I am embarrassed to say that in playing around with the bar at the top of the screen, I managed to delete the icon for the terminal and the main menu.? If I had either, I could get the missing one.?

Nigel, Is your user still pi? Are you auto logging in on boot? Current version 3.0.2 won't start Conky if you don't auto log in. This will be fixed in 3.0.3.
