KU3RRY [AE] [VE]
Hey all,
I¡¯ve haven¡¯t done as much research as I like before posting this question, so forgive me if it obvious. With possibly hurricane Ian about to impact the gulf coast, I wanted to see if there was a way I could quickly deploy my BAP rig as a 20m winlink gateway? I see a build from scratch video for 2m packet, but not anything really about a quick transform and for 20m band. My goal is to quickly transform my station so I may support operators that may need help. Is this possible or should I look at building another setup? cheers Edward KU3RRY |
Re: Using iPad as remote desktop?
@Tom: There are a large number of documentation sites out there. I used the key words of 'debian', 'access' and 'point' (debian being the base OS of RaspberryPiOS. I like:
Most of the good directions include hostapd and a good dhcp server. I don't like using 'bridge' functions, unless I'm passing through services to my home network... |
Re: Use a good USB cable ¨C lesson learned
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have my usb wrapped in a toroid.? Since doing that, I have had no issues. ? Terry K4HNT ? From:
[email protected] <[email protected]> on behalf of George - AK4NG via groups.io <ribet@...> Until today, I have been playing with my BAP RasPi and QRP transceiver in my shack where everything is well grounded and I was using a grounded power supply to power both. Also using the permanent antennas that are connected to the same grounding system. Everything has been working great. ? I moved to the back yard, set up a portable antenna, connected the RasPi and radio to a battery and attempted to operate. I had problems with the WIFI dying on the RasPi and noticed new noise on the transceiver, especially when I connected to the transceiver with Flrig. ? The culprit was a cheap USB cable. I went to my pile of cables, leftover from previous devices, and selected one that was heavier built and had a noise filter on the end that connects to the radio. Problems solved. This shows the added benefit of good cables and a good grounding system. The first you can always take with you but the later is not always available. |

Re: Using iPad as remote desktop?
Hello Jason,
I use Hotspot Tools with my Xiegu/RPi/DigiRig/iPad and it works great when there is no internet available.? Like others, I have been exploring RPi alternatives and acquired a mini PC and am using it headless with the iPad as screen/KB - very impressed with performance. This is fine when I am on my home wifi network, but can you please point me at some documentation to build/install a PC based package on the mini PC like Hotspot Tools so I can take the package into the field?? -- tnx ... Re: pi install
#rpi
much better :-) Let's see if we can get you back to square one. Run
rm -rf ~/pi-build The above command will remove the BAP directory. Afterwards you should be able to run the following: git clone $HOME/pi-build && bash $HOME/pi-build/build-a-pi -- 73, de KM4ACK

Re: HT keying with Digirig
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýView ¡ ok, I need to find that. Thanks for that, Don.And THAT is what it was all along !! I put the RPi on a larger screen and, ?lo and behold, there were the gauges !! I was able to set the Digirig PTT finally and it worked well. The gauges however did not offer anything useful. The audio level was always in the red and when I tried to adjust the levels with alsamixer, it didn¡¯t change - even when everything was muted. The audio from the HT was at a whisper as well. So, I don¡¯t know what¡¯s going on there. But, I was successful in connecting to my gateway with Vara FM by trial and error with audio levels and I¡¯m happy !! I DID move the gauge window to a spot that would make it show up on my iPad and tested that with VNC successfully. Thanks all !!! 73, Jamie WB4YDL On Sep 23, 2022, at 11:39 AM, Don Poaps <va7dgp@...> wrote:

Look at View and click on what you want. Vara sits on top covering Action in Pat Winlink. Lucky Ready can find Winlink Gateways. Re: HT keying with Digirig
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI think you guys usurped the thread I started ! HI HI No problems - carry on.Jason - one possibility - I have been accessing the RPi using a iPad by VNC. That may not be enough desktop space to SEE the 4 dials which may be lurking off to the side. I¡¯ll hook up things with a larger monitor and see if it¡¯s actually there. There ought to be a way to move renegade windows with some sort of command. Also, I don¡¯t see an icon on the running app bar at the top for this. Quite confusing, but I¡¯ll keep at it. :) 73, Jamie WB4YDL On Sep 23, 2022, at 8:17 AM, Bruce Wattendorf <bwattendorf@...> wrote:

Re: HT keying with Digirig
OK this is an issue with the x86 version not the pi version, It is because we are not using box86. So this is closed. Sorry all,, On Fri, Sep 23, 2022 at 9:10 AM Don Poaps <va7dgp@...> wrote:

Don,? is the error message when you click on the open VARA link in Pat menu 2 or when you click on the Vara link in the main Ham radio menu ( which is what I do the Vara link in?Pat menu might be broken).? Bruce On Fri, Sep 23, 2022 at 8:25 AM km4ack <jason.oleham@...> wrote:

Re: HT keying with Digirig
The vara on my laptop runs but I get a message saying it failed. As soon as I click OK on error message. The Pat Web Gui loads. I was banging my head on my desk trying to get the Xiegu G 90 (Digirig) to PTT. The FLrig finds the Digirig PnP Codec. I had to go to config > ptt-generic > at the PTT on Cat Serial Port > CAT changed to BOTH, RTS changed to BOTH and saved.? Now I can use Xiegu G 90 on JS8CAll. I'm working on finding a 20 m Winlink Gateway I can quickly tune the mag loop and talk and get messages. 73 Don Poaps New Westminster, BC VA7DGP DATA VA7QU ? VOICE Winlink:?va7dgp@... Re: HT keying with Digirig
I've been banging my head on my computer desk with the Raspberry Desktop Pi OS using Intel version of Build a PI. Denis K0TX of Digirig posted a screen of FLrig 1.44 (I was running Win 10 on my Toughbook) . I was able to get my Xiegu G 90 to work. The version that's loaded in the Build a PI that W1BAW has written is FLrig 1.47.? See if it's version 1.47. The menu settings for PTT-Generic are not the same that Denis showed me for Win 10 FLrig 1.4.4 73 ?? Don Poaps New Westminster, BC VA7DGP DATA VA7QU ? VOICE Winlink: va7qu@...
