Matt hope you find the fault. Rf entering usb port/s or psu can cause issues - irratic I had an ussue with a signalink that just freeze up. Rerouted the cables today and hope that sorted out. Only

You also need to verify that the baud rate is set in the rigctl statement and that it matches what you have set on the radio. I don't have my 817 in front of me but I believe it is called the CAT RATE
