Congratulations and Welcome
I think we*re all on this mailing list now. Congratulations to returning board members, and congratulations and welcome to new board members. In the boards groups.io group, please take a look at your convenience, the FILES section. Each board member (including the Field Day coordinator) has their own folder (aptly named) for files and documents pertinent to your position. Here you will find older documents and should keep future documents and files. Feel free to Feel free to look around and familiarize yourself with what all we have collected here, and to organize your folder and you see fit. Should you find something in your folder that you think should be in a different director*s folder, please coordinate that with that director. Any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask. 73, Tim

I will most likely not be at the meeting. My dad is improving but may be moving to another place on Tuesday. I emailed my proxy today. I bet though that someone moves to accept the slate by acclimation. :) 73 Neil

Holiday party gifts 2
I've recently added a little led flashlight light to my collection. it's a magnetic light that I lassoed to my belt. So it's always within reach and merely grabbing the magnetic light and pulling it out of the base turns it on, so it's on as fast as I grab it. It also recharges via USB. And it's kind of a fidget device too, with the magnet that yanks it back into the holder. I think something like this (doesn't have to be this one, would be a nice alternative to little radios for the holiday giveaways. https://amzn.to/48u05UJ -- Anthony Burokas General Class Ham (KB3DVS) VP: Plano Amateur Radio Klub 每 http://k5prk.net 25-year video producer 〞 IEBA.com

2025 Field Day newsletter
Sorry Neil, I meant to post this this to the board In light of the hurricanes in Florida and the likely increase in the number and severity of weather incidents, it seems reasonable to add emergency preparedness to our Field Day in 2025. Ham Radio is relevant and in does have a role to play in regional disaster assistance. The Hurricane Tracking Center in Miami broadcasts on 40 and 20 meters so HF is not just viable, it's relevant. If power is off, then HF may be the only way to send civilian messages outside the disaster area. Take a look at these articles that Tim and Dick posted: https://www.wired.com/story/hurricane-helene-milton-north-carolina-florida-amateur-radio/ https://www.radioworld.com/news-and-business/headlines/ham-radio-operators-assemble-ahead-of-hurricane-milton So, perhaps PARK could make its Field Day mission more about the role we as Hams can fulfill in an emergency. In preparation for this year, I'd like to propose that we begin reaching out the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the City of Plano to integrate and participate in our Field Day to prepare PARK to take on an emergency role if we are needed.

Repeater Internet Connectivity Discussion 5
I wanted to open a discussion regarding internet capability at the repeater site. I forget what the internet status is for our system. I recall it's painfully slow and expensive. I know we've discussed it, but these discussions aren't archived in a document tracking status and progress on different ideas, I wanted to start over in a place where it's at least archived and searchable (here on the e-mail list). (1) What is the provider now? Data rate & cost? I think part of the issue is the static IP we need for remote access? Would Dynamic DNS help? (2) There was discussion of being provisioned part of the fast fiber coming in to the tower for other services. What is the status of that? (3) If Dynamic DNS is a possible solution, then it opens up internet connectivity solutions. The next time we have several people at the tower, we should take cell phones out and do a cell survey in the tower with the door closed, Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, does anything get inside with a decent signal. I attempted to improve our internet about a year ago and every option was much more expensive. Maybe this time we can put together a list of options and their cost and have a discussion at a board meeting. Also, I think that PARK has hit a home run with our new Communications Director! Thanks, Miranda for your insights and expertise. Once the election is past we can go over what is at the Prestige Water Tower, how to get access, the document with device information, etc. Thanks, Dick Dick On Mon, Oct 7, 2024 at 8:45 PM Tim Johnson K5TCJ via groups.io <k5tcj@...> wrote: Maranda, Dick, Thanks for taking a few minutes to look at the K5PRK-10 packet node. Today I discovered and banned 24 fake Facebook accounts that were admitted to the PARK group on Facebook. Every one of thee profiles had a name repeated twice, a photo of a young girl, and they were a member of the group. I didn't admit them, so I don't know how they became members. I didn't see any "automated" help to admit them. IDEA 〞 New Member Liaison. 2
Driving around today, I thought of a new member I met at one meeting, and then can't recall seeing them again. That got me to thinking that it's a missed opportunity with new members, or even guests, interested people, coming to a meeting, and us not immediately getting their information and following up - making them feel valued, that we are interested in them. As opposed to them being interested in us, which they are, or else they wouldn't have shown up. They did half, now we have to reciprocate the interest or they feel we don't care. If there was a new member liaison - someone already usually at every meeting, who would be tasked with meeting new people, shake their hands, have an initial conversation with to get their information and permission to e-mail them after the meeting. Secretary doing sign-in? The President leading the meeting? Find out where they live, what their interests are and then pair them up with an Elmer in the club - whether it be local communication, assisting with events, emergency preparedness, digital modes, contesting, CW, whatever. Part of this is the idea that the club ALSO has an ongoing dialog with its members and knows who in the club really likes and participates in this, or that, to be able to make the appropriate connection. And then the new member liaison would follow up in a few weeks, inform about the next meeting, nightly nets, HF nets, etc, Again establishing the club's interest in the potential new member. -- Anthony Burokas General Class Ham (KB3DVS) VP: Plano Amateur Radio Klub 每 http://k5prk.net 25-year video producer 〞 IEBA.com

So you have preparedness groups, suppliers, boy scouts coming in for ham radio badge or camping setup, red cross talking CPR and home emergency kits, TBM talk about volunteering, fire departments covering smoke detectors having a home evacuation plan, and expanding out from there, CERT, Skywarn, etc. Schedule certain talks and presentations throughout the afternoon, and then again Sunday morning, All the while, Ham Radio ops are doing field day, and inviting the public to learn more, even give it a try. This to try and expose ham radio to a much wider audience than it currently gets exposed to right now. What would your thoughts on this be? As we approach North Texas Giving Day on September 19, I wanted to reach out to our incredible volunteer community. BEST of Texas Robotics is committed to providing life-changing STEAM experiences for students, many of whom come from Title 1 schools where resources are limited. This year, we need your support for a special cause〞Feed the Future Innovators during our upcoming State Championship. Click to give https://rb.gy/741i19 For many of these students, the cost of transportation and lodging is already a challenge. Often, this leaves little to no funds for meals, and teachers end up covering the costs themselves. That*s why we*ve launched the Feed the Future Innovators initiative to ensure no student goes without a meal during our two-day event. We are aiming to feed 2,500 students over the course of two days, and every $15 donation feeds a student for the day. How You Can Help: Donate on North Texas Giving Day: Every dollar counts. Your contribution will directly support meals for students and alleviate the burden on their teachers. Click to give https://rb.gy/741i19 Executive Director Match: Any donations made before September 15 will be matched, up to $1,000, doubling the impact of your gift to ensure our students are well-fed and focused on their competition.
