Re: Build a Pi 3.0.3 Released
As I am new to Build a Pi.
Can I copy this to my Pi, or do I need a new sd card to put it on? I hace a Pi 3b+ running Conky running but my? ? rtc? will not show? the 68 on setup. the rtc is pluged into pins 2 thru 10.? is this correct?it does show the same time as the system time is. Thanks for all you do. Ronnie? ?N5ZLU |
Re: Help - Hot Spot not working
I reinstalled BAP from scratch on a new copy of Raspberry Pi OS, and it worked.? I suspect that something either changed or was not installed properly to begin with.? My suggestion is that if you have difficulties, reinstall and see if that resolves it.? You must use a new copy of Raspberry Pi OS and start over, so take good notes of what you did.

I¡¯m using the HiFiBerry case and there¡¯s room for the DockerPi power board and the RTC clock on the GPIO. I think it¡¯s a pretty nice case for the price. 73 de AG7TX David Thompson, AG7TX Jack of All Trades Master of None dbthompson@... On Aug 18, 2020, at 08:46, JaySheepdog <gerald@...> wrote: |
Re: Weird GPS problems
Morning Jason,
Thanks for the note. I had watched your video and that is what inspired the testing. I already had the GPS receiver in-house and was wondering whether use of a USB3 port with a USB2 device would trigger the problem. I learned two things: 1) A USB2 device plugged (card reader/writer) into the USB3 port and used does not cause the GPS to lose lock. 2) A USB3 device plugged into the port does not cause the GPS to lose lock. Use of the USB3 device will trigger the the problem and it does not resolve until the USB3 device is unplugged from the port. Then the GPS will regain lock after a few minutes (waiting for the daemon to reset the receiver). I need to replicate the experiment a couple of times to confirm it is repeatable. I probably won¡¯t get to that until either tomorrow. Like you, my goal is to minimize cords and cord length in the field. That I can use a USB2 card reader in the USB3 port without losing the GPS lock is workable in the field. The next test will be to connect my radio to the Pi and see what happens to the system. I¡¯m still looking at logging software. Many thanks for the hard work. 73 de AG7TX David Thompson, AG7TX Jack of All Trades Master of None dbthompson@... |
FT-891 - no RX
Jason,
I was recently able to purchase three IC-718 rigs for a reasonable price. That gives me four sitting as back up. I have the cables so one can be hooked to the Build A Pi (and it works). I am willing to loan one to you in you need a rig in the shack for further development. Ed, KD9FRQ "Freq" Radio |
Build a Pi 3.0.3 Released
The stable version (3.0.3) of build a pi is out. Provided you are running 3.0.2, upgrading should be as easy as running build a pi from the main menu. This version add compatibility for more GPS units and Gpredict satellite tracking software along with other minor fixes/tweaks.

Re: Weird GPS problems
It is the USB 3 port that is giving you the issue. I discovered this during this past field day. I have tested with multiple USB 3 thumb drives/adapters and all have produced the same results. I go over it in this video.
Either refrain from using USB 3 drives/adapters or look at this GPS unit It is a better receiver than the uBlox and has the additional cord length so the GPS can be moved away from the pi. My only fear with this GPS is that it may introduce RFI into the pi due to the longer cord. This may not happen every time but could happen given the right circumstances. I always hesitate to add long cords to the pi. I have been bitten in the past. -- 73, de KM4ACK

Re: DRA 36 Sound card
Hi Don, I just set up my home Winlink station to use UZ7HO Soundmodem with a SignaLink running Winlink Express; and also my RMS Packet Gateway with UZ7HO Soundmodem and the RMS Packet software.? They've both been working for a couple weeks now.? I'm running Windows 10 Pro, and just survived a massive update. Re: GPS
I understand Mark,
My current objective is to determine whether I can operate this unit in the field with a short cable (of course). I'd prefer to mount the GPS receiver to the top of the Pi so keep everything close and tidy. My rig already has enough cables without adding to the cable mess. But for a home station with a Pi running as the station computer, right on. Best... |
