Re: New Build-a-Pi V3 installation problem
OK, it did but I guess I wasn't patient enough to wait for it to show up.? I'm good for now.
So, repeating a bit from another thread, I assume if I re-pull from git I'll get the most current release.? Maybe it's about time to version your 'script' changes in a bit more detailed way, at least so we can be on the same page when discussing them. Do you post a log of what changes you make and date/timestamp them?? Is that info on github somewhere, other than that square chart on the main page (see image below)? Thank's a lot of contributions by one person, by the way.? Don't get burnt out. |
Re: HamClock Update
Thanks Joe and KM4ACK.? Joe's steps worked.? I tried that about a week ago and it didn't work.? Does now.
Thanks Again! Jason, FYI, while the hamclock appears updated now, at the end of the BAP update routine (after the mv hamclock ....., I see the final lines with: Reading package lists... Done

I suspect I'm not using your latest build.? Should I start from scratch again (as flrig does not seem installed either via the build I'm on)?? Something else?Is this expected? I suspect you are feeling this is growing into a monster -- welcome to development :-) Michael KD8GIJ |
Re: all Messed up?
OK,

I am back running with a basic BAP V3.02... Everything seems to work. I do find a "bug" noted at the end. The GPS works, OK. I am using [u-blox 8], see: The GPS was working with the USB3 SSD enabled (not boot device). See: and 120G disk (metal case): The GPS stopped when I started using an Anker 4 port USB3 extender: and a SanDisk microSD adapter: (I removed the USB3 SSD disk). I needed to re-boot to restore GPS display. I could not just remove the USB3 extender... "BUG" ... I have wifi turned off. I would not expect to see 10.10.10.10 as an IP address ?? I will now see if/when I can duplicate my "all messed up system". Possibilities are; I had tried 64 bit OS and I am not sure I wasn't using that microSD. (I keep the mSD's in anti-static bags that I label. I get interrupted...). It could be related to boot from SSD. Or overclocking. Both use "sudo apt full-upgrade and sudo rpi-update. The SSD code requires a sudo apt install rpi-eeprom and a sudo rpi-eeprom-update. I would expect the eeprom updates to be permanent and still be in effect with the current working system? I will see when/if it fails... 73, steve WB3LGC On 7/5/20 8:58 PM, km4ack wrote:

Re: GPS and Build-a-Pi V3
I am also having GPS issues, using the recommended GPS/GLONASS U-Blox7 GPS from Amazon. My GPS shows a flashing green light, I have nothing plugged into any USB 3 ports, and if I run cgps or xgps, I am not seeing any data at all. So I have been reading the comments (above), and the information Bill Dornbush shared was invaluable. I followed the link, and ended up trying the following... with the below results...
?
I ran?
dmesg
to verify that there was an active GPS USB device...?
?
I then ran
ls -la /dev/serial/by-id
and I got the following result:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Jul? 7 15:15 usb-u-blox_AG_-_www.u-blox.com_u-blox_7_-_GPS_GNSS_Receiver-if00 -> ../../ttyACM0
?
So, my device name is...
usb-u-blox_AG_-_www.u-blox.com_u-blox_7_-_GPS_GNSS_Receiver-if00
?
I then ran the following steps
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gpsd gpsd-clients libgps-dev
sudo systemctl enable gpsd
This last step supposedly manually configured gpsd to use my GPS device
?
Now, conky is showing my Gridsquare, and not saying no GPS. I run cgps, and there is valid data, and run xgps and I am seeing 8 locked satellites, as well as 4 more that are not locked (or yellow). This looks like the results I was hoping to get...
?
However, when I try to backup my SD card (using the SD Card Copier app), the app hangs after starting Copying partition 2 of 2, and just sits there... Clock on Conky is still running, and CPU, Frequency, and Temp are still changing... So I cancel SD card copier, and reboot. I close the app, unplug my USB SD card adaper, and now my Pi locks up, clock and all...
?
I am forced to do a power-down to reset the Pi, and powered back up to restart it.?
?
When my Pi restarts, conky is no longer working (and won't restart). So going to my backup...

Re: New Build-a-Pi V3 installation problem
Jason, I reflashed another card and have it working properly . While I was redoing it I realized that I think the problem happened at the point where you ask questions about Xastir. No problem this time, but the odd thing is the background behind Conky is the RP stock background shrunk down to just fit conky. I do have the new Build-a-Pi background on the rest of the desktop. I will try to attach a pic but have never done it , so I hope it works.

Need help upgrading WSJT-X 2.0.0 on my Pi 4B
Alan Jones
As a side note, can someone explain to me why WSJT-X is not updated in the Raspberry Pi Repository? Does it take a guru from the WSJT-X development team? In the mean time, is there a .deb file that will work with Raspberry Pi OS, or do I have to compile from source? Al, N8WQ |
