Don,

I am working on a revision for BAP 3.0.3 that will help operators use GPS devices other than the
3.0.3 is in the dev branch now but should push to the main branch in a week or so.

Re: BAPv3 questions/error message

Jason,

your suggestion fixed the ¡°Missing x term¡± problem, and while diagnosing, I realized Ruby was not installed.

I began troubleshooting the missing gridquare on Conky, and figured it out.

I noticed ¡°Pat Active¡± on Conky, and went to Pat Menu>Manage Pat Winlink. Selected GPS Grid update. It told me that Ruby was not installed, and prompted me to install it.?

Once Ruby installed, pat had an active, correct grid square and now Conky does as well¡ªall is working!

thanks for your help.

IC-7300

Jason and the group:

Thanks so much for that 7300 note.? I had been having trouble with Pies for months where FLRIG would stop recognizing my 7300.? I tried reinstalling Hamlib and Flrig, no joy.? I must have tried fifty other things--no joy.? Same trouble on Pi 3B and 4B.? The only thing that would work would be a full reflash and reinstall, and it would work for a while until one day it didn't.? Sinking feeling, Ugh.

This app note fixed it.? It was the gpsd hotplug parameter, which was making the rig look like a time source instead of a radio.? Jebus H. Jones!? I never would have found that in a century!? Like magic I'm back in business.? ?Thank you thank you.? ?Tip Jar here I come.

All,

I have "things" running, 32 Bit OS <verified>.

How can I check OS ??? I may have been running the 64 Bit OS.

RATHER than overclocking, I am using force_turbo=1
all four cores run at 1.5G, full time.? It is faster than overclocking at 2G, at least as far as wsjt-x goes.
The temp only went up 2C.

See:

My next "thing to try" is to go from mSD to SSD...

The GPS was working with the USB3 SSD enabled (not boot device).
See: ?and 120G disk (metal case):

The GPS stopped when I started using an Anker 4 port USB3 extender: and a SanDisk microSD adapter: (I removed the USB3 SSD disk).

I needed to re-boot to restore GPS display.? I could not just remove the USB3 extender...

"BUG" ...? I have wifi turned off.? I would not expect to see 10.10.10.10 as an IP address ??

I will now see if/when I can duplicate my "all messed up system".
Possibilities are;? I had tried 64 bit OS and I am not sure I wasn't using that microSD. (I keep the mSD's in anti-static bags that I label. I get interrupted...).? It could be related to boot from SSD.? Or overclocking.? Both use "sudo apt full-upgrade and sudo rpi-update.? The SSD code requires a sudo apt install rpi-eeprom and a sudo rpi-eeprom-update.

I would expect the eeprom updates to be permanent and still be in effect with the current working system?

I will see when/if it fails...

Steve,

Try getting the system up and running on a stock configuration. Once you have it running correctly, then try moving to the next step. As it is now, I can't say if your issues are from installation problems, running from the SSD or some other issue trying to overclock the system.

Start by installing the OS and then run build a pi on the SD card. Verify everything works and backup the system. Once verified & backed up, move it to the SSD and confirm it still works. Backup the system. Next move to overclocking if you wish.

This process will allow you to figure out that each steps works before progressing to the next and will make it easier to pinpoint what is causing issues for you.

There was a recent issue discovered with FLRIG not installing correctly. This has been corrected in BAP 3.0.1 that was released yesterday.

If the wifi card is truly off, you should not see the 10.10.10.10 address. If a known SSID is just out of range, you would see the 10.10.10.10 address. This is the hotspot that the pi generates when no known SSIDs are in range.

Re: HamClock Update

Just a thought, and don't know if this is possible since I am not a linux guru, but I did retire from a career as a systems analyst (I was a process/idea man, and left the implementation to the coders). Possibly BAP could check for latest version at startup, and perform the git pull as needed. Also, it might be helpful to display the version of BAP on the splash screen. Like I said, just a couple of suggestions from the peanut gallery.

Bill,

I have the same gps.? The problem is the script does not adapt to different GPSs that use different ports. Do the following.

Check the port of your device by running the command
ls /dev/*USB*

You should see your device listed as
/dev/ttyUSB0

Run the following command to edit the gpsd settings
sudo nano /etc/default/gpsd

change devices to the following?
DEVICES="/dev/ttyUSB0"

Reboot and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps.

Re: New Build-a-Pi V3 installation problem

Jason, please scroll up and look at my post about conky. I think you missed it because someone else stepped into my topic and replied with his problem instead of starting his own topic. Thanks

Re: New Build-a-Pi V3 installation problem

The changelog is in the repo

If you are on 3.0.0 or 3.0.1 updating is manual. To update, run:

cd ~/pi-build
git pull

Should that fail with errors, do this instead

cd ~
rm -rf ~/pi-build
git clone https://github.com/km4ack/pi-build.git

Once you upgrade to 3.0.2, the software will check for future upgrades every time the BAP update script is run.

I usually limit my heavy code writing to the winter months and only push bug fixes and minor updates the rest of the year. With the human malware, I had more time than usual trapped inside this year.

Re: HamClock Update

Very good, sir.

First suggested approach seems to have worked.

flrig is now installing.? Will test later.

Re: HamClock Update

I suspect you are feeling this is growing into a monster -- welcome to development :-)

This is a good thing. It has pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced me to learn new things. That is always good!

There was an issue with FLRIG & FLMSG that was fixed in 3.0.1. The latest build is 3.0.2. You can easily upgrade with these commands.

cd ~/pi-build
git pull

Should that fail with errors, do this instead

cd ~
rm -rf ~/pi-build
git clone https://github.com/km4ack/pi-build.git

Once you upgrade to 3.0.2, the software will check for future upgrades every time the BAP upgrade script is run.
