Re: Build a Pi 3.0.3 Released

Bruce,

There was nothing in 3.0.3 that should have messed with the wifi. I think this is just coincidental. One suggestion might be to disable the hotspot using hotspot tools. Reboot and then enable the hotspot. I ran into a similar issue once and this seemed to "reset" things. Also, if you aren't actively using the hotspot and the pi is in the shack most of the time, you can also leave the hotspot disabled. This will prevent it from running.

To see what was changed in 3.0.3, check out the

Re: Build a Pi 3.0.3 Released

There has been a bug found in 3.0.2 & 3.0.3. If you update Pat Menu using the build a pi script, you will lose your Pat Menu config file.

I will get this resolved in 3.0.4 which we are already busy working on. For now, either copy your config file to your desktop so you can restore after updating Pat Menu or write down your settings before updating so you have a reference point.

Re: Build a Pi 3.0.3 Released

Good evening all

I upgraded from 3.02 to 3.03
That went smoothly. everything appeard to work.

Now here is my problem:
I run the Raspi-4b 'Headless' using VNC from various Macs/tablets I have around.

On 4 occasions today, post upgrade, the Raspi has lost its wifi connection and the Wifi 'Fan' has reverted to opposing arrows.
Each time I've connected an HDMI screen directly to the Pi and had to reboot the Pi in order to see anything on the screen at all. (Just plugging in the screen did not bring up any image on the Monitor)

I checked the status of Wifi from other computers whenn the VNC 'failed' and it has been solid -- so the Raspi hasn't lost Wifi becuase -- say a router has packed up.
It seems to have unilatterally 'lost' its wifi connection (and of course the VNC connection)

The only change I've done is the upgrade from 3.02 -- which incidently had been solid and 'up' for 2 weeks without a glitch.

Once I can 'see' the Raspi on the monitor, following a further 'controlled' reboot from the menu, the wifi comes up normally -- as if nothing was wrong -- either now or in the past.

Thoughts, Ideas or suggestions please.

Many thanks

Thanks to all, for what they do for me.
Until now I was becoming very unhappy.
I am new to Linux and was not following very well.
Again thank you one and all.
Jason, thank you. my order is here.

Working fantastic! Wish I had your programing abilities.. You are much appreciated. I've tried several time to set this up, one piece at a time via several different you-tubers doing similar. But until you started doing it and your first tutorial through to now has made it so easy, even an idiot like me can do it now!

Re: FT-891 - no RX

718 is a great radio for a beginner or anyone else as a utility radio. I sold a few to boaters who THOUGHT they wanted a 706 until I showed them how much easier. I even sold one to a couple of guys headed around the world in a Piper Twin Comanche. It can be dumbed down to USB only, eyc. The website might still be up.?

This works for me as well then. I am going to play with making my own RTC in my spare time, whatever that is. The linked RTC has a solder in battery and I'm not a fan. One of the other RTC's has a huge battery case and the pinout is wrong. The RTC boards aren't particularly complex to put together but they do use 0200 series SMD part and those are a pita to deal with.?

I've had such good luck with the BU-353S4 GPS that I'm good with relying on it.

You are most welcome. The offer stands if you have a need for a rig and can't borrow on locally.

I have made them? available to the local Techs who are youth and get their General but can't yet afford
their first HF rig. The Scout units that have a Control Operator and are doing radio work are also now
aware they are available.

Working on some FTM-3200 or DR-135MK III to have as spares / lending shack as well.

WOW!!! What a generous offer. Thank you!

I have an 857 that I will rely on until the 891 gets returned. It is my old work horse that made many outings before I finally purchased the 891 in late January. I'm good for now but thanks again.

And don't forget to backup the pi once it is confirmed working.....just in case :-)

Jason,? When you were creating BAP 3.0, you mentioned removing the RTC, with more info to follow.? Can you update us on why you chose to remove the RTC?
Thanks,

It is included in BAP now but not on the first run. Just run the BAP script again and it should be an option on the final screen.

Re: RTC

Jason,
Does the case you list work with the DockerPi and the RTC? Combined, they¡¯re too tall for my current case and the only extra tall case I¡¯ve found is $50! I¡¯d rather wrap the whole works in Kapton tape than spend that much for a case.

Haven't tried as I don't typically run the RTC. I rely on internet in the shack and GPS in the field. Since I carry a spare GPS into the field, I don't have to worry if my primary GPS fails.

I agree with having a hard time spending that much. I didn't like $18 for the current case but it works well with the maker focus hat and is much better than my last case.

Re: Build a Pi 3.0.3 Released

If I am starting out fresh. Do it need to install 3.02 first, then update to 3.03

Once you get the OS installed, open the terminal and run

git clone https://github.com/km4ack/pi-build.git $HOME/pi-build && bash $HOME/pi-build/build-a-pi
and it will install the latest version.

Ronnie,

The BAP from at least the 3.02 version will automatically update itself. ?Just run it. ?You do not need to get a new Operating system image. ?
