I'm also having issues, not with BAP but with Bullseye, it loads fine then does PI updates and crashes, tried several times with different sd cards. Anyone else having issues? ? Wayne VE1NR On Fri, Dec 24, 2021 at 4:06 PM Jim Brown <jwbrown@...> wrote:

Re: Building js8call and wsjtx under Raspberry Pi OS - Bullseye
Thanks for this post, updated to Bullseye today( probably should have waited.
BAP got JS8call just fine but used you instructions to get wsjtx on board. got a :(Package 'libhamlib4' is not installed, so not removed) message with the BAP attempt. 73 Mac N8MAC TX500, Digirig 1.6 TN07 GO2 ant |
I have a fresh install of Bullseye from the download link on the BAP Github page. I did updates after install.
I copied the script below into a terminal window and ran it as sudo. It goes as far as asking for my call letters and then quits. There is no BAP in the menu of the pi. I rebooted and still no BAP in the menu.? The command does create /home/pi/pi-build with contents but there are several error messages.? ./build-a-pi: line 144: /home/pi/pi-build/intro.txt: Permission denied
./build-a-pi: line 157: /home/pi/pi-build/intro.txt: No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove '/home/pi/pi-build/intro.txt': No such file or directory
./build-a-pi: line 211: /home/pi/pi-build/config: Permission denied
./build-a-pi: line 216: /home/pi/pi-build/base.txt: Permission denied
I have repeated this sequence several times with the same outcome. ? I have also gone into the /home/pi/pi-build directory and run ./build-a-pi ?to the same effect. That is the last part of the script below. It asks for call letters and then quits. Any suggestions? Jim

BAP Update-tool
Today I went to update my BAP from the update-tool tab and the tool (itself) needed an upgrade as well. I completed the update and now when I click on the tools I get ¡°invalid desktop entry file:¡¯/usr/local/share/applications/build-a-pi.desktop¡±
any ideas? I want to install more stuff for my new 705 (eg direwolf, xastir, etc)? |

Still been hearing that a clean install is the way to go. I did mine last week. I still need to reconfigure & set everything back up. On Thu, Dec 23, 2021 at 19:02 George - AK4NG <ribet@...> wrote: What do you recommend? |
Re: Bullseye FT857d raspberry pi 3b Pat winlink problem
vk4gra
Jason ,? Everything looks normal, the receive S Meter on the FT857 shows 9 on the bar graph, the receive audio out of the speaker sounds normal. the waterfall looks normal.? When I try to log into a HF server , The HF Servers sends 3 chalanges? before the server gives up. Its the initial log in sequence that its causing me problems. The cross display in the GUI fails to decode anything, displaying a value of zero. By the way , there is NO " low voltage warning" displayed on the local monitor. The CPU Mem, and the other measurements displayed by conky appear normal.
Next, I will try running the OS through a usb port and not on the sd card. This may speed the computation with the raspberry pi. VK4GRA |
Re: Phone to Pi GPS not working
The only thing I can think of is that maybe your home router has that port (11123) blocked? If you have the hotspot installed, you can enable it and connect your phone to the hotspot. Use the IP of 10.10.10.10 on the phone in GPS2IP.
Other dumb questions, did you enable GPS2IP on the app's home screen (top right corner)?? Is there any permission settings in the phone that could be blocking it? -- 73, de KM4ACK

Bullseye FT857d raspberry pi 3b Pat winlink problem
vk4gra
Hi Jason,
I was just testing the new bullseye build and BAP and found that most thing worked as before except Pat Winlink Ardop into an FT857d.? The problem is that I can raise an Ardop? HF station ok, but cannot decode the acknowledgement.? I've? been trying to research the problem ,and there seem to be a delay in switching from transmit to receive in the FT857.? When i change the sd card on the raspberry pi to "Buster" os, everything is ok. Quickly change the sd card back to Bullseye and the problem returns.? Any Ideas Graham? VK4GRA |
Re: Phone to Pi GPS not working
I double-checked the seetings listed and they match.? But I still don't see anythng with cgps.
Here is my /etc/default/gpsd file: # Devices gpsd should collect to at boot time.#Start gps deamon automatically at boot:START_DAEMON="true"?# They need to be read/writeable, either by user gpsd or the group dialout.#DEVICES="udp://*:11123"DEVICES="udp://*:11123"# Other options you want to pass to gpsdGPSD_OPTIONS="-n -b"ENABLED="yes"#GPS_BAUD=9600# Automatically hot add/remove USB GPS devices via gpsdctlUSBAUTO="false" |
Re: troubleshooting, where to start: 705 sends, receives packet with PAT, but no connection
A couple of things. Try using an HT or other radio to monitor the frequency when you are attempting a connection with the 705. This will let you verify that the 705 is indeed transmitting the packet. If it is, do you hear the gateway reply? If not, you may not be reaching the gateway or you may be using the wrong callsign for the gateway. If you do hear the gateway respond, the 705/Pi should be decoding but let's verify the other factors first.

troubleshooting, where to start: 705 sends, receives packet with PAT, but no connection
Hi fellow ops! I have sent ARDOP winlink successfully from my position (DM04PB 850'ASL). I have sent packet (per 705 waterfall) and receive packet (per 705 waterfall and speaker) but can't make a winlink connect over packet to gateways that should be line of site. RPi buster does other things besides PAT ARDOP, like JS8/FT8 with the 705. I'm using flrig for all of it.
What info do I need to give so some kinds souls can help me start to figure this out? Kim / KC6ARY p.s. I've theorized I'm on the right frequency but talking to the wrong stn, maybe? If there was some way to decode with the RPi the packets I'm receiving, I could see what stations are talking. Have I got something in the build-a-pi toolkit that will do that. I hear the traffic, but don't get recognized. ksc |
Re: pat winlink outbox not working with pat menu catalog scripts
Thank Jason,
What also worked was the following... Using several grep searches, I found quite a few references to the .wl2k path that I would need to edit.? I decided against creating my own future maintenance issues.? Recall, this was all a simple attempt to add winlink and the catalog scripts to my pi4B *desktop*.? So instead, I removed the previous installs, and ran BAP, but only installed, patmenu2, winlink, grid calculator, and a few other minor utilities, and ardop (just in case).? That install now has a properly functioning pat winlink and catalog scripts, working fine with telnet.? And the advantage (I hope) of the automated updates. I did see also that current BAP installs will no longer be supporting buster officially.? I'm not looking forward to updating all the pi's to bullseye, but I suppose its about that time.... Thank you again, and I have certainly made note of the git pull in case I go back to a latest pat winlink.? I hope this all helped others with partial installs that do not use the full BAP scripts.?? :-) ks K4GMV |
Re: Phone to Pi GPS not working
Make sure the Pi and the Phone are on the same wifi network. On the phone in GPS2IP, enable UDP push and enter the IP address of the Pi and the port of 11123. Now on the Pi, open the GPS update tool. Choose phone and click continue. In the IP address, enter "*" and the port is 11123. https://youtu.be/rkmQxvT8BpQ
