Re: 49:1 EFHW Antenna Kit

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Thanks for your hard work Jason! I¡¯m anxious to get one ordered!

Build-a-Pi V 3.0.8 doing update to null version Ends up with invalid desktop entry

I did an update to v.3.0.8 on top of a previous build this morning and BAP asked if I wanted to update from V3.0.8 to ""? No new version in the message, I siad OK and was left with an Invalid Desktop Entry for BAP.? For some reason BAP wanted to do an update but it didn't work and clobbered the previous entry.

My $HOME/pi-build folder is gone.? Got it back through a github.? Ran it again after restoring it and is working OK.? It did not ask to update BAP

Re: BAP on RasPi zero

Thanks for the tip Jason.
FLdigi is installed!
I left BAP as it was and just implemented the commands you suggested.

Now I need to rig up my sound card and serial connection to talk to the Pi and see if I can get it all to operate.

Re: Just for Fun, What is your long QSO with the KM4ACK EFHW Antenna? #antenna #efhw

Sound good Jim.? I hope I didn't come across as being I jerk, I just wanted to make sure that you had it working correctly.? I've seen a few people use them the same as 9:1 and didn't realize the benefits of tuning and trimming the antenna once and being able to work it without a tuner later.? I love the EFHW.? I have an 80m antenna at the QTH

Re: I think I have tried everything, but maybe not. Help!

I purchased two of these GPS dongles

and they work just fine. I have one on a pie that is in the garage, sitting on a metal shelf. It took a few minutes for Conky to get the information from it. I first thought it wasn't working after I hooked it up and restarted the Pi, but I let it sit there and when I checked back an hour later, Conky had my grid square showing. So I actually don't know how it actually took, but it is working and continues to work after multiple restarts over the past few days.

My usecase is to install the Pi inside my KX3 GoBox. There isn't much space and heat build up is a problem with my Pi4. The two fans on the front are pretty noisy so I would prefer not to need them running flat out all the time I to use the Pi :-)

It's the low power consumption of the Pi-zero that attracted me - which is why I will persevere.

If I could get FLdigi running, that together with JS8Call and a logging program would make it a viable install.
As I couldn't get HAMMRS to install I'm going to try a couple of other logging programs -- but logging is not a deal breaker as HAMMRS is working fine on my tablet.

I use JS8Call quite a lot -- but I'm definitely in the minority with that!

If Pi zero won't play, I'll try Banana pi -- but they are not available here in europe yet so I'll have to wait.

I haven't tried installing HAMRS on the zero. FLDIGI will be a real challenge to compile due to the limited RAM on the zero. BAP increases the swap memory on the Pi 3 so it can be built there but I don't think BAP will work for the zero. You might try installing from the package manager. This will give you an older version but it should work.

sudo apt install fldigi

I really want to buy one of these but in the mean time do you share the 3D print file? They have been out of stock for a while.
Tom,

The next stock should be in the store Labor Day weekend. Normally it isn't that long between stock update but my work schedule is crazy this month. They do sell out in about 24 hours each time I add stock. Be sure to get on the .

What kit are you referring to?
Don, they are referring to my .

Seems to work now. Thanks Gentlemen! When I restarted it didnt seem to work. I am sure i am just impatient so I went to the ham radio menu and selected conky and it worked. Thanks for all your help!

Re: Problem with PAT and Direwolf

Okay, I meant to say I edited the direwolf.conf to reflect the serial port for the PTT Control for the IC-705.? But the issue is getting ax25 to listen for packet winlink.

Re: 49:1 EFHW Antenna Kit

Yup did that about 3 weeks ago, maybe something was wrong on my side, I¡¯ll try again.

Re: 49:1 EFHW Antenna Kit

They restock quickly, but sell out just as fast. Get on the alert list for when they have more and buy it within 24 hours of being notified and you should be OK...that is what I had to do. It does work very well and is a super kit that is well thought out.

Re: BAP on RasPi zero

I had no luck with Fldigi on mine, so I never loaded nor tried Flrig after the first attempt, but I was able to load and run WSJT-X. Although it is slow to decode, I still use it and had several FT8 contacts just yesterday operating remote with only an Android tablet back to a uBitX in the shack. I think I installed WSJT-X via BAP, but it is possible I installed it directly from the Pi menu, so do try that. I never tried HMRS nor JS8-call.

Re: BAP on RasPi zero

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hammrs surprises me, the others not, as a bigger pi can have trouble decoding fast enough at times when lots of streams are present on the frequency. ?

The only thing I have seen the zero do well is digital hot spot duties. I¡¯m veRy happy with the one I have doing that, so much so I have a second I picked up as a kit that I plan to use in my vehicle full time. ? Still thinking on a way to monitor the engine so when it is off the pi will do a normal shutdown after a period of time and temperature as a way to preserve the pi file system, the pi itself and the vehicle battery.?

I've not tried the other BAP applications yet.

I was hoping I could get FL-DIgi to run but so far, after 4 attempts, it won't even install from BAP
I will also try loading the applications directly without the BAP installation and see if I can persuade the tiny processor to run a bit more stuff.

More investigation will be done over the next week -- !

49:1 EFHW Antenna Kit

Hello,

I really want to buy one of these but in the mean time do you share the 3D print file? They have been out of stock for a while.

Thanks

Re: Problem with PAT and Direwolf

I¡¯m having issues as well connecting to Packet Winlink connected via a USB cable to an IC-705. ?I watched the Packet Winlink video. ?My Pat Winlink with ARDOP is working great. ?I¡¯m getting a Unable to establish connection to remote: No AX.25 Ports Configured.?

Flrig is changing frequencies.
Direwolf does not show errors.
I edited the ax25 to reflect the serial port used by-Id to control PTT.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Post a copy of your ax25 so we can see the edits. If you installed with BAP, there shouldn't be any edits to make to this file under normal circumstances.
