ARES for October

 

Dennis has agreed to take on the Thursday night net for the first two weeks of October while I'm in deer camp.
October's meeting is canceled since I'll be out of town. The next meeting will be in November.

A (1) radio operator is needed in Condon Oregon at the command post.

-You need to be an ARES member in good standing. (legal reasons)

- This is not being done under Union County, but under ARES.

-This will not be on the amateur bands, but on government channels / radios, passing official traffic.

- You must have experience passing traffic

-Will be a very long day(s), with probably very little break time.

-It might be intense.

-You should supply your own sleeping arrangement. Tent, trailer……

-Start time is 5am in Condon

Hi all, here are some more details on this request.

?

Operators will be working at the Incident Command Post located at the fairgrounds in Condon, Gilliam County. The work is to run agency radios in a dispatcher type role. The radios are already set up and they are looking for experienced "drop-in" operators who can handle communications and logging, and who are willing to work hard on a real incident. The Incident Command Post is operating 24 hours a day, and they are currently working 16-hour days with the day shift starting at 0500. (As previously mentioned, they are also looking for operators for the night shift). They are looking for operators starting with tomorrow's day shift (beginning at 0500 on Friday July 19). It's a camping type situation for the responders, so the recommendation is that you plan to camp or bring a trailer so you have your own self-contained accommodations if you are planning to work multiple days. (You are welcome to set up today, and work as many days as you like until the incident is over.) They do have sleep trailers available as an alternative.

Hi everyone,

I attached the exercise document.

There are two things I want to point out:?

1. Don't get confused by the references to messages coming from emergency management in real-world events.? We can send practice messages during an exercise.? During a real-world event, no messages would be sent to ODEM without the approval of local emergency management.? Also, requests from cities will need to go through the county; however, ODEM is fine with being copied on messages from the city to the county so they know what will be coming and can get prepared.? Specifically what Doug Jimenez stated is that based on?ORS 401, OEM can only work with the county, UNLESS the county is unable to, or unwilling to respond to an emergency.?

2. Don't get overwhelmed by the lists of tasks.? To summarize those tasks, in preparation for the exercise, the EC will need to determine what is a likely scenario in their county that will require activation.? That can be done by personal knowledge and experience, by reviewing the county emergency plan, or by discussions with emergency management.? The second thing the EC will need to do is to determine whether there are any tasks they need to complete locally within their county and ideally, identify a performance objective to show whether or not the task was completed successfully.

I will be providing some additional documents.? Half of my active group in Polk County is fairly new to ham radio so I will be distributing a document that shows the steps to make sure the forms are updated on the WinLink station and looking up the correct forms for the exercise.

Winlink to SMS Gateway

 

Good Evening,
??? Michael Phelps (NA7Q)? has created a Winlink to SMS gateway. He lives over on the west side of Oregon. He wants us to give it a try.

In Winlink send an email to: KE7DOV@...
In the subject line enter the phone number you want to send the message to.
In the body, Just type what you want to send.

This will work both ways. If you want to send a message to a call sign, just send a text to 503-994-1970.
In the message you need to do a @callsign then the message. Something like this.
@W7BL This is only a test.
