Re: linbpq rms not connecting

Edited

Thanks, I'll look over your config, maybe get a hint there. I'll post when I find the solution.
?
Jason: the bpq group is my next stop, I just thought I'd try here first.

Re: Meshtastic thoughts

Looks very cool, I'll pass it on to my local Meshtastic nerds and maybe one of us will give it a go. Thanks!

Re: linbpq rms not connecting

The best place to get help with configs for BPQ is in John's forum /g/bpq32/topics

Re: linbpq rms not connecting

It's been years since I had a bpq gateway. John Wiseman has a group where you can get help. bpq. cfg you should have your settings for Winlink secure login etc. I have a copy of my bpq. Cfg. I would have to see how it's set up

I have been trying to install bpq using the BAP scripts for several days, messing with the configuration, reinstalling from scratch, etc. with the same result. Web searches indicate that other people have the same problem, but no solution posted.
?
Installation goes as expected, I can connect to the node (it's connected directly from the client to the server through an 80 dB attenuator) but only get the "Type ?..." response. Entering RMS at the BPQ terminal connects to the RMS server no problem.
?
Any help appreciated.

APSPOT aprs command

Hello. I'm testing the aprs tool, APSPOT for POTA, SOTA spots. Question: is there a command which brings all spots heard? I know that I can spot my activation, but would like to know if I can receive info of others after their initial spot.
?
Thanks for any thoughts. 73.

Re: Installing 73Linux

Thanks for all your suggestions. I will take a look at them all. Clonezilla seems to be a reasonable solution.

Re: Installing 73Linux

You can create an installation disk in Windows to revert to Windows if you want. Even better is buy a cheap 512GB SSD and dual boot them both.

Re: Installing 73Linux

You may be overthinking it.

Microsoft maintains an online record of your Win11 activation, and simply re-installing Win11 will confirm the activation when you re-install.

Re-installing Win11 on a laptop is easy, just Google "Windows 11 media creation tool" and click on the link from Microsoft. [0]

I strongly suggest you do a complete re-install if you decide to go back to Win11, but restoring an old image is supported.

If you have customizations, applications, etc, that you feel are important to save, a simple backup of the system to an external drive (like a $10 128 Gig USB Flash drive) should suffice. You would simply use Microsoft's backup tool [1] to backup and restore your system. (Using an external drive should be an option)

Were you able to put an expanded SSD in your evolve III? If you have, then you can keep Win11 on the small SSD (which is very slow) and run Linux on an SSD (which is much faster).?

I hope this helps,

Re: Installing 73Linux

My preference(s) are to:
1) Remove and store any SSD a laptop comes with, and install a new 1TB drive, or
2) Use Clonezilla ( or similar ) to create a backup? of the internal drive to an external drive
3) Installing Debian, Mint, or Ubuntu Live editions to a USB drive, and installing 73linux on it is possible, but not a preferred, long term solution, as your long term usage becomes dependent on the 'persistence' setup of the OS.

Re: Switch to 73linux on Pi4?

Thanks for the recommendations. I will just do a full reinstall.
I presume RealVNC (Lite now) is still the preferred headless solution? I will be accessing from Windows, Mac, and iOS...

Pat Menu - New Menu Item(s) Request

I¡¯ll preface this with ¡°no¡± is a complete response. :) If the answer to any of the following is ¡°no,¡± that¡¯s fine. I give that answer out a lot.

Also, I¡¯m not sure if this is the correct forum for making and tracking requests like this. If it is not, please advise and I will request in the appropriate location.
?
In addition to being an amateur radio operator, I am also a SHARES member. On my Mac using AppleScripts, I have written two scripts - one for "Pat_Amateur" and one for "Pat_SHARES." It involves having three .json files - one for my amateur call (w4jbb.json), one for my SHARES call (nnb4jb.json) and the normal config.json file.
?
When I invoke "Pat_Amateur," I copy the w4jbb.json file to config.json and when I invoke "Pat_SHARES," I copy nnb4jb.json to config.json. While it took me a while to figure out *how* do to this because I'm not a coder, it now seems trivial.

Other parts of my scripts start Terminal and rigctld and the pat web server. I then start VARA HF (using CrossOver) of which I have two instances - again, one for my amateur call and one for my SHARES call (I probably should have just had one instance but we don't use CW ID in SHARES on Winlink and I couldn't figure out how to turn that off using one instance of VARA-HF in CrossOver).

Item Request #1:
Would it be possible to do something similar using Pat Menu in 73Linux?

Using Pat, I *really* miss the address book and I have *no* idea how to set about doing this in AppleScripts... I don't even know where to start.

Item Request #2:
Would it be possible to add an address book using scripting in Linux for Pat Menu? I did ask on the Pat group if an address book had been... ahem... addressed but I have yet to receive a response.

Item Request #2.5:
In lieu of #2, could you add a script to Pat Menu that invoked ICS 213 with specific addresses already filled in and then I fill in the pertinent information for a Net Report? (That may be a big ask. I know in RMS Express, the ICS 213 form, once filled in, remembers previous entries in those fields. It may be the same way in Pat. Yesterday was the first time I'd filled out ICS 213 using Pat).

Item Request #3:
In addition to getting a weather report via GPS, could you add a button that just used GPS coordinates if known? That may be there but I've somehow missed it.

Regards,
Joel - W4JBB

Re: Switch to 73linux on Pi4?

I installed 73Linux on top of Mint on an old HP pc last week.

All seems to be working well - although?not set everything up yet - but the install of WSJTX is the pre-release version WSJT-X 2.7?

QDX Low Audio

Hi All,
?
I recently built a QDX and have been trying to get it to work with 73Linux. I have a nagging low audio issue that I can't seem to work through. I have been assured by Hans, the designer of the QDX, that it is absolutely a software issue and not hardware.
I have adjusted the Pulse Audio sliders all to 100% and there is still not enough volume to "drive" the transmitter. I have adjusted the ALSA Mixer via the CLI as well with no luck. Anybody have an idea of where else to look?
?
Thanks in Advance,?

Re: Switch to 73linux on Pi4?

I think I would start with a new build from scratch.? Get the latest OS then download 73Linux from Jason's Github page.? Follow the instructions and then start your 73 Linux build.? There have been MANY changes in the build of the Apps over the past year so this is what i would do.

Switch to 73linux on Pi4?

I have a Pi4 that I installed BAP on about a year ago but never finished setting it all up. Now I want to finish up. Am I better off switching to 73linux? Can I just install 73linux to install and manage apps? Do I need to delete the year-old apps if so?
I looked through the archives and didn't see a clear answer.
Not sure how best to proceed. No interest in VARA, just for WSJTX (latest release candidate), JTDX, Gridtracker, CQRLOG, FLDIGI, and a few other assorted apps. I am thinking I had to do a manual install, maybe even a compile, of either WSJTX or JTDX a year ago?
