I have a usb SCS-PTC 11EX tnc. I certainly use that as I'm finding my Bluetooth doesn't connect to well across several rooms. I could VNC and run Pat Winlink via VNC from my main desktop. 73 Don Poaps New Westminster, BC VA7DGP DATA VA7QU ? VOICE Winlink: va7qu@... Subject://wl2k ? ? ? ? ? I know there is a lot of content to dig through if you are new to the Pi game. Over two years worth of content resides on my channel alone. Don't hesitate to ask more questions if you get stumped again.
One thing you might want to consider. I took a cursory glance at the diagnostic file and it appears you built this system long ago. You might consider a fresh build if time allows so you have all of the latest and greatest fixes that have been included in BAP related to various software and configuration(s). -- 73, de KM4ACK

Re: Request for next BAP version: Disable or give option to disable GPS entry during install
This is an interesting situation. I have created an so I can look at ways to solve this.
Had you not chosen to install the GPS software, you wouldn't have been prompted to pick the GPS. I think what may have happened was you had the Digimode-4 USB connected during the build but not a GPS. Build a Pi listed the Digimode-4 USB as the only choice and you had no option but to choose it in order to get past the screen. Currently "none" isn't an option in that dialog box. Let me dig into it and see what solution I can come up with. Thanks for the report! -- 73, de KM4ACK

Request for next BAP version: Disable or give option to disable GPS entry during install
I had just built a new Pi from a clean Raspbian image and first-time BAP install. During the BAP install, it asks for the USB port of the GPS; however, I wasn't using the GPS so just skipped by that. Apparently, if you skip the GPS entry then BAP just grabs some USB port and enters it into the OS as the GPS port.? I didn't realize it at the time, but this caused a big problem:? when I switched on the radio (G90) it instantly went into TX mode.? I couldn't figure out what was causing that.?
?
This morning I was updating BAP on the same Pi, and noticed my Digimode-4 USB name was showing up in BAP under the GPS. Using the GPS Update tool (also part of BAP), I switched GPS to Phone and viola', I could turn on the radio and not have it go into TX!? I think forcing a GPS entry (or assuming one) might cause a lot of head-scratching. Could BAP do one of these things instead: 1. Don't ask for GPS during initial install - leave it as an update tool option. 2. Allow the selection of "None" for the GPS entry during install. 3. If the user leaves the GPS field blank, then do nothing with GPS setup (or set up the Phone option instead).? |
Re: BAP on RasPi zero
Evening all.
My USB 'Hat' arrived for the pi-zero. Fits the board perfectly and gives 4 USB-2 ports and one micro USB. So far so good. Pugged in my FT-705 and hey, FLRig opens up and controls the rig remotely. All the normal controls, frequency, power etc. Then I tried audio. Humm I can either have audio connected OR an application that needs the audio ( like FL-Digi) but not both simultaneously. I still have Conky running so I'm going to try disabling that to see if can get FLdigi to run with audio input to at least get one useful application coupled to the rig. All interesting stuff -- but I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that the Pi-zero simply doesn't have enough puff! I've ordered a Banana-pi board. Should be here mid next month. 73 Bruce G4ABX |
BTWRe: BAP stopped in mid installation
Bill, Jason,
I followed Bill's instructions and have it running. I have a few hiccups that I'll work on....like low power level and intermittent PTT on Signalink. BTW, I'm working FT8 at first. I did make a few contacts with the KM4ACK EFHW antenna. Jason, thanks for the additional help....I'll just have to wait 'n see to determine if a complete rebuild is justified. Thanks, Ken KB4XT |
Re: NOOB with growing pains
God bless you Jason! Sorry I bothered you. NOOB is a sophomore now. Display resolution was Issue 1 and not finding video
HELP! Conky Won't Start :: GPS Issuewas Issue 2. You're the Best I had tried a different build and your dedication to this project proves itself in spades.? I've been able to do more in 2 days then the other build in 2 months.73's de Jeff KO4NCC |
Hello all,
After finishing my BAP installation big thanks to Jason for this tooI, otherwise I would never get suche a system running, I found an interesting project (#580 ?) from?SA7SKY,?DM4RW and?DL3FCJ. It expands the possibilities to work with the SCS P4Dragon with Raspberry PI. At the moment only the Terminalmode is available. I installed this straight forward like described in the documentation, connection via USB. A didn't get the Bluetooth connection running and also the frequency control through the modem (like in WINLINK). According to the document PAT integration is planned, so this could be a great extension for a BAP installation. here is the link to the website:? Link to PAT integration:? 73 de Erwin, OE1EKG |
Re: BAP stopped in mid installation
I forgot to say....how do I fix it without starting all over with OS installation? The path forward with the least amount of headaches might be to start from scratch and reinstall the OS. This is because you have no idea at what point the Pi got hung. With that said, there are a couple of other ways that can be used to try and recover. Try running the update script with: bash ~/pi-build/update or use the method that Bill suggested above. -- 73, de KM4ACK

Re: BAP stopped in mid installation
Kinda of easy to do .
1. open the file explorer this should open into the home directory. 2. find the pi-build directory; right click and select move to trash 3. open terminal and enter:?
this will install a fresh copy of build-a-pi |
BAP stopped in mid installation
When returning the screen was blank and no amount of mouse movement would wake it up.
I rebooted and went back to github and tried to restart it and received the following message. Ken KB4XT pi@raspberrypi:~ $ git clone https://github.com/km4ack/pi-build.git \ >? ?$HOME/pi-build && bash $HOME/pi-build/build-a-pi
fatal: destination path '/home/pi/pi-build' already exists and is not an empty directory.
