BAP and ARDOP

VK2AHB

I cannot get ARDOP to connect on the pi4.? I have flrig configured for the 7300 and run js8call successfully.
I go to Ham Radio/Pat Menu/Start ARDOP modem. When the Pat Mailbox opens, the console at the bottom shows:

020/09/03 15:08:40 Unable to get frequency from rig my-rig: dial tcp 127.0.0.1:4532: connect: connection refused.
2020/09/03 15:08:40 Starting HTTP service (0.0.0.0:8080)...
2020/09/03 15:09:53 WINMOR TNC initialization failed: dial tcp [::1]:8500: connect: connection refused

User pi is a member of the dialout group.

Standing by for answers.

Re: Linux Distro for Ham Radio

I am a full time Linux user and use Linux Mint. Other folks that I know use Ubuntu Mate. Either way, there are tons of Ham Radio software available. These are rock solid distributions as different varieties are called. Though I'm sure that there are others out there that have their own favorites.

Re: Linux Distro for Ham Radio

I love Linux Mint Mate 64 bit Operating System =)? ? I have used it for years?as my mainstay shack computer on several "Dust Bunny Special" hand me down virused up computers =)? ?It is an much friendlier version of Ubuntu Linux OS =)? ?Others may chime in on their favorite version of Linux as well =)

Linux Distro for Ham Radio

Sorry if this has been discussed or is just not relevant, but is there a recommended distro of Linux for amateur radio operations? I had a lady donate a computer to me with a shot hard drive. It has an i3 processor and 4 gigs of RAM. When I replace the hard drive, I want to make it my station computer.
I love the build a pi, but wanted to check with the group what y'all thought would be a prudent path to take with this computer.
Thanks!

Hotspot enabled when LAN network is on and working

I just installed the latest build using github and my wifi was working fine for that.
After reboot I can't get back on the local wifi.
I'm having trouble understand this.

Saw this today on reddit and thought many in the group might be interested. Lots of cool projects for all generations of the Pi on this GitHub page.
They need to add Build a Pi to their list.

Re: Screen Size for VNC

Yes Bryan I have tried WSJT-X and GRID TRACKER together.

That's my standard configuration.
It's so good I'm going to retire my older MAC-Mini and build another Pi4 as my home data computer.

On my portable system with the 10 inch VANKYO tablet screen, the combination is a bit too small to be useful.

I tend to 'Pinch' the image to just display my active WSJT-X application pane so I can 'push the buttons' accurately.

On my 27 inch screen its perfect :-). -- but I'm not taking THAT portable.

Re: Screen Size for VNC

I have not seen Grid Tracker or realised it's potential. I will have to try it

Thanks for mentioning this

Bruce,
Have you tried Gridtracker alongside WSJT-X? It is part of Build a Pi and works very well. It is also interesting to see graphically in real time where the signals are originating and will automatically log contacts with minimal configuration of WSJT-X.

Re: None of my Pi's are showing on network _ HELP

SOLVED - one of my replies discusses the problem - not a DHCP issue at all.

Re: None of my Pi's are showing on network _ HELP

P.P.S. I had some OTHER issue(s) with the hotspot stuff, AND I wanted more control, so I "punted". Check here for more info:

Re: None of my Pi's are showing on network _ HELP

Er...um....I *meant* to say that this is how the hotspot software is meant to work. (AND ....MMDVM as well, but that is another story...for another group...hi hi !!)

Sorry about that !!!!

Re: None of my Pi's are showing on network _ HELP

What is strange is that he listed that (hooking the RPi to the router using CAT5) as his step #7. That is why I, and I believe Bob, assumed a DHCP problem.
I read right past that or I would have assumed the same.

Not exactly a step by step video but should get you pointed in the right direction.

Re: None of my Pi's are showing on network _ HELP

P.S.... And NO this is NOT a "problem" in the hotspot software.
Actually this is the way the mmdvm software is supposed to work !!

Um,...since this MAY/CAN happen; I assign dhcp addresses in my
router(s) that have NO lease-timeouts to various devices. <- This
makes life MUCH easier.

I had that problem, too. I tried a new router which didn't solve the problem. I have tried starting over and then it works - for a while. Disabling the hotspot did solve the problem. Not installing it also solves the problem. Although I have not been able to definitively demonstrate it, I think there is some issue with the hotspot software.

USBAUTO="true"
We have to be careful with this setting. With some radios (IC7300 in particular) setting this to true can cause an issue where the internal sound card of the radio is not accessible. This is why it is set to "false" by default in build a pi. The downside to setting to false is that the GPS must be plugged into the pi before we boot or it will not be recognized.
