Re: Horrible RFI from buck converter

Mark,

I haven't had RFI issues with the original ones I ordered. I have ordered another batch to test as well. I don't use those buck convertors often as I have moved my systems to this hat and have had no issues with RFI.

I got some of the Buck Converters with USB - recommended in the video, "Raspberry Pi Must Have Accessories for Ham Radio Digital Modes Operators."

The problem is, they produce so much Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) on VHF that all three of my radios ( FLDIGI, Packet, and Phone) are unusable.?
In an attempt to clean things up, I put ferrite beads in front of and behind the converter.? It helped but, nowhere near enough.

I really wanted these to work as I want to be completely independent of 120V and my powered USB port does not produce enough amperage to run two Pi/Signalink combos.?
The red power lights on both the Pis flicker and a Signalink will flutter on Tx.

Re: Horrible RFI from buck converter

If you don't want to wait for the slow boat from China, Here is a bigger selection, good prices and from a domestic supplier who I get all my batteries from for my Model Aircraft.

Dave, Now is a good time to grab the board off of Amazon if you want one. It is currently almost 30% off.

JS8Call scripts

Dave, G8PGO

Just going through the install on a new Pi4 and have got to the JS8Call scrips and none are working
Looks like m0iax has released V2 of all the utilities.
Are there any updated scripts for the Pi build.

Thanks
Dave, G8PGO

W9SAR

Anyone have W9SAR reach out to you asking for your direwolf file? ?It was a strange email because it said I've been a lot of help to him already, but I don't have any record of having any correspondence with him. ?Also strange because he sent from a yahoo that is not his email account on qrz.

Gotcha Steve, I'm turning 75 here come September and will have to keep that in mind. <Wink>? Glad that helped!

Mobilinkd TNC 2, baofeng and Pat

Hi all,

I have just gotten Build A Pi 2.2.1 up and running successfully.?

Raspi 4, Mobilinkd 2 (with factory cable), baofeng UV5r

This morning I was able to get Xastir working correctly with the Mobilinkd. Then, I rebooted the Pi and tried Pat.

I clicked Start Mobilinkd modem and that worked correctly. Upon trying to connect to two different 1200 baud packet stations, both ended poorly. One never timed out and the other was disconncted by the peer. A third attempt almost worked, but ended with an 'unexpected EOF'

I suspect I need to add a tx delay like is allowed in Xastir (I read about this in various locations and it worked for me).

Can someone help me with how to configure a tx delay working with Pat?

Thanks,

Ryan NN7M

Re: Issue with WSJT-X 2.2.2

To clarify things just a bit - I'm attempting to use FT8 only and have nothing else loaded/running on my 3A+ at this point besides WSJT-X . I realize that WSJT-X 2.2.2 is available/compiled for Rasbian Stretch, not Buster.? That may be the problem.? Has anyone gotten 2.2.2 to run decently on Buster without compiling from the source code?? Thanks again.

Issue with WSJT-X 2.2.2

Hi - I'm running WSJT-X.on a headless 3A+ with the latest version of Rasbian/Buster.? Getting 20+ decodes on the air down to -24 db when I'm just monitoring.? However, the decoding appears to run over into the Xmit cycle and I get few, if any, decodes when doing a test CQ.

When just monitoring on Fast decode, the decode light blinks very briefly about 12 seconds into the cycle, then comes on for real at 14 seconds and actual decodes appear within a second and continue for several seconds before the decode light goes out.? On Normal decode, the decode light comes on at 12 seconds and decodes begin to appear shortly afterward. The decode light stays on but blinks briefly at 14 seconds and usually stays on for a total of about 8 seconds.? Sometimes signals are decoded during the last 4-5 seconds, sometimes not.?

Things fall apart during a test CQ.? No decodes occur for Fast decode but some decodes may occur for Normal since decoding appear to begin earlier in the cycle.? Once the xmit cycle begins, no more decodes appear.??

Off the air, using the sample .wav file, Fast decoding begins within a second and 16 decodes are displayed within 3-4 seconds.? On Normal decode, 19 decodes are displayed within 5 seconds; then there is a pause of about 4 seconds and 3 more decodes are displayed.??

Does anyone have an idea what might be happening here? Should I reinstall WSJT-X or try an earlier version? Could the problem be some sort of audio processing delay?? I can provide more information on how I set up my system and what I'm seeing, if needed.? Would appreciate any recommendations that would help troubleshoot this.? Thanks!

Re: Is this something that could be implemented in BAP?

It looks like someone make a custom version for ham radios and pis too.

Give it a try and let us know how it works.?

Re: Is this something that could be implemented in BAP?

The long answer is yes, but I don't know of a good all in one software package for it. But it's something that could easily be done with vnc/ssh and mumble.?KM4ACK even has a video about it There are a few web based programs for hamlib and flrig put there too.

Pi Backup script

I know this has been talked about here before but I was just digging through some old jump drives and found one with a bunch of old backups on it and the script to make them. So I figured I'd share it. Just copy the script to a usb stick, then open a terminal and cd to where the USB drive is mounted. Then type ¡°sudo?./backuppi.sh¡±.

It makes a folder with the host name of the PI and then makes a sub folder with the date and time. For example "raspberrypi/10_09_2018_124020"?Then makes a tar backup of /boot and / folders and everything in them.

FYI, this is not a full SD card backup. You won't be able to restore the backup to a new SD card without some linux knowledge.?This is however a great way of taking small snapshots of a working system. Then you can easily recover files that have been damaged/deleted somehow.?

Re: Is this something that could be implemented in BAP?

Edited

Just an FYI - Are you aware of this post on the associated forum when asked about sharing an image of RigPi with a friend?

"The short answer is no.? RigPi contains licensed software, so sharing RigPi with a friend is a violation of copyright laws.

The web server part of RigPi is open source as specified in the RSS License in the RigPi HELP menu.?

Certain RigPi Tuner components were created with proprietary software under terms saying it can't be copied and provided to others without an appropriate license.? The proprietary code is for the graphics elements (Frequency, S-meter, Tuning Knob) on the Tuner window, and our goal for the future is to provide open source replacements.? See the About topic in RigPi HELP for more information, the lines of Tuner code specifically noted as proprietary, and the Perfect Widgets proprietary license included in RigPi Online Help>Technical>Panels.

This information is provided so anyone can use it to discourage others from copying and sharing the software.? MFJ has made the preloaded memory card available for purchase by anyone who wants to build their own RigPi systems.

(Howard is the Author/Owner)

Just my humble opinion, but you might want to run this idea past him?

Re: Horrible RFI from buck converter

I use these 12V powerpole-to-USB 3A and run a BAP Pi4 from them and never had problems. Also use one for a TV antenna preamp:
