Re: New Buster Sound Card Debacle

Sounds like you might have a bad/damaged USB sound card. All of the drivers needed come stock in Buster.

Re: Auto Hotspot hijack

Don,

Are you connecting to the hotspot first? You need to go into the wireless settings on your phone/tablet, look for RpiHotSpot, and connect. Then open your VNC viewer and connect to 10.10.10.10.

The black screen with VNC has been around since Buster was released. I cover the fix in this video

Re: FLDIGI Missing

Yes. A poor internet connection could have resulted in things not being installed. Glad you got it working.

Re: FLDIGI Missing

Jason,? When I initially installed everything, I clicked the "install all and continue" option each time.? After the install was done, about 10 items were "not installed" when I re-ran the Build-a-Pi script.
I live in a rural area with poor internet.? Could my internet connection contribute to the missing items? It took me 6 tries to get the install to complete fully.
Thanks for all your hard work.

Re: Auto Hotspot hijack

The latest build with the mobile pi. Out in the car I could log into the 10.10.10.10, on my Android Pad. I could log in but saw black screen. I could not access radpi-config to change the screen. I left the hotspot enabled when I shutdown and went into my place.?
Now I can't log in via wifi. I put the lan cable on and I can log in via vnc using the router)pi up address.

I used putty to access 192?168.0.37 port 22 and talk to pi.
I tried 10.10.10.10 port 22 nothing

I just ran Run Hotspot Check
Status: Enabled
State: Active
IP add: 10.10.10.10
Forced Mode Active

I just did a reboot. The VNC timed out.

I was hoping when I booted up I could turn on ./mobi-connect and then either run Pat Winlink or APRS.

In the house no issue in the car there's issues. Back to the drawing board.

That is correct. I should have a different brand coming on Thursday and we will see what that does. If that doesn't work I'll throw up my hands and buy another Signalink because I'm anal enough to want each station to stand on its own merits without having to swap stuff around. I also have built a vox circuit to use with my older 2m rig so I really want the cheapo soundcard to work.

So if you plug in the USB sound card and run 'arecord -l', you get no results? (note: that is a lower case L at the end of the command)

Try disabling hotspot in hotspot tools and reboot. You should be able to use the GUI interface for wifi (by the clock on desktop) to add the hotel wifi.

Re: FLDIGI Missing

Try reinstalling by using the update feature of the script. You will find a build-a-pi item in your main menu under preferences.

FLDIGI Missing

Just finished installing RC4 about 5 minutes before RC5 posted.? I can't find the FLDIGI items.? Conky shows "FLRIG not active"? but the FLDIGI items are not on the menu.

Re: Auto Hotspot hijack

Jason,

Thanks for the advice. I got on the right track last night. Most everything went well. Still having a problem with the WiFi after running version 2. I have enabled and disable with reboots with no success. I am currently trying to use the WiFi at the hotel I am at. The network requires no password, so I just hit enter when that question is asked during setup. To rule out a problem with the hotel network, I tried using my phone as a hotspot. Still nothing.

Now this is where i think I found the problem, but don't know what to do with it. Per you post on YouTube to another individual. I ran sudo /usr/bin/autohotspotN . This is what I got. I will post everything, but the hostapd.service could not be found is probably my problem.

Valid SSID Detected, assesing WiFi status
Unit hostapd.service could not be found.
Connecting to the WiFi Network
Checking WiFi connection ok
Failed to connect to non-global ctrl_iframe: wlan0 error: No such file or directory
WiFi failed to connect, falling back to Hotspot.
Creating Hotspot
RENETLINK answers: File exists
Failed to start hostapd.service: Unit hostapd.service not found.

Any direction is much appreciated.

Re: Auto Hotspot hijack

Chris,

Run Build-a-Pi 2 on a fresh copy of Buster and you will have the option of installing the hotspot and hotspot tools during the build. Or jump on the mailing list as Build-a-Pi v3 beta should hit the newsletter in a week or so.

Re: Hotspot

The hotspot lets you take the pi to the field and connect an iPad or other computer to the pi to run the software. I use TightVNC and my iPad but there are other pieces of software that work. Ie it lets you use SSH and run the Pi headless.

Hotspot

Am I missing something?
I have a cable/router with wi-fi, etc so I simply ignored the hotspot option.
How about telling me what it does?
I can't believe I'm asking this silly question, since I do know what a non-ham hotspot does. :)

Thanks for the reply Don. This is a mistake in starting this Pi project off in the wrong place. This appears to have been simplified by Jason with Hotspot-Tools. I was following an older video and PDF. I am on the right track now. I could not seem to undo what I had already done. I did manage to learn how to delete files in terminal to try to undo this before going with Hotspot-Tools. Yes, I am that new to Linux, but going to get it though.

Should I work with installing Hotspot-Tools then move to the Pi script V2? I believe this might be built into V2.

It¡¯s all the way counter-clockwise, and the tx/rx are about 12 o¡¯clock. ?ARDOP is pushing the Signalink as well as the radio for HF.

Re: Auto Hotspot hijack

Did you go into Raspbian Preference and setup your country, location?etc. Your wifi won't be available to even access as a hotspot. Also, go to Interface and check VNC and SSH.?
