid.

I'll check back here for any more thoughts someone may want to share about it. Great community.? :-)

Re: WSJT-X using BAP and FLRIG, Digirig and Yaesu 857D - when finishing transmit turns radio off and on again???

It was indeed a power issue. I disconnected a reconnected the multiple connectors between my battery and radio. I think the one that felt flaky was the multi-pin connector gong to the radio. When I got to it - it felt like there was some tension no it - perhaps pulled just enough to not have a good connection. I should have tried this sooner - but I broke my collarbone and sprained the opposite wrist in a bicycle accident last week - that made it uncomfortable to crawl under a table and try to pull apart and press together connecctors.

Thank you for all the great advice.

Re: 73 Linux will not install on Linux Mint #73linux

Edited

Yes I think so. Then I changed the language back to english and run 73 Linux again. I had to remove the folder 73Linux first. Everything looked good but I had seen it had not installed wsjtx although I had selected it.
I chose it again and it installed. But now my js8call disappeared somehow. I chose that again and finally have both running. I got a message from the update manager that there was an update for js8call and when I selected it it said something about adding wsjtx-data?? Then at the end I got some kind of error. couldn't be bottered at this point so clicked it away. Update mangager said up to date. I think all is well now but very strange..

Mint also has a true Debian-based version called LMDE, so you don¡¯t have to use the Ubuntu-based version.

Re: 73Linux on orangepi zero v3 4G with debian 12 (bookworm) xfce

I'm running Debian 12 Xfce on old, lightweight x64 netbooks for simultaneous flrig, fldigi, and JS8Call.? No 73Linux and little other software, but I'm pleased with performance.? The lightweight windows manager makes a big difference.? Performance under Linux Mint 20 and 21 was "okay" and improved with lighter windows managers, but I tired of all the bloat of the downstream Debian distros, not to mention tangles of dependencies that popped up at the worst times.

x11vnc has been the go-to VNC here for straight Debian installs.? Simple, installs from the GUI package manager (Synaptics), works with TightVNC viewer, which I prefer, on Windows machines, and is good enough for my simple LAN connection needs.? If jumping through firewalls and across untrusted networks was on the agenda, I'd do differently.

I haven't used Ubuntu for years, but Mint is a downstream derivative.? My experience is that it's not much of a leap back to straight Debian.? YMMV.? Again, I can't say what that means with 73Linux.? For a full-blown desktop, versus an appliance netbook, I might opt back for one of the dressed-up distros and its default windows manager.

Interesting, and unexpected.?

to be clear the git clone was successful and you ran 73.sh and it did stuff and the errors happen??

Hi

The language of the desktop must be English! I had the same problem with a German desktop?

Re: help setting up aprs digipeater

Never mind. I watched a different video and it hit me that the '-p' on direwolf is what displays the /dev/pts/1. It still does not show in the by-id dir but it's working.

Thanks for replying

Re: help setting up aprs digipeater

So that seems likely, but i am receiving packets in direwolf. So it seems it sees the sound card. Signallink is powered on and I have tried rebooting.?

Re: fldigi does not compile

So I went back to Hamlib 4.4, compilation / link worked, but then other stuff wouldn't work, like rigctld getting "undefined symbol" during start.
Went back to Hamlib 4.5, everything's working again.

fldigi does not compile

Hi,

I have been successfully running flrig and WSJT-X. Since I did not install fldigi from the beginning, I tried to install it today via PAP after the fact, but compilation fails:

I'm suspecting an incompatibility with the Hamlib version.

Thanks for any help.

73Linux on orangepi zero v3 4G with debian 12 (bookworm) xfce

Has anyone tried installing 73Linux on it yet?? The low power drain is nice.? My board is happy so far?doing the basics, though a bit choppy with full screen video.? I bought this cheap, with the big heat sink, for small package qrp pota type digital mode operating, and am now ready to try installing some 73Linux software.? I will VNC into it with a tablet so that the one USB port (without the USB hat) is available for the digirig interface.

So the next step is a VNC server.
Recommend any particular VNC server?

Any issues from experience that I should avoid?? Will the Debian distro be significantly different from ubuntu, in where 73Linux aims to put things in the file system?? The github page seems to suggest that ubuntu has been tested.? What about the xfce Debian 12?

Thanks in advance,

Re: WSJT-X using BAP and FLRIG, Digirig and Yaesu 857D - when finishing transmit turns radio off and on again???

Thank you for the suggestion. I am moving in that direction - suspect it is a power problem. But dropping to 20W on the radio, it still fails (though it takes more cycles).

I live full time in a travel trailer - so alway run off of 12V systems. I have been testing with two different Lithium Ion batteries. I now see significant voltage drop off (as viewed on the Yaesu 857 display) when It goes in to transmit. So will check all connectors and fuses. But I will also go off to 'storage' and grab my power supply (I usually don't use - because I want to be able to run off the grid). This should be more useful data points.

Re: How to start rigctld from Pat-menu

Glad that worked for you Bill. I stink at written documentation sometimes most of the time. Here's a basic run down of the Pat Menu Settings

Map: Chooses which grid map is opened. Pat Menu->Find Winlink Gateways->View Grid Map
ARDOP Command: Command you would enter at the terminal to start the ARDOP modem
ARDOP GUI: Command you would enter at terminal to start ARDOP GUI app
Direwolf Command: Command you wish to use to start direwolf. Can include any options (ie -L </path/to/filename> for logfile location)
Kiss Command: Command you would enter at terminal to start kissattach
AX25 Port: Port name defined in /etc/ax25/axports
Rig Control Command: Command used to start rig control. This one is a bit odd as you don't use the "d" at the end of rigctl.
HF Mode: Command used by rigctl to change mode on radio for digital. (ie USB-D)
2M Mode: Same as previous but for 2M/440 digital
Pat Port: Must match port defined in Pat config file
Custom Warning: Allows a custom message to be displayed the first time Pat Menu is run after a reboot. I use this to remind me which config file is loaded since I run multiple radios with my system. The Icom 705 needs different config than an HT so this gives me a visual reminder. After setting YES, it will display whatever is in the "Warning Message" box
AmRRON: Used by AmRRON operators. When set to yes, it will ignore the fact that other modems are running. This should typically be set to NO.
