Re: Uuuggghhh help please¡.
I personally wouldn't mess around with Hamlib too much and just set it to use rigid #4 (FLrig) and use FLRig for rig control. It's so much better, more capable, and easier to use when you have multiple radios. On Fri, Jan 10, 2025, 18:18 Kevin via <kb3dmy=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Trouble installing VARA on RPi4
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWell, slowly I¡¯m learning some of this Linux stuff ! HI I have a couple SD cards that I go back and forth with. What I decided to do was manually install Box86 and Wine thanks to a great how-to article -? So, I installed VARA and VARA FM, but neither would run - missing required DLL - a MS Visual Basic. So, I guess this is where Winetricks comes in to save the day. Lots of studying to do - but it is kinda fun and interesting. I could never get the Pi Apps install routine for VARA to work - it would just stall out in the middle of things. If anyone can point me in the right direction on installing and running Winetricks, I would appreciate it. I may try that Pi Apps script again but on Ethernet instead of WiFi. Something to try ¡ 73, Jamie WB4YDL On Jan 6, 2025, at 9:51?PM, James C. Hall, MD <heartdoc@...> wrote:

Trouble installing VARA on RPi4
Is there a time limit to install something on a RPi or something ? I¡¯ve been trying to install VARA (using the Pi-Apps install) and I¡¯ve noticed that it will go so far in the installation and just stop - I can wait an hour and it never moves. The CPU slider on Conky will go down to idle at 6-7%. I can restart the process and it may get a little farther (since some things are now installed), but it again stalls mid-stream. This is a new Bullseye install with minimal 73Linux items selected.
I installed VARA previously without issue a couple years ago and didn¡¯t have any issues thanks to Jason¡¯s tutorial. WINE stalls about when installing fonts. Any suggestions to try ? 73, Jamie WB4YDL |

Re: New install BT Mobilinkd TNC3
I did a bit more digging into this. I cannot reproduce the "permission denied" when running the sudo rfcomm command. I tried with both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Pi OS and it worked with both while using the Mobilinkd TNC 3. As a note, the system I was working with only had Pat, Pat Menu, and ax25 installed. It's possible that something else installed is causing the issue.
?
I was able to reproduce the issue with Pat Menu going into the endless loop when attempting to connect to the Mobilinkd over Bluetooth. The bluetoothctl command has changed in bookworm. The x86 version of Pat Menu has the same issue. The bug has and will be fixed in a future release.

Re: New install BT Mobilinkd TNC3
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWell, I actually got Jason involved on this and it stumped him. He tells me that Bookworm isn¡¯t ¡°ready for prime time¡±. After many hours messin¡¯ around with it and getting nowhere fast, I decided to ditch it and go back to Bullseye 32-bit. After a full install of 73Linux, I got the RTC going easily and tried the Mobilinkd with BT. Absolutely no issues at all. It just worked. In 5 minutes I had everything going and made connection to my gateway.? And, oh yes, Conky works fine and looks great ! Take my advice and stick with Bullseye and a RPi4. You guys with a Pi5, you have my condolences . ?? 73, Jamie WB4YDL On Jan 3, 2025, at 6:48?PM, James C. Hall, MD <heartdoc@...> wrote:

Re: New install BT Mobilinkd TNC3
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWell, I¡¯m back at it after the holidays. I did manage to get the RTC running correctly thanks to Jason¡¯s great help and article. Getting the Mobilinkd TNC3 to work is a different matter and I just don¡¯t know what I¡¯m doing. Following Jason¡¯s instructions from 2 years ago in a YT video explicitly, I could only get so far. The rfcomm connect command (being sure to add 6 for its channel) yielded a Permission Denied response. However, if I run rfcomm bind 0 [MAC address ] 6, it binds normally. Then I can actually run kissattach /dev/rfcomm0 wl2k and get a successful AX.25 port connect. But that¡¯s as far as I can get. Running PAT in a browser won¡¯t work. This is a new install of Bookworm (w/Wayland) on RPi4.? L¡¯il help please ¡ 73, Jamie WB4YDL On Dec 17, 2024, at 10:52?AM, James C. Hall, MD <heartdoc@...> wrote:

73Linux problem with conky and pi-aprs
Hello!? Installed 73Linux on fresh baked pi 4B running "bookworm."? Some minor issues:
?
Grid square not displayed on pat menu even though correctly entered in config file.
?
This causes an error-msg /warning I want to download winlink locations. Says distance and azimuth cannot be calculated.
?
The pat app does however start without any error-msges.
?
pi-ARRS cannot start modem(s). I see in the terminal window that there is a problem with X11 window. ignore the error-msg about direwolf.config. I till must edit it:
?
(yad:24359): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 19:34:36.053: gdk_x11_window_get_xid: assertion 'GDK_IS_X11_WINDOW (window)' failed Dire Wolf version 1.7 Includes optional support for: ?gpsd hamlib cm108-ptt dns-sd ERROR - Could not open config file /home/pi/direwolf.conf Try using -c command line option for alternate location. ?
CONKY installs but gives me only a black screen that covers up the app bar at the top of screen.? During the installation? I noticed a similar error-msg concerning the GDK IS 11 window failing.? Could these problems be related?
?
WSJTX I noticed the installed version will expire on 15 JAN 2025.?? Can I update over the 73Linux app?
?
Not a 73Linux issue, but:? Every version of RPi OS has its annoying problems, it seems. For me it"s the VNC server.? RPiOS "bookworm" uses WAYVNC server. Never heard of it.? Most of my VNC clients haven't heard of it either, because they cannot connect to the VNC server on my RPi4b.? Anyone else have this issue?? I can't get any of the screenshot apps to work either.? Could this be related to the X11 problem?
?
I stll have to connect my Pi to my radio in order to complete my evaluation.? More later.
?
Addendum: Pi-Apps does not install VARA FM. I used an old YT video from KM4AC about installing VARA on Linux and successfully installed both VARA HF and VARA FM on my Lenovo Laptop running Ubuntu Linux.? I hope his instructions are still up to date.? I will try installing VARA FM on my RPi using these instructions.Wish me luck!

Re: WSJT-X Frequency readout jumps
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWhat I found, I recently did the 73 Linux update. That is when the problem started. After attaching a dummy load to troubleshoot, I noticed that the output of my radio reset to high (100%). I normally run at 60% and sometimes 80%. Once I reset to 60% the problem disappeared. The only thing I could figure is that either somewhere in the 73 Linux update a cat-v signal was sent to output high power or it was a fluke thing on one of the power ups that reset the power output. All is working well now. Thank for the input Paul AC7UT

Re: WSJT-X Frequency readout jumps
RFI or common mode current. Confirm by using a dummy load. If problem disappears, it's confirmed and should be addressed. On Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 14:36 Paul via <c7ranch=[email protected]> wrote:

WSJT-X Frequency readout jumps
When working FT8, the frequency readout in WSJT-X will jump all over the place while transmitting. The radio is unaffected and remains on frequency and FLDigi is usually unaffected. However on occasion it will close abruptly. Radio - Icom IC-706MKIIG, Antenna 80M EFHW, Computer PI-4. Any ideas?

Re: Portable Digipeater GPS Issue
One thing to remember?is that some items with the GPS won't start working until your GPS can contact satellites. Try moving the system to someplace that has a clear view of the sky.? Good luck. Re: Portable Digipeater GPS Issue
Finally got the GPS working, since I'm not able to copy and paste i found some typo's and once they were corrected GPS began working properly.
?
I have some errors in direwolf but I won't to try and figure those out myself.
?
One thing i have learned in Ham Radio is most of the time if you are having trouble, it's the operator's fault. In my case anyway.
?
Thanks to all for comments.
