Re: None of my Pi's are showing on network _ HELP
P.S.... And NO this is NOT a "problem" in the hotspot software.

Actually this is the way the mmdvm software is supposed to work !! On Tue, Sep 1, 2020 at 2:25 PM Bob Finch <w9ya@...> wrote:

I would venture a *guess* that you are not assigning ip addresses in

your router, therefore the dhcp lease from the router is timing out and NOT renewing, and the hotspot is resetting to it's own network. Um,...since this MAY/CAN happen; I assign dhcp addresses in my router(s) that have NO lease-timeouts to various devices. <- This makes life MUCH easier. es vy 73 om de "baab" w9ya On Tue, Sep 1, 2020 at 2:12 PM Bill Dornbush <bill@...> wrote:

I had that problem, too. I tried a new router which didn't solve the problem.? I have tried starting over and then it works - for a while.? Disabling the hotspot did solve the problem.? Not installing it also solves the problem.? Although I have not been able to definitively demonstrate it, I think there is some issue with the hotspot software.

Re: None of my Pi's are showing on network _ HELP
Grover,
If you installed the hotspot with build a pi, each pi will create it's own hotspot. You can connect to each SSID and use 10.10.10.10 with VNC to connect to each long enough to enter the correct credentials for your wifi and get it back on your home router. The other option is to connect the pi via CAT5 cable to the new home router. Even with hotspot enabled, your home router will assign an IP address to each pi that you can use to connect. -- 73, de KM4ACK

USBAUTO="true"We have to be careful with this setting. With some radios (IC7300 in particular) setting this to true can cause an issue where the internal sound card of the radio is not accessible. This is why it is set to "false" by default in build a pi. The downside to setting to false is that the GPS must be plugged into the pi before we boot or it will not be recognized. ? -- 73, de KM4ACK

Re: Build-a-Pi command¡gone
I can't explain why this is happening but had a Patron email me yesterday with the same issue. We fixed it with the following three commands:
cd ~ rm -rf pi-build git clone https://github.com/km4ack/pi-build.git The above simply removes the build a pi directory and downloads a fresh copy. -- 73, de KM4ACK

Re: Screen Size for VNC
Good morning Bob.
I was going to purchase a dedicated screen for my Pi4b but it turned out to be more expensive than a Tablet, so I purchased a VANKYO s-10 tablet (10 inch screen) for about ?80 here in the UK and the 'pinch' mode works really well under VNC. The VANKYO is an 'entry-level' tablet with 2G RAM, 32G Storage and thankfully no 'Bloat-wear!' It seems an excellent device to marry with the Pi and BAP. I also purchased a foldable bluetooth keyboard -- with built in 'mouse' touch pad. That was about ?20 and again makes typing sooooo much easier than trying to do that on the tablet screen. Been out portable with the combination twice now and very pleased with the results. No problems with screen visibility and as the tablet and the keyboard have in-built batteries, I don't need to consider them in the 'Portable Power' calculations. I've been using my KX3 portable -- CW and FT8 (and a bit of SSB), and despite keeping the power down on FT8 to about 6 watts, (as I don't have any additional heat sinking on my KX3) I've been surprised by the excellent performance. My next task is to get logging on the Pi functioning with WSJT-X to (hopefully) automatically fill the various logging fields. At present I'm doing that manually. 73 Bruce G4ABX |

Do not do anything right away.....!! Let the owner of the git repo "get on the problem" and generate "the fix". (i.e. Let KM4ACk take care of things.....so to speak. Even if it isn't git related....) (My *guess* is that this problem is externally generated and can be fixed AFTER Jason works on it...) es vy 73 om de "baab" w9ya On Mon, Aug 31, 2020 at 10:10 PM James (KA9VIG) <jamesstytle@...> wrote:

Re: Chromebook
There is definitely a VNC viewer for the chromebook. As for running build-a-pi, while the Chromebook has a linux kernel?you can't run linux apps directly but from chrome OS ver. 69 (R72 is currently recommended) they use a linux virtual?machine (crostini/ termia)?which theoretically should be able to run the build a pi or scripts... whether this works or not remains to be tested but I doubt it the end result will be good as build-a-pi installs programs that access peripherals?like bluetooth and USB which aren't currently?supported in the VM for security?reasons. If anyone wants to check out requirements, give it a try or look at present or missing features you can check out the Chrome OS containers?doc here: ? especially the sections on quickstart or runtime features. If you have an old chromebook a better option would probably be to install Crouton to allow you to boot into linux, however, this isn't for the faint hearted, as it involves putting the chromebook?into developer mode which will erase everything so make sure you backup first. If you want to try the couton page is on github: ?? Personally I'd just install VNC from their app store and use the chromebook as a remote UI for the pi ?? Neil, VK3IG ? Build-a-Pi command¡gone
I had an odd thing happen. I went to run the Build-a-Pi script to update and now I get this error message: Invalid desktop entry file: ¡®/usr/share/applications/build-a-pi.desktop¡¯ I looked at the shortcut properties to see where the command would be found and it is¡missing ? This will teach me to back up my RPi! -- 73, Paul (N1HOB) |
