Before I would do that, can you hook your Pi to an HDMI monitor or TV?? ?If you can they boot up and check your settings.
I am like you, not fully understanding Raspberry, routers or the language.
But, before I would start all over I would boot up using a monitor instead of doing the VNC connection.
