You can create an installation disk in Windows to revert to Windows if you
want. Even better is buy a cheap 512GB SSD and dual boot them both.

You may be overthinking it.

1) Remove and store any SSD a laptop comes with, and install a new 1TB drive, or
2) Use Clonezilla ( or similar ) to create a backup? of the internal drive to an external
