Re: 73Linux New Install - lots of Gdk-CRITICAL messages - and after install no 73Linux background no WSJT-X in menu
GDK-Critical errors can be ignored. These are produced by YAD.
?
Are you running Wayland or x-11 desktop. Seems most users have better luck with x-11.
?
Conky does have issues with Wayland but some have found workaround. Search the forum for what others have done.

73Linux New Install - lots of Gdk-CRITICAL messages - and after install no 73Linux background no WSJT-X in menu
I am running build-a-pi on another RPi - so maybe my expectations are messed up.
?
On a RPi 4 - running latest 32bit OS
?
After installing OS on SD card - and doing apt update and apt upgrade, I download and ran 73Linux.?
?
Lots of?
Gdk-CRITICAL errors.? ?
After reboot - there is a wide (maybe 1/4 screen) black vertical stripe. (is that where CONKY should be?() There is no 73Linux background image.
?
And i selected the Raspberry symbol (top left) to see the menu items. I had installed perhaps 15 items - many are missing. In particular WSJT-X is not on the Ham menu.?
?
FLRIG does work- and talks to my radio.
?
Pat menu works (up to a point) - fired up Packet modem and get an error - but I bet I have more configuring to do to get that to work.? |
Re: 73Linux on orangepi zero v3 4G with debian 12 (bookworm) xfce
I just got the orangepi zero 2 W 4GB.
Installed some of 73Linux. I have both VARA hf/fm installed. vfm is connected to a digirig and winlink works fine. xastir also works. I am using gpsd forwarder from F-Droid to send gps to the opi gpsd for gps.

I am about to set up a new Raspberry Pi - which OS is best for 73Linux
I have been using Build-A-Pi on a couple of Raspberry Pi's, and am setting up a new Pi 4 that will travel with my KX3. I will run Pat and WSJT-X primarily on this Pi. Hoping to get VARA running on this Pi.
?
32 or 64? Bookworm?
?
Now I have to remember how to image a new headless Pi - get it on the network, etc.? |
Re: Evolve III gps x6100
Probably because it was made for an older version of Android. It's on GitHub and F-Droid and it does work on current Android for me. On Thu, Aug 29, 2024, 20:16 Bill KM6TAU via <baanderson77=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Evolve III gps x6100
Jason did a video on it a few years ago so it's a nut outdated but the GPS app is on both 73 Linux and BAP. Select phone GPS on that app on the computer and the Android app is called GPSD Forwarder. On Thu, Aug 29, 2024, 18:42 Bill KM6TAU via <baanderson77=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Evolve III gps x6100
Brian what is a good way to do that I have looked for apps for Android and search online but can't find anything that works with my phone???
?
Yes I think that would be good but only if I can do it without internet. I have been making a hotspot with the PC and that works great until I have no internet |
Re: Evolve III gps x6100
Just a suggestion, ditch the GPS and stream GPS data from your phone with GPSD. It's so much easier and no need to tie up a USB port. On Thu, Aug 29, 2024, 13:31 Bill KM6TAU via <baanderson77=[email protected]> wrote:

Evolve III gps x6100
So I'm have problems getting my evolve III to play nice with the gps. The problem is the 6100 uses 2 ports acm0 and acm1 the gps also uses acm0 and locks up the computer. I have tried all kinds of things. The gps works fine to set time. But as soon as I plug in the radio it locks up because there is a conflict with those ports. I have the gpsd set by id but it doesn't seem to matter.?
I use Debian 12 on the evolve it is one of the newer ones without the SIM card slot.?
?
Even starting the radio and then the gps does not work.
?
Any ideas would be good my next option is build a pi time server with the gps. But if I don't have to do that it would be nice.
?
Thank you
Bill

Re: General Linux question. Linux Mint 22

Re: General Linux question. Linux Mint 22
This is just a guess, but (assuming winetricks is installed) have you tried running `winetricks all-fonts`? If that doesn¡¯t work, you might also try running `wine winecfg` and playing with the settings under the ¡°Graphics¡± tab. General Linux question. Linux Mint 22
I¡¯m running Virtual Radar Server a long with Dump1090 on my new install of Linux Mint 22. Both programs work fine but the on the GUI for virtual radar server none of the text on the UI buttons display the text that is supposed to be on them. The program worked fine on my previous install of LM 21.3 and it works fine on
my Pi. It¡¯s running under mono and the pi has the same version of mono installed so it most likely isn¡¯t a mono issue. It must be something specifically with LM22 I¡¯m thinking that the font that is required isn¡¯t available on mint 22 but was available on mint 21.3. I¡¯m kinda stumped on how to get it to work, any insight would be appreciated |
Recommendation Linux bistro for HP Stream 7 tablet
Hi?
?
I have an HP Stream 7 tablet computer that I would like to put Linux onto. ?Any recommendations for Linux distro that would produce a functional tablet OS?
?
Several years ago, I did manage to put an Ubuntu version on it, but it did not really work well. ?For example, the screen would not change orientation when the tablet was rotated (likely missing some drivers). ?Currently, I have Windows 10 installed, but it's not really useful as it's slow and really doesn't function well. ?I was cleaning out the shack and found it again and was thinking maybe now there might be a version of linux that might work. ?Any suggestions would be appreciated. ?Thank you.
