Thanks, Bruce. I may try Fldigi again, then. I also overclocked mine 10% and I disable Conky when running other programs and that significantly improved operations. It really never gets hot, as you noted. As for adding more USB ports, I have a hub that I use to connect CAT, the sound card dongle, and the GPS dongle. It was also used initially to connect a keyboard and mouse when I was setting it up, but it has been run headless ever since. The whole thing is powered by the 5v port on a small battery pack (sitting on top of the rig in teh photo) that also powers the radio in the field, but just running the Pi it lasts literally for days.
