Prosperity Bank Meeting
Tim, Anthony and BJ, we are good for meeting at Prosperity Bank on Thursday morning at 9:00. BJ, I've attached the contact information for Danny Hernandez. He will be our contact for Thursday. Since you are the new assignee for the account Danny has asked that you fill out the attached ID form and send it before we meet. That will speed things up on Thursday. Tim and Anthony, we just need to bring our drivers' licenses.

Repeater Summary
11
Hi Everyone, I'm back in town and was ready to fix the system as of last night however Allen had no techs available so it waited until this morning. Here's the repair summary. (minus D-Star) It appears that any power supply turned on was affected, a short diagnosis showed arcing behavior in the back of one supply, meaning our surge came in via electrical path, this is further shown by the one PSU that was off surviving. I have replaced all the power supplies with a single power supply, this supply has a 6 way fused breakout using as much existing cabling as possible to prevent having to modify it again when proper power supplies are reinstalled. While I have not managed to test the APRS or packet systems yet those radios are on and checking SWR on the VHF antenna showed no issues with expected wattage on the path. Does anyone have questions for me? I'll look to be replacing these supplies with identical versions if they still exist otherwise we can look at a different solution for the permanent fix. Fred has also been notified the site is operational as Plano will want to know, he was also unaware that I didn't have a key for the D-Star cabinet, when I get access we can resolve power on that system as well. More battery power info

Images attached of Jerry's setup. Sound like you'r charging setup is working just fine. I usuallly let the charge taper down to 1-2 amps. I actually have mine on a timer. On at 8am and off at 9p. Once the battery is charged up to the set voltage on your charger it won't take anymore so if you adjust the charger (PS) to a good value you can't overcharge. Putting on the timer takes it all off line when you go to bed so you don't have to worry about it during the night. Yes...10 amp charger needs at least a 20 amp diode. Even at 10 amps a 20 amp diode will get warm. I use 40 and 50amp for I have plenty of wiggle room. Check ebay for solar blocking diodes. diode you show is fine. Most are rated for at least 50volts so that's not an issue. Have fun. Repeaters
4
Hi Anthony, That's correct, we do, Kip is also thinking we have insurance for this type of thing, can we confirm we have it and what the limits are? This could be quite expensive if we get in to repeater modules and controllers. I just happen to be at an icom dealer and can pick up a module before heading back to Dallas today, I have lots of UHF modules so only need the VHF. Miranda

Repeatera

Hi Board members, Early this morning the K5PRK repeaters stopped working during a skywarn operation, upon inspection today it is determined that the power supplies running the site have been destroyed, probably by lightning. Recovery is underway though the resolution path is unclear at the moment as I am out of town, due back in later tonight. I will keep the board updated as repair moves along. Miranda

Here's a rough draft for promoting club committees. ========= What is you're interest in Ham Radio? The club offers many ways to apply your interests immediately. Whether it be ragchewing and conversing with other hams on a regular "net" or Event organization? Helping to plan our club's Field Day deployment. Managing people? You can help organize and manage public service events. Do you love detail work and can help maintain the club's repeater systems? Finding topics and speakers of interest to help program the club meetings? Good talking to the public? Can you help outreach to new hams in the area, or newly licensed hams? Maybe you're into digital modes? Or CW? Or contesting? Building go-kits? You can use the K5PRK meetings and mailing list to connect with others And board members welcome assistance - Anthony Burokas General Class Ham (KB3DVS) VP: Plano Amateur Radio Klub 每 http://k5prk.net 25-year video producer 〞 IEBA.com On 2/18/25 12:29 PM, Tim K5TCJ wrote:

fiberglass

Oh, like a windsock pole? They can be useful for a slim-jim. I have one of those and yes, barely able to hold up a just a THIN coax-fed dipole, and a real challenge to guy it without making a specialized solution (although that _is_ possible.) But not really worth it for 25 feet. I have a Hastings Hot Stick I got back when I was in PA, nearly 20 years ago. 35 feet, (they go past 50) and each section has a push-button lock. Non-conductive but thick fiberglass. Would be a great solution - if they didn't cost a fortune. https://www.jharlen.com/p-11746-hastings-40ft-tel-o-pole-fiberglass-hot-stick-st-240.aspx Anthony Burokas General Class Ham (KB3DVS) VP: Plano Amateur Radio Klub 每 http://k5prk.net 25-year video producer 〞 IEBA.com On 2/19/25 7:47 PM, Tim Johnson K5TCJ via groups.io wrote:

I have a lymphoma cancer. Shocking but I hadn't felt well for a few months. I had the first chemo cycle in the hospital and came home Tuesday. I will have the chemo every 3 weeks for 5 more times. Scans will be done to check. I actually don't feel too bad, just resting. You can let the board know or if anyone asks. 73 & 88 Neil

NWS
It was not humor. I apologize if it came across that way, as it was not my intent. I see nothing humorous about what is happening. It was sincere concern that I had not heard form the NWS, in months. Each day brings news of another federal department that faithfully serve everyday Americans being decimated. The shutting down message is a fact of life right now. The e-mail I received form the NWS clearly indicates they are also concerned about being here next month. Nothing about what is being done to America is humorous, or positive, in any way, to me. If it came across as humor, it may have been because I was trying to overcompensate to not feel shut down and decimated myself by what I see going on. As this is not the place, I'll keep my personal worries and how this is affecting my family, to myself. NWS presentation for Plano Amateur Radio Klub

Last night I noted that I had not heard form the NWS in several months and was concerned that, with the employee firings throughout the federal departments, the NWS may have already been affected, specifically as it is one of Project 2025's goals to break up NOAA, and get rid of the NWS. I received confirmation of their concern about still being here as well, but yet still continued commitment to serve, barring being shut down before then. So February is still the NWS, but I'll have a backup in my pocket if the NWS gets cancelled and sent home, like the 3,400 Forestry Service workers.
