Echolink IRLP 4
I am not much of an Echolink user, only using it on my phone. Recently I got the bug to control the repeater via RF using Echolink DTMF commands, but not having any luck. Then it occurred to me that perhaps the repeater is not set up to do that , but only through Echolink programs (windows or phone). Do you guys know?

K6FB packet identity changes
From our website (updated just a minute ago): K6FB Packet Changes: We are updating and reconfiguring our K6FB packet system on 145.050 MHz to improve and standardize services: The packet antenna is lower but has a much better SWR than before The packet mailbox is now K6FB-1 and is no longer K6FB-2 The digipeater is now K6FB and is no longer K6FB-1 The Node is now ROCK and is no longer K6FB-7 (this is an allusion to Castle ROCK State Park location) There is now a new K-NET node which is KROCK (alias from K6FB-5). You can use KROCK to teleport around the state and beyond! (this is a new feature) We will keep you updated on any future changes. As of today's writing (July 22, 2024) these are believed to be final

K6FB: recent upgrades
Folks - Skip and I spent a few hours at the shack today working on some upgrades. On the list of accomplishments today: () Windows PC (used for controller programming) and also the wireless router got SW updates. () K6FB packet antenna was taken out of service (left in a tree for now), and replacement antenna was mounted on the roof of the shack. We are asking for performance reports, hoping that this is a significant improvement. As a reminder, the old antenna/feedline had failed - it looks lossy like water ingress, flat 4:1 SWR. () KD6UCA Winlink gateway was upgraded to add a VaraFM port. Luckily, the antenna that BryanO found to run the first VHF-only gateway has a nice resonance at 70cm... So we configured that port to sit on an EmComm-allocated digital channel – 433.450MHz. The key purpose in this is to support Los Gatos / Monte Sereno EmComm... Secondarily, it should offer a very fast Winklink interface to most of the valley and maybe even into San Lorenzo and Santa Cruz. I'll check in with some SCZ folks to see if they can hit it. If you are interested in digital modes for sending messages, please reach out to me - I'd love to get you going in this. K6FB gets an upgrade - AllStar Link node is live
K6FB supporters and hams, === Summary ======================== K6FB linked repeater system now includes AllStar Link. We are node 60268. This came by two key changes to the shack: (1) Las Cumbres is sharing it’s new high speed internet connection with the shack via a fiber connection that runs from the community center. (2) We made use of the second repeater controller to extend the system to include not only the existing 2m, 1.25m, 70cm repeaters along with this new AllStar Link node. The new functionality will allow: () Members can join nets when traveling or otherwise unable to get on the radio. () Any AllStarLInk user can use DTMF controls to connect their local node (or repeater connected to an existing node) to our node. As an example, the K6BJ repeater in Santa Cruz is often connected to ours, as those hams quickly found that we connected our node. === Details ========================== This project has been in the works for months. For those of you who have been waiting for this functionality, I apologize for the wait. To connect to the node over the internet: (1) Sign up for an AllStar Link account here: https://www.allstarlink.org/portal/register.php (2) Download an application for your smartphone or computer: iPhone: “RepeaterPhone” works well for me https://repeaterphone.com/ https://transceive.app/ (3) Connect to a node (this is really a VoIP phone call), look for “K6FB” or node 60268 When this connects successfully, you will hear a voice announcement that your node has connected to the K6FB node. As with any project, it’s never quite done. Here is a list of fine-tuning type items on our to-do list: () Replace real time clock batteries in both controllers. () Tune the 2m RX level into the repeater system (audio is a little low compared to the other receivers). () Add a second serial port connection to the second controller from the on-site PC to allow remote programming of both controllers. () Tune the programming of timers and tones. I notice it takes ~2sec to bring up the 2m machine when I key up the 70m side; annoying and must be fixable. There should be no announcements nor courtesy tones on the ASL node. () Document the work and share with K6FB leadership and make available at the shack. Feel free to reach out to me with questions or comments on this. Given that many areas of the ride have little or no phone coverage, we need a variety of radio operators for roles including: - Net Control at Foothill College - Communications from rest stops ("Break Priority, running low on Oreos!") - SAG vehicles ("SAG 7, can you pick up a rider with a broken bike in La Honda...") We also need SAG drivers. I used to do this with my wife, she would communicate and I would drive, you get to see great scenery and help raise money for some local charities. (And I'd do it again if I hadn't been drafted as SAG captain.) You can also practice your deployment skills by setting up your gear in a SAG driver's car and help direct them while they keep their eyes on the road. Service: K6FB-2m & 1.25m off the air Sunday AM
Folks - in working on the repeaters to connect up the AllStarLink node, I need to take them offline to reconfigure some settings in the controller hardware. For this, I’ll be taking them offline for a few hours this morning. I’m reachable by cell here at the shack at the number below.
