NWS presentation for Plano Amateur Radio Klub
2
Last night I noted that I had not heard form the NWS in several months and was concerned that, with the employee firings throughout the federal departments, the NWS may have already been affected, specifically as it is one of Project 2025's goals to break up NOAA, and get rid of the NWS. I received confirmation of their concern about still being here as well, but yet still continued commitment to serve, barring being shut down before then. So February is still the NWS, but I'll have a backup in my pocket if the NWS gets cancelled and sent home, like the 3,400 Forestry Service workers. The Irving Amateur Radio Club, Inc. 2025 Hamfest is less than two weeks away on Saturday, March 1st. It will be held at the Betcha Bingo Hall and advance ticket sales are progressing nicely - we are on track to selling out all our available tables in the next few days (we have fewer than 5 table spaces remaining). We have some great door prize bundles available (avg value about $400/each), and a great "Bakers Bundle" which is four 3-packs of additional door prize tickets along with one admission ticket for $20. There will also be a special bundle of door-prize only tickets for $20, which gives you 15 additional door-prize tickets, but it will only be available at the door. Fw: [Special] [ARRLNTX] The HOA Friendly Amateur Radio Emergency Services Bill SM049 每 Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act
FYI, if interested. Johnnie KG5CQO ________________________________________ From: [email protected] <[email protected]> on behalf of Steven Lott Smith KG5VK ARRL NTX SM via groups.io <lottsphoto@...> Sent: Monday, February 17, 2025 9:50 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [Special] [ARRLNTX] The HOA Friendly Amateur Radio Emergency Services Bill SM049 每 Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act First off this Bill would not even be where it is so far without our ARRL Division Director John Robert Stratton N5AUS He has spent countless hours working on this with Congress and the staff of several member of Congress Most of it in person in Washington DC utilizing Lobbying Funds provided by the ARRL as well as his own funds. Mr. Stratton is a Volunteer, just like I am. If you are thinking how can you help see this legislation move forward### SM049 每 Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act Re-Introduced February 11, 2025 Legislation Will Increase Communication Options During Natural Disasters WASHINGTON 每 U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Richard Blumenthal, D- Conn., and Representatives August Pfluger, R-Tex., and Joe Courtney, D-Conn. announced their joint re-introduction of legislation in the Senate and House to restore the right to Amateur Radio operators to install the antennas necessary to serve their communities. Here in Oklahoma, we ask all amateur radio clubs and individuals to visit https://ok.arrl.org/hoa/. This page has all of our contact information and template letters. Please note that all letters should be sent to the email and address listed. Letters emailed to legislators tend to get lost in the cleansing process. ARRL will aggregate these letters and deliver them directly to our senators and representatives. If you don*t live in an HOA, please complete a letter to make sure those in the HOAs will be there to contact you. Please fill out the letters as soon as possible. Follow the instructions on that Oklahoma page closely Please do not send printed or emailed letters direct to your representatives, this is because Mr. Stratton plans on delivering the large stack of documents to the respective members of congress to visually show the demand from their constituents. This is a much more powerful method that a few hundred or even thousand emails getting filtered in an inbox and someone later over looks. Again this is currently just a Bill, we need it to become Law. For many of us in the Rural areas this Bill does not mean much to us. However, for many North Texans that need to live in the more densely populated Metro areas This Bill becoming Law means a great deal. Ask questions here or direct by email to myself KG5VK@...<mailto:KG5VK@...> Please use the Oklahoma Section website for reference https://ok.arrl.org/hoa/ You can also send your feedback and or letters direct to myself and I will get them to Mr. Stratton Or bring Printed statements to your next club next club meeting or Saturday Morning breakfast. I am sure your Club Officers will get them to me, be sure to use the layouts provided on the Oklahoma Section website. Cheers! Steve KG5VK ARRLNTX Section Manager

Field Day HF Kit power supply
3
I know it was approved months ago, but I finally made it to HRO and got a power supply for the second HF kit we deploy for Field day. Recap: We have two Icom 718 Radios, antenna tuners, power supplies and laptops in two padded plastic tubs that we use for Field Day HF operation. Last year one of the radios was having problems and after Field day I did some testing. I found that if the radio was used over about 45w, the power supply would just die. I checked internal fuses and such, and all was okay. Not being a component level engineer, I brought it up at a board meeting where it was approved to purchase a replacement. I finally did that. A 30-amp switching, no meters, for $109.95. No tax. I will test the new power supply with the radio kit this weekend and bring the receipt to the next general meeting for reimbursement. -- Anthony Burokas General Class Ham (KB3DVS) VP: Plano Amateur Radio Klub 每 http://k5prk.net 25-year video producer 〞 IEBA.com

Board meeting minutes ?
In researching something, I went looking for the board meeting minutes. On GroupsIO files, the board has minutes from 2024 January, Feb, March, April, May, July, and then an additional folder for November & December. June, August, September, October are missing. I then cross referenced Ham Club Online. Which does not have a folder for minutes. But in Newsletters and Communications, I found February 3, 2025 Board meeting Minutes. Nothing form 2024. Files was last updated in 2019. The website has newsletters uploaded every month. No minutes. The last content, other than newsletters, that was uploaded on the website was photos of Sam, Dick, and Tim for updating the Officers page, in January of 2024. It still hasn't been updated with the 50 Years and Counting updated logo. The Anniversary dinner was July 2023. Thus concludes my observations. -- Anthony Burokas General Class Ham (KB3DVS) VP: Plano Amateur Radio Klub 每 http://k5prk.net 25-year video producer 〞 IEBA.com

[K5PRK] PARK Generic Newsletter for marketing.
5
With the discussion of newsletters, and of marketing the club - possibly mailing something to new hams... Is it possible to put together a generic 4-page newsletter that we can have available at the meeting, and also use as possible mailer, per Tim's idea, for new hams as part of a "welcome to hamming" kit? The reason I say 4-page is because that is a single 11x17 sheet folded in half. Much like my interim newsletter for January. https://k5prk.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/K5PRK-January-2025-Newsletter.pdf It can talk about regular meetings in general, and highlight some regulars - Field Day planning, Annual club auction, Plano balloon festival, annual holiday party, as well as programs on antennas, new radio releases, and other areas of interest to anyone with curiosity about the world around them. It can also include more information about our regular activities, the 2- meter net, Skywarn net, foxhunting, hospital net, involvement with Meals on Wheels, Dallas Marathon, Turkey Trot, and a few more. A general introduction letter from the president, a generalized meeting minutes not really too time specific, A few photos from meetings, as well as regular meeting information, General amateur radio info, and a list of some monthly contests ad operating events. Ham class info, if any is available, and a note about pre-meeting testing before our meetings. to be licensed. Basically an activity sheet that one would be interested in holding on to for the nets schedule, and a years' worth of contests. Basically it's an Ad for ham radio, the club, and our meetings. With a little bit of date-specific information: future contests for 2025, and PARK meeting dates. These could also be sent to local high school science teachers, libraries, etc. Anthony Burokas General Class Ham (KB3DVS) VP: Plano Amateur Radio Klub 每 http://k5prk.net 25-year video producer 〞 IEBA.com

Business Cards
3
Does the club have business cards? I'm just sorting through a drawer full of cards I've collected through the years and found that I have a few from Lake Area. They'd be handy to give to new members, slip into windshield wipers of cars we see, hand out during a conversation. -- Anthony Burokas General Class Ham (KB3DVS) VP: Plano Amateur Radio Klub 每 http://k5prk.net 25-year video producer 〞 IEBA.com

local reaching out
3
The recent thread with the ARRL membership, and discussing the club's much more precipitous membership dip makes me want to revisit the local outreach we did recently. Personally I find it hard to believe that 600+ things were mailed out to local hams and we got 1 person to come? That's more dismal than the typical marketing return of around 5%-10% which should have netted us 30 to 60 responses. Where did that address list come from? Can a fresh list be acquired again? What was sent out? I think it was a postcard, but I don't think I have a copy of it to look it over and see what the call to action was. And the cost was? My first thoughts would be, if we were paying for first class, then did we send a letter? Because picking up on Tim's thought, a personal invitation is going be more effective than a "marketing postcard" Given the status of the club membership, and the outlook vs. our other membership outreach programs (none at the moment) I'd like to revisit the idea of a mailer, but I need to know what didn't work, to have an idea of what not to do.
