local reaching out
The recent thread with the ARRL membership, and discussing the club's much more precipitous membership dip makes me want to revisit the local outreach we did recently.
Personally I find it hard to believe that 600+ things were mailed out to local hams and we got 1 person to come? That's more dismal than the typical marketing return of around 5%-10% which should have netted us 30 to 60 responses. Where did that address list come from? Can a fresh list be acquired again? What was sent out? I think it was a postcard, but I don't think I have a copy of it to look it over and see what the call to action was. And the cost was? My first thoughts would be, if we were paying for first class, then did we send a letter? Because picking up on Tim's thought, a personal invitation is going be more effective than a "marketing postcard" Given the status of the club membership, and the outlook vs. our other membership outreach programs (none at the moment) I'd like to revisit the idea of a mailer, but I need to know what didn't work, to have an idea of what not to do. I've done some back and forth with N5UIG who said he was a member since 91 but hasn't been to a meeting in awhile however did renew his dues this year.?? That was a completely accidental contact when trying to sort out a repeater frequency question and just that little bit may cause him to get to meetings again now.

Unrelated to the subject line but related to both him and us; I asked if he had any contact for the Allen IT group who runs the optical and wireless connectivity at the water tower. ? He asked one of them he knows and they said that kind of integration is highly unlikely to happen as they don't? want an unregulated endpoint on their network, it does make sense even though there are ways around it. Unfortunately it sounds like they are closed to thoughts about how to accomplish it so we will have to look at connectivity from elsewhere.? It's possible we can grab connectivity off the wireless network and fall back to the DSL circuit if it has issues but I need to get an answer back from MCP first, hopefully in the next couple weeks. ?
This is what I'm talking about.? ?
?
The postcard with information about PARK and an invitation to come to our meetings, that went out early last year, was based on a list of licensees in adjacent zip codes, obtained from the
ARRL.
?
I would imagine the only new names on that list now, would be new licensees.? Instead of sending out a big blast again, perhaps we can start reviewing for and targeting new licensees.? Let¡¯s discuss
this and other outreach ideas at the next Board meeting, with our PR Director taking the lead.
