Re: Winlink on Raspberry Pi with LinBPQ - error 98

Jeremy,
?
I prefer to change the port for Pat Winlink. This can be done in the pat config file. Once you change the port in the pat config file, be certain to update your Pat Menu config to match what you set in the pat config file. Updating the port in Pat Menu DOES NOT change the pat config file.
?
Changing the direwolf.conf file does not change any other setting outside of that one file.?
?
If you are having issues with BPQ, I would refer you to their forum as they deal with config issues daily. I know just enough about BPQ to be dangerous :-)

Re: Winlink on Raspberry Pi with LinBPQ - error 98

It's been a long time since I played with BPQ. What have you set up in BPQ.CFG file pointing to your winlink info. There is an area where you would use a hardware tnc. I used it before sound cards were used. Can you post your bpq.cfg minus passwords etc? I still have my bpq.cfg but it would be of no help to you. We maybe able to clean info to point you in the right direction. The best place I got my help was the BPQ group. John Wiseman and others certainly helped me.?

So you think I should spring for the digirig mobile?

Re: Help with going forward

Brian,

All I can say is... (in the voice of Napoleon Dynamite..)? ?LUCKY!!! Glad its working for you though.

This is what Denis of Digirig?sent me about the Digirig?lite issue:

=======

Yes, there were reports of Digirig Lite being sensitive to the power quality when using with Raspberry Pi:

Originalky i bought the digirig lite for a portable packet station. After a couple of emails with the owner, I exchanged it for a digirig mobile. Which works fine with the pi.

Thank you for your reply. We have almost zero APRS footprint in my area but I live in a large state forest that I like to explore in my Jeep. I am wanting something at the house to track my movements. Is the digirig lite all I need hardware wise for this or should I invest in the digirig mobile or signalink?? Thanks for the help. Larry

Re: Help with going forward

There are a couple of options. If you just want a digipeater, you can use direwolf as a standalone app which will handle the digipeating. It can also be configured as an igate.
?
If you want a desktop application that you can interact with, take a look at YAAC. It will give you a map where you can see the stations as well as a way to send messages and add objects. It will also require direwolf running in the background for RF but there's a bit less to configure in direwolf for this setup.
?
Check out my APRS playlist on YT and I think you will get a better understanding of what's involved in a digipeater setup. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1QTYT4Qo9cav3oWl3BBZ8kopezkfNKYm

Help with going forward

Good evening, I am wanting to build a digipeater using an FT2980R.? I have 73Linux installed on a designated PC, I have the radio and antenna all set up.? I have a digirig lite with appropriate cable for the radio.? And I have about 120 cash to buy anything else I would need.? ?Could someone steer me in the right direction because I feel like I am striking out.? Thanks in advance! -Larry K0HIO

Re: In 73 Linux, how do I configure PTT to be by RTS of COM port?

Before I read these replies, I just started commenting and uncommenting out lines in my DireWolf config, starting with line 201.
?
When I uncommented line 203, it worked! Thank you, Brian, Mike, and Jason. I have been wanting to get this portable setup running for a long time. I have a Windows desktop, connected to a Kantronics PC3 Plus, running Winlink Express, but utilizing an old laptop with 73 Linux, and this DigiRig is a game-changer for me.
?
Thanks again for your help and for creating 73 Linux
?
Don

Re: In 73 Linux, how do I configure PTT to be by RTS of COM port?

Another tip, you need to verify that the digirig got connected to /dev/ttyUSB0. You can figure that out by running:
ls -l /dev/serial/by-id
?
If it is something other than /dev/ttyUSB0, you will need to make sure it matches in direwolf. If it is indeed /dev/ttyUSB0, Mike is 100% correct. It will be:
PTT /dev/ttyUSB0 RTS

Re: In 73 Linux, how do I configure PTT to be by RTS of COM port?

In your direwolf.conf file look for something like this:

PTT /dev/ttyUSB0

It might have a # in front of it. That makes it a Comment. If it's there, remove the #

The whole command should look like this:

PTT /dev/ttyUSB0 RTS

Also any other line with PTT should have a # to comment it out.

Finally, this line is case sensitive.

Hope this helps

Re: In 73 Linux, how do I configure PTT to be by RTS of COM port?

You're looking at the page that's telling you what to do. You can uncomment either 201 or 203 and make sure the port for RTS PTT and set its the right port for wherever your card is plugged in.

Re: In 73 Linux, how do I configure PTT to be by RTS of COM port?

Yes, it's in the direwolf config file. Remove the # and enable it.

9.2.8.1 PTT with serial port RTS or DTR
To use a serial port (either built-in or a USB to RS232 adapter cable), use an option of this form:
PTT device-name [-]rts-or-dtr [ [-]rts-or-dtr ] For Windows the device name would be COM1, COM2, etc.
For Linux, the device name would probably be something like /dev/ttyS0 or /dev/ttyUSB0.
You can also use the Windows format. COM1 is converted to /dev/ttyS0, COM1 is converted to /dev/ttyS1, and so on.

I have NO idea where to put that information. Unlike Windows, on Linux is it in the DireWolf config file?

Re: Tuning not kicking on when tx

As I understand it, the digirig has specific internal jumper settings and uses a specific cable of the 897. It may not be your computer that is the culprit.?
