See the Direwolf User Guide section?9.2.8.5 "PTT with C-Media CM108/CM119 GPIO"

It describes how to use a C-Media GPIO pin to control PTT.? No wiring is needed other than the USB connector.? I use this with my DRA-30 card and my Raspberry Pi and it works great.

You must install the optional?libudev-dev then recompile Direwolf.? There are instructions in the User Guide on how to do this.
You change the direwolf.conf file to include?

David,

I also have been running gos on -n for a few days and I have been changing different things plugged into the USB ports. Only thing I found that effected the gps was a Bluetooth dongle for a wireless keyboard that I have.?

Re: Weird GPS problems

The Pi4 has been running since my last post and been stable. The GPS will occasionally drop its lock when the satellite constellation does not favor its location, but will pick up the lock again once the signals from four or five birds are strong enough.

This morning I decided it was time to backup the SD card in the Pi4. So I mounted the USB adapter for another micro-SD to one of the USB3 ports and fired up Jason's utility to make the copy.

As soon as the copy began, the GPS lost lock. I waited for the copy to finish and then watched gpsmon to determine if the UBlox would reestablish lock once the copy process completed. After about 15 minutes I decided it was not going to happen.

I pulled the adapter and waited. After a few minutes, the GPS lock was reestablished and time and coordinates resumed downloading.

That's interesting.

I have another USB dongle that will accommodate a micro-SD card, the unit on the bottom. I believe this unit is USB2. I put a card in this unit, plugged it into the same port as the previous attempt, and started Jason's utility.

The copy commenced and completed without interrupting the GPS lock. Once the copy process completed, I left the unit in the USB3 port and watched for awhile. There was no change in the GPS lock.

That leads me to think that the problem is either this particular USB3 card adapter or the USB3 operation for copying the card is causing interference with the UBlox GPS receiver.

I don't have another USB3 card adapter in my inventory, so I do not have another unit to test. I don't mind buying another to continue testing, but would need a recommendation so I just don't buy *something*.

So, at this point I'm open to suggestions for an alternative USB3 card adapter to test.

As I write this, the UBlox is dropping out and then regaining signal. The SNR for some of the satellites is probably the issue. I have not yet looked at the constellation. The good news is that the daemon will reinitialize the GPS receiver and regain the time and location lock.

Let me know if this is what you were looking for, please. What monitor/ screen are you using on the Zero?

Nohup seems to have worked! ?Thanks, I¡¯ll continue to run it on the zero until it refuses too haha

William MacLachlainn

If you are starting the process via something like './ESPHamClock-screensize' then it will die with your login process, i.e. when you sign out of ssh.? You have three options if that is the case: 1) start it with `nohup`, 2) start it in a `screen` or `tmux` session, or 3) write a little startup script to start it as a service.? All this assumes that it doesn't have a flag, e.g. -D to daemonize itself when run.

Let me know if you have any questions about those.

Hi Jesse,

If you start a program in the context of the ssl-session and you close the ssl-session it will also close every started program. Look for starting the program in the backround.

Heard back from the developer and he doesn't release old version, so looks like I have an excuse to buy another pi...just seems like a waste to dedicate a 4 to ham clock lol

Did you try emailing the developer? He might hang onto older versions.

Re: Help - Hot Spot not working

Hey all;

......and here's my "punt":

Went here;

and downloaded this;

which I placed "top level" of the /home/pi hierarchy.

Next, I issued the following commands;
tar xf AutoHotspot-Setup.tar.gz
cd Autohotspot/
grep -Rl 192.168.50 | xargs sed -i 's:192.168.50:10.10.10:g'
cd config
mv Checklist.md5 Che
cklist.md5.org
md5sum * > Checklist.md5
cd

And the last step;
nano?.bash_aliases
adding this text;
alias hs='sudo Autohotspot/autohotspot-setup.sh'
and closing nano the usual way to save the file and the contents.

Finally;
sudo reboot

You can then use hs to invoke this and it is "automagical"

Now there are BUNCH of very good reasons I went this route. And if anyone is interested I can go into some depth. In the interest of getting on with things here's the upshot;
?- Prevents needing to remember to "sudo" the command as sudo is built in "automagically" !! (Without sudo I can attest to files messed up and in the wrong state and/or place...)
?- When in ANY hotspot mode the wifi is on the SAME domain/sub-net -> 10.10.10.xxx !!
?- I can always open a terminal "window" OR ssh in and change the hotspot settings. (More choices !!....Gotta love that.)
?- I now have a choice as to what I want to do. (Although menu numbers 3 and 4 seem like where things like to be for me. Hi Hi !!)
?- Seems to live with vnc o.k. (i.e. The BAP method and the gui HOTSPOT app were a problem for me. My complaint was/is authentication issues. Others are having other frustrations which this process might help fix.)

SOME CAVEATS;
- Do NOT use ssh and vnc sessions at the same time when invoking "hs" ! (There are some odd things about permissions, caching, and "whoami" that can be a huge problem.)
?- BE SURE TO make a backup of configs, i.e. /etc and /home/pi as you MAY need them. (Do this BEFORE you need them.)
?- BE SURE TO use menu item 8 to close out of autohotspot EACH time you use it and ESPECIALLY before rebooting.

So far , it's working like a champ here.

Re: DRA 36 Sound card Update

I got the DRA Sound Card to work. On UZ7HO there a PTT.DLL created. for PTT. I have no idea if Deirwolf will run the CM119 audio chip. The DRA is a lot smaller than the Signalink. I may have to post on the Deirwolf Group unless some one on here can give me pointers.

Receiving is, it's getting it to PTT.

Hamclock 2.510 vs 2.51

So I had been running? hamclock as a standalone on a Raspberry Pi Zero with no issues.? I just left it running 24/7 and only turned off the monitor when I wasn't in the shack.? Had a power? outage last night and when I tried to start it up today it seemed to be corrupt and not work correctly so I went ahead and formatted the SD card, got it setup again and went to the clearsky page, and noticed that the latest version is 2.51 (there is a note saying it doesn't work well with a Pi Zero but I didn't see that at first)? I was using PUTTY to set it all up and it ran fine as long as I was connected SSH via putty, but as soon as I close PUTTY the display just freezes.? Trying to start it directly from the PI just results in a black screen with the mouse cursor in the upper left corner...so I guess the site is correct that it wont work on the Zero...so, does anybody have the .zip of an older version? Doesn't seem to be anyway to get it from the clearsky site...

DRA 36 Sound card

I'm testing this soundcard device on my desktop. I planning on putting it on the PI in my car to have the ability to run mostly APRS. However with the ability to run Pat Winlink.?
I can't get this device to PTT. IF it doesn't PTT on a Win OS which I know more than Linux I won't get it to run on the Pi.

Any idea's?if?you got one and to PTT red light to come on when TX. I have got the same playback and record settings as a signalink.

Don Melcher, I did a fresh build this morning only installing the hotspot & hotspot tools with build a pi and all seems to be working as expected so I can't answer why your SSID isn't showing. Is your user name still pi? Run this command and follow the on screen directions please.
bash ~/pi-build/diagnostic
I'll take a look and see if anything stands out.

Also, after the initial BAP install, when I selected any options in the hotspot tools, the UX would immediately exit. I¡¯m pretty sure there isn¡¯t a bug here but it¡¯s related to me modifying the BAP scripts to run under a user other than ¡®pi¡¯. Again, more testing is required. Unfortunately I¡¯m not able to do any more testing until next week.
Jay, you are always my trouble maker. hihi! I suspect that it is closing due to an error since Hotspot Tools expects you to be user pi. There are several applications that need to be modded before we can mod BAP to allow users other than pi. It is still on my list but the day job has thankfully picked back up and allowed less time for coding.
