ARISS Slow Scan TV Transmissions Begin Tuesday October 8th

ARISS Slow Scan TV Transmissions Begin Tuesday

ARISS is planning a Slow Scan Television (SSTV) experiment from the International Space Station, scheduled to start on Tuesday, October 8, at 16:00 GMT and running until Monday, October 14, at 14:10 GM

There will be an interruption on Friday, October 11, for planned school contacts over Europe.

?The transmission frequency will be 145.800 MHz FM, using SSTV mode?PD120. The ISS callsign will be?RS0ISS.

?The SSTV transmissions will be made using the station in the Russian ISS Service Module. The equipment used is a Kenwood?D710?transceiver running about 25 watts output which provides a very strong signal enabling reception using simple equipment. Images received by amateurs world-wide during previous transmissions can be seen at http://www.spaceflightsoftware.com/ARISS_SSTV.

?Amateurs can receive the SSTV pictures directly from the space station by connecting the audio output of their two-meter transceiver via a simple interface to the soundcard on a Windows PC or an Apple iOS device. On Windows PC’s the free application?MMSSTV?can be used to decode the signal, on Apple iOS devices you can use the SSTV app for compatible modes. For Linux systems try?QSSTV.

?The ISS puts out a strong signal so even a?2M?handheld with a 1/4 wave antenna will be enough to receive it but one's chances of success are significantly improved with the use of a handheld beam antenna. The FM transmission uses 5 kHz deviation which is standard in much of the world. Many FM rigs can be switched been wide and narrow deviation FM filters. For best results you should select the filter for wider deviation FM. Handhelds all seem to have a single wide filter fitted as standard. [It's also useful to open the squelch before the pass begins to capture the weak part of the signal during the satellite rise.]

?Reports are requested: please send ARISS uploading your decoded pictures in the official ARISS SSTV gallery: https://www.spaceflightsoftware.com/ARISS_SSTV/
?Useful information to receive the pictures can be found here at?https://amsat-uk.org/beginners/iss-sstv/
?Follow ARISS on X for official updates during the event?https://x.com/ARISS_Intl.

?[ANS thanks ARISS and AMSAT-UK for the above information.]

CARC D-STAR TESTS CONTINUE THROUGH OCTOBER

Hi everyone,

If you have a D-STAR radio, we invite you to join us on Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. for a quick test of the new CARC D-STAR repeater. We anticipate making a few adjustments in repeater settings and would appreciate a few test signals to verify performance and coverage.

Our repeater operates in Mixed Mode - FM Analog and D-STAR. Our Drive Home Net operates from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in traditional FM Analog. Join us there if you have time. This will, also, allow to compare performance between the two modes.

The Drive Home Net operates every Tuesday except for the 4th Tuesday, which is our monthly meeting night. The D-STAR tests continue after the Drive Home Nets through October, with no tests on the 4th Tuesday.

FM Analog settings:
441.875 MHz, PLUS OFFSET (5 MHz), PL=131.8 Hz

D-STAR settings:
441.875 MHz, PLUS OFFSET (5 MHz) -- DR mode
Set for Local Mode -- CQCQCQ
Set RPT1 as N5CXX..B (replace periods with spaces)
RPT2 is NOT USED; some radios or software require something in this field, so use N5CXX..B or N5CXX..G (again, replace the periods with spaces)

The N5CXX D-STAR repeater operates only in local mode at this time. There is no Gateway. We hope to have a connection to the D-STAR network in early 2025.

Collins ARC Mixed Mode Test of D-STAR tonight (Sept. 10th)

Hi all,

The Collins Amateur Radio Club of Richardson has a new Icom repeater configured for Mixed Mode -- FM Analog and D-STAR.

Our weekly Drive Home Net, using FM Analog, will be held tonight (Sept. 10th) from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.. Following the Net, at approximately 6 p.m., we will conduct a brief test of the repeater's D-STAR capability. If you are equipped for D-STAR, we invite to take a few minutes and join in the test. Here's the info on the repeater.

FM Analog:
441.875 PLUS 5MHz, PL=131.8 Hz

D-STAR
441.875 PLUS 5MHZ
Use CQ CQ CQ for Local Call
RPT1= N5CXX B
Gateway NOT USED
If necessary, setup RPT2 as N5CXX G

Tonight's NCS for the Drive Home Net is Kerry, K5WKS. The D-STAR test will be conducted by Frank, KR1ZAN.

We will operate the repeater for a few months exclusively in LOCAL until we get our Gateway established and announce when we are of the world-wide D-STAR Network.

We hope you can join us.
