THE SERVERS HAVE BEEN SPOKEN FOR... Thanks! - [WAS - Cleaning out the garage - not ham related... well maybe since I'm a ham]
Someone has stepped up and claimed all of the servers. Thanks Mike Dooley N5BGZ ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Mike Dooley <msdooley@...> Sent: Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 09:00:34 PM CST Subject: Cleaning out the garage - not ham related... well maybe since I'm a ham
Folks, This is not ham equipment, but most of us are techy types (like me) and interested in this stuff.? So I thought I would offer these here first. A number of years before I retired I bought some HP Proliant DL380G7 servers and had my own server farm at the house.? This was used when I wanted to experiment with virtual machines under vmWare Hypervisor (ESXi), Red Hat and Ubuntu.? But….? I’m retired now and they are taking up room in the garage. I fired them all up and installed ubuntu on them (22.04) and here are the details: Server 1 2 x Xeon E5630 (4 cores each for 8 cores total) 32G RAM 8 x 146G hard drives? Server 2 2 x Xeon L5640 (6 cores each for 12 cores total) 64G RAM 8 x 146G hard drives? Server 3 2 x Xeon X5560 (4 cores each for 8 cores total) 72G RAM 8 x 146G? Server 4 2 x Xeon X5560 (4 cores each for 8 cores total) 72G RAM 8 x 146G hard drives? ? Server 1, 3 and 4 have the drives configured as one (or two) large drives.? Server 2 has 2 of the drives as RAID 1/0 and the rest as spares. Server 1 is missing a power supply but I have a couple extra I will include with it… ? not sure if they will work, but it runs fine on a single supply. Attached is a picture of the stack of servers.? Only the 4 servers are available.? The rest of the stack, the USB stick and USB WiFi dongle I am keeping. All servers are FREE to whomever wants one or all of them.? Local only.? I don’t want to ship them. Contact me direct at msdooley@... so we can arrange pickup. Thanks for reading this. Mike Dooley N5BGZ |

ARLB003 Senate Bill S.3690 Introduced to Eliminate Private Land Use Restrictions on Amateur Radio
SB QST @ ARL $ARLB003
ARLB003 Senate Bill S.3690 Introduced to Eliminate Private Land Use Restrictions on Amateur Radio ZCZC AG03 QST de W1AW ARRL Bulletin 3 ARLB003 From ARRL Headquarters Newington CT February 15, 2024 To all radio amateurs SB QST ARL ARLB003 ARLB003 Senate Bill S.3690 Introduced to Eliminate Private Land Use Restrictions on Amateur Radio On January 30, 2024, US Senators Roger Wicker (MS) and Richard Blumenthal (CT) introduced S.3690, the Senate companion bill to H.R.4006, introduced last June. Both bills reflect the Congressional campaign efforts by the ARRL to eliminate homeowner association land use restrictions that prohibit, restrict, or impair the ability of an Amateur Radio Operator to install and operate amateur station antennas on residential properties they own. The text of bill S.3690 can be found at, . Amateur Radio Operators repeatedly are relied upon to provide essential communications when disaster strikes, but their ability to do so is being impaired by the exponential growth of residential private land use restrictions that hinder their ability to establish stations in their homes with which to train and provide emergency communications when called upon. In announcing the introduction of S.3690, Senator Wicker said: "Because communication during natural disasters is often hindered, we should be making every attempt to give folks more options. Reliable access can make the difference between life and death in an emergency. Our legislation removes roadblocks for amateur radio operators looking to help their friends, families, and neighbors." In a similar announcement, Senator Blumenthal stated: "Our measure will help clarify the rules so ham radio enthusiasts can successfully continue their communications. In the face of emergency or crisis, they help provide vital, life-saving information that allow listeners to properly and safely respond, but prohibitive home association rules and confusing approval processes for installing antennas have been an unnecessary impediment. The Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act resolves these bottlenecks and ensures that radio operators can function successfully." ARRL President Rick Roderick, K5UR, and Director John Robert Stratton, N5AUS, Chair of the ARRL's Government Affairs Committee, both extended on behalf of ARRL, its Members, and the Amateur Radio community their thanks and appreciation for the leadership of Senator Wicker and Senator Blumenthal in their continuing efforts to support and protect the rights of all Amateur Radio Operators. Working the ISS
开云体育? Hi all, A topic for discussion on last week's GARC Info Net was "Have you ever worked the ISS?". ?I gave out information about the traditional frequencies used to communicate with the ISS. Things change; and, the crew now chats with Earth-bound hams using the cross-band repeater on the ISS. For more information, check out the ARISS News article below from the AMSAT News Service.? 73, Frank KR1ZAN Garland, TX -------------------- ARISS NewsAmateurs and others around the world may listen in on contacts between amateurs operating in schools and allowing students to interact with astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station. The downlink frequency on which to listen is 145.800 MHz worldwide. No contacts have been scheduled?from 2023-12-21 to 2024-01-14. The complete schedule page has been updated as of 2023-12-21 05:00 UTC. The Service Module radio is temporarily stowed. As always, if there is an EVA, a docking, or an undocking; the ARISS radios are turned off as part of the safety protocol. The crossband repeater continues to be active (145.990 MHz up {PL 67} & 437.800 MHz down),? If any crewmember is so inclined, all they have to do is pick up the microphone, raise the volume up, and talk on the crossband repeater. So give a listen, you just never know. Note, all times are approximate. It is recommended that you do your own orbital prediction or start listening about 10 minutes before the listed time. ?[You can get a listing of passes for ISS and other amateur radio satellites at?? Here's a good presentation slide-deck by Sean Kutzko, KX9X to help beginners in working ham sats ?There's, also, lots more info at amsat.org under Educational Resources.] The latest information on the operation mode can be found at? The latest list of frequencies in use can be found at? [ANS thanks Charlie Sufana, AJ9N, one of the ARISS operation team mentors for the above information] |
