Ive got a really ugly weekend starting in about an hour so I won¡¯t be able to get on GitHub for at least a couple days. However I think this might be your best option.

Have the GPS default to a None setting and point the GPS to /dev/null?
This will definitely be the easiest to implement and is kind of the undocumented standard in the Un*x/Linux world.?

I¡¯ll add that to your ticket in GitHub when I¡¯m able.?
