Dave is correct. You either don't have ssh enabled () or you are using the wrong IP address on your local network. You might also consider hooking up a keyboard/mouse/monitor and using the Raspberry Configuration tool in the menu to enable ssh. It might make your first experience a bit more pleasurable.
