Re: #FT-857D Digital Setup #FT-857D

Jeff,?
I did not have the tuner attached.?
But also I discovered that I had menu #85 set to Tuner, if I set #85 to Off, then I'm able to change #20.

Thanks for your reply, I just bought the FT857D and am still trying to learn it.

Re: Strange Direwolf YACC and XASTIR error: rig_set_ptt command for channel 0 PTT

If flrig works point direwolf to flrig for PTT?

PTT RIG 2 localhost:4532

Strange Direwolf YACC and XASTIR error: rig_set_ptt command for channel 0 PTT

I've been beating my head against the wall for close to a month now trying to get ANY Direwolf and YACC or XASTIR combo to build a digipeater, Igate combo.
I have an FT-817nd, RPi 3, Yaesu CAT cable CT-62 and the KM4ACK--Build-a-Pi burned into a flashdisk.
Direwolf comes up running and receiving local packet traffic. Here is the startup info:

Dire Wolf version 1.7
Includes optional support for:? hamlib cm108-ptt
?
Reading config file direwolf.conf
Audio device for both receive and transmit: plughw:3,0? (channel 0)
Channel 0: 1200 baud, AFSK 1200 & 2200 Hz, A+, 44100 sample rate / 3.
Hamlib determined CAT control serial port rate of 38400.
User configuration overriding hamlib CAT control speed to 4800.
Ready to accept AGW client application 0 on port 8000 ...
Ready to accept KISS TCP client application 0 on port 8001 ...
?
Now connected to IGate server noam.aprs2.net (199.204.38.35)
Check server status here http://199.204.38.35:14501
**
When i start XASTIR I get the following error almost right away:

Hamlib Error: rig_set_ptt command for channel 0 PTT

ft817_set_ptt: get ptt cmd failed

Communication timed out

It repeats very so often, no doubt when trying to do something wit Hamlib.

More often than not the transmitter keys up and after about 12 seconds, goes off. I'm assuming it is the sum total of the times mentioned in the error message. I keep the transmitter at very low power so as not to block the channel 144.390 Mhz.

If I use YACC instead, the error doesn't happen right away, but randomly shows up.

The other thing that happens is that neither app seems to capture my beacons from my FT-5D. Eventually, a "superstation," about twenty miles away picks up the beacon and posts it to aprs.fi, but I never see it posted from my Igate, K1YPP-10.

The Hamlib and controls seem to work fine in FLdigi, FLrig and WSJT-x.

What can I post that will give some clues as to what isn't working properly?

So, what should I look at and what am I doing wrong. I've watched a million videos, mostly KM4ACK, and haven't found anything that seems to cure this...HELP!!!

Dennis, K1YPP

Hi, I just Build from cero a new SD for a Raspberry Pi 4B, with Raspberry Pi OS (Legacy) with desktop / Release date: December 5th 2023 / System: 32-bit / Kernel version: 6.1 / Debian version: 11 (bullseye)?
/Size: 894MB.

I have get working wsjtx and JS8call.
But i am having difficults to get to work the Pat Winlink in ARDOP, I am not sure if the is any issue i have missed.
The problem is that for Transmit does not activate the radio. But the cat control for changing the frequencies it works fine.
I have tried the configuration of the ICOM 7100, with the same problem.
Any ideas how did you set up ARdop for your G90 radio??

Below my settings for Ardop.

Next running Ardop with the screen opened.

Re: #FT-857D Digital Setup #FT-857D

Jeff

Do you have a tuner attached to the Rig?

#FT-857D Digital Setup #FT-857D

When setting up the 857 for digital use for FLRIG, I've encountered an issue when trying to change menu # 20 CAT/LIN/TUN.? Mine is set to TUN and it will not change; the only way that I have found to change it is by using Chirp, but if I turn the knob, it goes to TUN and it won't change back.? Is there another setting that is preventing me from changing it?? I have also read about a Pico fuse that if blown, it won't recognize the control cable.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: Can¡¯t get Xastir to install

Thanks Kelly.

I ran the sudo apt-get install -y ?libmotif-dev and was then able to install xastir.

from the man page?

if_running (process)if PROCESS is running, display everything $if_running and the matching $endif. This uses the ''pidof'' command, so the -x switch is also supported.k

Still looking for an answer to the original question:??where does conky look for an apps current status?

Re: conky screen is an empty rectangle in fresh build a pi install

Either roll back to ¡°x windows¡± and don¡¯t use Wayland for a windows manager?

conky is a 3rd party tool which is outside of the build a pi

k

Re: conky screen is an empty rectangle in fresh build a pi install

Kelly, I'm not sure what Xorg is.? When you say Standby, as in wait for the next release of Build a PI?

Re: conky screen is an empty rectangle in fresh build a pi install

Conky development and functionality of Wayland has been making a little noise lately; so best advice is roll back to Xorg or standby?

conky screen is an empty rectangle in fresh build a pi install

Just installed Build a Pi.? The first noticeable problem is that the conky display rectangle is blank and totally dark.? I know the gps is functioning as I checked that through terminal and all gps data is normal. ??
I'm running Book worm 32 bit on a Pi 4
Any ideas that anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: More GPS Winlink Bookworm woes

Yes, with the exception that it either doesn't get saved, or the Pat client isn't picking up the aliases.

You mentioned previously that you don't use pat. In spite of that you have been a great help! I appreciate that a lot.

Perhaps someone else that uses Pat could chime in.

Re: More GPS Winlink Bookworm woes

Thanks Kelly for the reply. I took your second suggestion:

"you could also set a bash string into the app for $XDG_CONFIG_HOME="~/.config" which would get any others missed."

In the patmenu file this is what I added:

export MYPATH=$HOME/patmenu2
LOGO=$MYPATH/pmlogo.png
MAIN=$MYPATH/./patmenu

XDG_CONFIG_HOME=$XDG_CONFIG_HOME=~/.config? ?<-- Just this line

Next, I set the manage-pat-functions file back to the original ( seemed like the thing to do...)?PATCONFIG=$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/pat/config.json

I started pat and yes, azimuth and distance appeared ( see attached). but when I tried to select an alias, none were shown.

More GPS Winlink Bookworm woes

I have found another issue with Pat winlink, and it also appears to be GPS related. When I try to search for gateways. the distance and azimuth columns are missing (see attachment) I am guessing that more variables are pointing to an incorrect config.json file.

For context, Kelly you suggested the following: "patmenu2 will not work until its re-factored for bookworm.
specifically PATCONFIG=$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/pat/config.json
is invalid giving you: Could not open file /pat/config.json: No such file or directory

you could edit the something like PATCONFIG=~/.config/pat/config.json"

I edited line 8 in the manage-pat-functions file, and Pat appeared to get the grid square - except not always as in this particular case when doing a gateway search.

Kelly, in my previous issue, you also mention: "line 47 on the pat menu file will correct the other instance here". Which might be my fix, as I haven't made this change because I looked at line 47 of the manage-pat-functions file, and it didn't make sense to me.

Here is what my manage-pat-functions file looks like in that area:

41: RCALL=$(echo $REMOVE | awk -F "|" '{print $1}')
42: RCALL1=$(echo "\"$RCALL\"")
43: #check something was selected
44: if [ -z "$RCALL" ]; then
45: yad --title="No Selection" --width=300 --height=100 \
46: --image $LOGO --window-icon=$LOGO --image-on-top \
47: --center --form --text="No station was selected\r Please try again" \
48: --button=gtk-ok
49: $MAIN &
51: exit
fi

======

Thanks in advance

Re: GPS / winlink issue with 73linux & bookworm 64 bit

I thought it might be a good idea to summarize this thread with regard to no GPS in conky and no GPS in Pat. Turns out these are two separate?issues and I will address them both separately:

First issue is no GPS in Conky. Turns out that for some reason when the GPS programs are installed, Ruby doesn't get installed. After installing the GPS apps, there is a message stating this, and asks if you want to install Ruby. Click Yes, or install (whatever it says...I don't remember)

This installs Ruby, but fails to install associated gems (not exactly sure what they are, my guess is they are like #include files in the C programming language..)

To install the Ruby gems do the following:

?sudo apt-get install ruby-dev
?sudo apt-get install rubygems
?sudo gem install
?sudo gem install gpsd_client
?sudo gem install maidenhead
?sudo gem install json

Reboot (just for fun...)

This gets your GPS grid displayed in Conky

=================

The second problem is that Pat doesn't read the GPS to get the grid.

In the patmenu2 folder in the home directory, edit the file: manage-pat-functions

change line 8 to be:?PATCONFIG=~/.config/pat/config.json

I want to thank Kelly for working with me on this, and Jason as well.
