Hotspot V2

Benjamin Gentle

Installed a fresh new copy of buster on the pi4 2gb version , every-time I install hotspot tools V2 and try to enable it , it kills my wifi and will not let me enable it also the HS never enables. On the same hardware I have my build a pi setup and Hotspot tools v2 works just fine am I missing a dependency that normally comes in with the BAP script?

For reference this isn't for a ham radio system , I am setting up an off grid Plex Media server for my camper and the auto hotspot would allow me to to share out the server for all my plex clients at my off grid / no cell/no internet/ nothing but ham radio campsite.?

Re: Pi Build 2 Dierwolf crashes

The set deirwolf?command worked. I had to hunt the videos after I updated the new SD card.? The deirwolf?path to sound work for packet. I sent a Winlink message via Winlink (Pat)? and APRS from Yaac.

Re: Need help Please!

Mine is on a usb 24 inch extension hanging in a window at all times. I hang it in the same window plugged into a 5w wall charger for an iPhone and it acquires signal just fine. I was reading the gps faq and noticed the hdmi issue. I am running a monitor as well and just cleaned up my cables yesterday. We will see if coiled cable management makes a difference. I left it running all night and after an update and reboot this morning everything came back online just fine but I am also not using the hub right now. If I let the gps acquire signals first then plug in the hub everything stays working If I reboot with the hub attached seems to be when I loose communication with the gps (or rather it looses satellite data - gpsmon and others are empty for a satellite list). I will test more later with the hub and reboots and see if I can reproduce the issue.

Re: Need help Please!

This sounds like you are losing your connection due to being indoors and the GPS can't get a clear view of the sky. Does this happen if the pi/gps is outside?

Not sure which model specifically I have, I purchased through the link mentioned in the video : DIYmall VK-172

?

I have noticed that it will occasionally lose connection to satellites as well. If I run gpsmon or cgps or xgps, none will return satellite data. If I use system gpsd restart (I think that was the command), sometimes it will reconnect. Other times I have

to take it off the pi and connect it to a usb cable and a wall wart from my iPhone. Put it in a sunny window and forget about it for about 20 minutes while it reacquires the satellite link. Sometimes I have to do this, and a full reboot after plugging it back in before it works again. I first noticed this after I began using a usb hub to enable plugging in everything: GPS, SoundLink, Rig usb cable, and keyboard and mouse. The keyboard and mouse are the only things attached to the hub. I am wondering if the issue is perhaps a reduced voltage available to the gps unit when the hub is plugged in?

?

disclaimer: I am not a linux expert, I know just enough to break it really well.

Re: ARDOP no longer connects

David,

If you are running Pat Menu 2, check out this second post in this thread.

Re: Direwolf/ARDOP Issues and the latest Buster release (May 2020)

For those having packet/ardop modem issues and running Pat Menu 2, I have added a new feature that will correct the settings for the packet & ARDOP modems. See this page for instruction

Re: ARDOP Modulation

KM4ACK, wonderful advice you offered earlier. Paid attention this past weekend and found that while the Pi was changing the frequency correctly, it wasn't putting it into Data mode. After getting into Data mode and bumping up the audio input level a bit (audio is input via USB port) was seeing power output right where i was expecting. Off to the races now and I really appreciate the suggestions. Thanks a ton!

GPIO pin control, simple applet exists?

I have 2 12v fans cooling my pi, obviously they take power direct from 12v source not the pi. I want to turn them on/off with an external relay controlled by a gpio pin, as this is a battery powered remote rig.

I can code it myself in python or nodejs, but am thinking there must be a console applet someone already created to just allow one to toggle?a pin high/low. Console or xterm preferred as I vnc into the pi, but web interface ok too.

Thanks, Randy KN4YRM

Re: ARDOP no longer connects

Glad that worked out. It may change on you in the future. I found mine will be different depending on if I have the sound card plug in or not during boot. I am working on a "push button" fix that hopefully will be out soon.

If you want in on the second round of beta for v3, you can subscribe to the newsletter.

Re: ARDOP no longer connects

Yup! That did the trick! It was looking for the new card 2. I changed the patmenu config settings and she came back to life! You're awesome. thank you so very much. I? look forward to the version 3.
Take care and Stay safe from the Arkie in NJ!

Re: ARDOP no longer connects

David,

I haven't had a chance to play with the new OS much. I do know that it is causing issues with the packet modem because of the sound card numbering. I discussed it in this post.?I suspect you are having the same issues with the ARDOP modem. Are you running Build-a-Pi and Pat Menu? If so, run the arecord command I reference in the other post and change your sound card number for ardop if needed in the Pat Menu settings/config file.

ARDOP no longer connects

Hello, Since my last Raspbian update to the recent May 2020 "OS" version, ARDOP GUI will not communicate to the radio. I've tried multiple radios and other apps as well. None of the radios will receive commands from GUI nor will GUI receive data from the radios. I've tried this on my 857d, 817, and my IC-7300 when I was thinking it was my sound card device. I may just try to find an older version of Buster and start from scratch without letting the raspi update to the new OS.
If any one else has had this issue, is there a new setting that was created in the new OS that I'm not aware of? I'm not very savvy with this type of system. Thank you!

Direwolf/ARDOP Issues and the latest Buster release (May 2020)

It seems as though the latest Buster release (May 2020) is assigning Card 2 to the USB sound card that we all love to use. Previous to this release, it has always assigned Card 1 to the USB sound card. This will likely break the packet modem in Pat Menu & Build-a-Pi. I am going to try to correct this for release candidate 3. If you are running the latest Buster and the packet modem is not working, run the following command:

arecord -l (note: last letter is lower case L)

Look at the line that begins with "Card". The number following card is the number we need. If it is 1, you are good. If it is 2 then open your direwolf.conf file found in your home directory and look for the following line. It should be around line 70

ADEVICE ?plughw:1,0

and change to read

ADEVICE ?plughw:2,0

Save, exit, and reboot. Please leave a comment below if you were having this issue and if the above directions corrected it.

Re: Revisiting ExaGear (on the Pi 4B) - HRD*, antenna modeling software, and more

Last update for today.

I got HRD Digital Master 780 working on the Pi 4B (haven't tested 3B+ yet).? It's not very fast on the Pi 4B 2GB, but it seems to work and accepts input sound from my Sabrent USB sound card.? This was apparently all I needed to install to get it to run:

winetricks allfonts
# If this doesn't ever start due to "This will hang until all wine processes in prefix=/home/pi/.wine terminate" then rebooting the Pi will fix that
# If this gets stuck forever in the middle of the installation, CTRL-C to cancel, then just run it again (it completed fine the second time I rand it)
# credits:?

I'll do a fresh Pi/ExaGear/wine install both Pi's and post some more refined install steps sometime.

Re: Revisiting ExaGear (on the Pi 4B) - HRD*, antenna modeling software, and more

p.s.

I forgot that I also did this command:

exagear
sudo apt-get install winbind -y
