ssh to pi
cd /boot
sudo nano config.txt
then make these changes. ?Then save and exit the editor.
# uncomment if hdmi display is not detected and composite is being output
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
?
# uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA)
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=82
this should get you started with a desktop image.... then there are some other settings you can GUI to make it pretty... i.e. match resolution
