Re: Very interesting video from ON8STN
After finishing I found it's a Windoze OS. I'm wondering if the Raspian Desktop OS would work. I have to do some research to see if they have a Linux version. 73 Don Poaps

Good idea... I never tried VOX.? Thanks for passing this on.
This is a USB CAT command issue within flrig. I contacted the flrig author (via the linuxham group), and they are working on a solution. Meanwhile, you can use the K3 configuration file in flrig since it is similar and working. Ed |

Thoughts and tests
Hi all I had noticed on the Raspberry pi site an iso download for i386. I have a fairly large stable of older i386 32GB laptops. One of my newer ones is an HP Stream 11 inch I had setup with xubuntu 19.03. I worked but I wondered if the lighter weight Raspian work work better. I had a USB3 64GB disk setting around and? so I loaded it up with the 11-11-20 version and setup the laptop to boot from the USB3, it ran faster then the internal 32GB on Xubuntu. So I tested it with a compile of Fldigi latest source, it did compile and ran?fine. So my next thought since it is Raspian will it work with "build-a-pi. So a load of BAP 3.0.5 was installed and it ran on several of the tests, I haven't loaded all of the available apps and I expect it would take quite a while to run, but I do have Conky running now with the GPS/Glonass Ublox7 showing my grid square?of EM65tv. So why do I want this, because the Rpi 4 4GB with a 5" monitor and supplied 5V 3A PS at times shows a low power warning, and I think is why the GPS doesn't work. The GPS will work if I am outside, which isn't much possible this winter. Also I was just curious?to see if it would work. Will I use it much maybe, but the fact that it is loaded on a bootable external disk makes it an OS that is very light weight and Portable also.? I am sure stoked during this snow event. It gave me a good play thing for a? couple of days. Good day all. Marty kd8bj --

Re: IC-705 USB Sound No Worky
#PI4
Thanks for the reply, Dean.
To answer your questions, yes I am able to fully control the rig via FLRig. Tune, PTT, etc. Native GPS on the 705 works and is being pulled properly for Conky. The only issue is when I transmit in FLDigi using FLRig, I get no sound output over the air. I can hear the sound output through my speakers built-in to the monitor, but nothing through the radio or on the waterfall. I've verified this with a shortwave receiver along with the built-in TX/RX record function in the radio. What I have seen in others installations is the different sound card options that I don't have. Others show a USB Audio option that I don't seem to have. (I do have this option in my windows installation, but not on the Pi) All that I have is Pulse and Default options to select. Both of which don't output any sound over the air. 73 de Erik |

from FLRig, are you able to tune? when you press PTT does it key the radio?? If yes then you just need to set up your different digital protocols to interface with flrig and flrig will control the radio. But, if you are using a glonass gps dongle, you need to go into the gpsd file and change autostart from true to false then control x, y and, enter to exit and save.?
I had an issue in the beginning of my pi build, the gps dongle was creating a conflict and, it grabbed the usb port and would not release them.? besides, the 705 has a built in gps, you don't need the dongle. |
Problem loading Build-a-Pi
I am new to the Raspberry Pi and was looking to implement a portable digital setup. The Build-a-Pi looks like the perfect solution to getting what I wanted on the system, so I watched the video and started loading it. In the dialog I selected all the first options as suggested, then it asked for the name of my GPS. Well, I don't have that, so? selected cancel, thinking it would skip that step until I had a GPS module installed. Alas, it halted the program altogether. So...I thought maybe if I start with the link again, but now it says the directory already exists or has data and that is a fatal error. I tried erasing files in the directory, but I cannot see how to delete the sub directories. Short of reformatting the SD card and starting from scratch, how can I get the Build-a-Pi process started again?

BUILD-A-PI SPEEDBUMPS
Hello again.? I'm working my way through the "Raspberry Pi Build For Ham Radio" Parts 1, 2, and 3 plus the "Pi 4 Build Notes Revised 20200225" referenced in Part 1 of the videos above. For the most part, things have moved along, although slowly.? Sometimes when the video or the document says to create a new file, I'll look in the directories imported from github and I'll see the file is already there and even made executable.? In those instances, I'm reluctant to follow the documented process because it seems those steps have already been done, which makes that part of the documentation obsolete.? It's a tedious process to check each one of those, so it's taking a long time to get through the build. Now to the latest speedbumps I've encountered... | Find ARDOP? After following the Part 2 video and the Build Notes, including copy and paste of the commands, I don't get the result described.? When I choose "Execute in Terminal", I get the message, "Failed to execute child process 'xterm' (No such file or directory)".? I repeated the steps several times with the same result.? Not knowing what to do next, I completed the scheduling of the update at 0200 though I doubt it will give me an updated ARDOP list. | Direwolf? Again, following the steps in the Part 2 video and in the Build Notes, I copied the commands line by line until I got to sudo make install.? At this point I got the message, "make: No rule to make target 'install'. Stop."? The same thing happened with the next step, make install-conf,?"make: No rule to make target 'install-conf'. Stop." I decided not to go any further, and to look for some help. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get past these?? Only a few more pages to go. Thanks - ed, k9ew |
Pat menu 2 kx3 control issue
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone knows the answer. I have raspberry pi 4 and I downloaded the ham pi 1.2 image. There were some files not in right places but I think I fixed all of that. I'm turning on Flrig which I configured and works fine (except I can't use internal antenna tuner for some reason with it?) To change frequencies and adjust volumes and other controls. I have my kx3 connected to px3 and using a cheap usb sound card. I am able to use pat menu 2 however I have to set the frequencies I'm going to call first. Pat menu will not change frequency and will just start transmitting on whatever frequency I'm currently on. Any ideas?? |
IC-705 USB Sound No Worky
#PI4
Hi guys,
Just installed BAP on a Pi4B alongside my IC-705. I am able to get everything to work (Conky, GPS, FLRig, etc) EXCEPT anything that requires a soundcard...FLDigi or WJST-X, etc. The only options I have to choose from in the Soundcard menu are Default and Pulse; none of which output any sound on the air. (Radio keys, but no sound) To test, I've installed FLRig, FLDigi and WJST on my Latte Panda Win10 board and all programs work as expected. Any thoughts on the RPi4 USB Sound? 73 de Erik N9OJR |
