147.180 Repeater
Ron, Thanks for the heads up. I will look into it. While the heat may be a factor, we had a power issue two weekends ago that may have affected the output power on the repeater. I will see what we can find. Dick

PARK Repeater Power Issues
Dick, First, let me say I appreciate you taking care of this. It seems to be an issue we're having trouble getting to work right so you don't have to keep making these trips, but I appreciate that you are making these trips and handling it. I want to clarify - when you got to the tower, was there AC power? Was the UPS not passing AC power to our gear? Is this after the purchase of the new battery sled? Because the way I read this is: There was a power loss for several hours. ? 〞 I thought the water tower had a backup generator that kicks in after a couple minutes? Our UPS ran off the new battery sled until it ran completely out of power. but When power was restored, possibly after a few minutes, the UPS did _not_ accept the AC power and continued to run off the battery. The battery died. Only with manually removing the UPS was AC power restored to the system. Is that an accurate assessment? I'm not drawing a conclusion. I just want to better understand what you found when you got there, and what it took to get our repeater back online. UHF Repeater? 4
A question to anyone available on the board. I the club's UHF repeater fully up and functional? Has it been reliably up and running for a while? I have heard the club and frequency info being transmitted. Needing to know if we can be reasonably sure that it would be working on Labor Day, for possible use for the Triathlon Race. Thanks in advance!! Richard Seitz

[K5PRK] Preparedness Fair in Plano September 21, 2024

Besides the Plano Balloon Festival that weekend there will be a Preparedness Fair on Saturday Sept 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This is a great event to see demonstrations on how to prepare you and your family for when a disaster strikes. In the past I have helped at the event with an amateur radio demonstration. They also have several classes that might be of interest. It is amazing to learn some of the simple ways to do things to increase your family's preparedness. This is a fun event.Hopefully there's some munchies again to sample this year. [K5PRK] PARK @ 〞〞〞
Calling the PARK PR team - it would be a good idea, I think, for PARK to also have a promotional booth / table something at the Plano Balloon Festival. If the balloons are being tracked by ARPS, then a map showing the locations of the balloons, the teams, and some information about what services are being provided, and how (without getting into details about frequencies or PL tones for security reasons.) Have pamphlets on ham radio, and we need to make something for PARK, which, IMHO, also includes other local area ham clubs because people may travel from Dallas, or McKinney, and knowing there's a bunch of clubs is better than only learning about one. Maybe coordinate with several clubs to make one brochure, with several club details & contact info on the back. Will also be helpful with future outreach. Excellent sir! Thank you. That was quick shipping for the battery! What are the AH on the Amazon batteries? and what was the coast per battery? IT could be something we have on the table at the next meeting for any member to proffer a price. Depending on the size, I might want one to replace the battery in my "I don't know how old" UPS. Board duties 〞 PR
During our meeting Monday, I started to jot down some of the things we mentioned that PR can do Please feel free to correct, add to, etc so we can hone this opportunity. ============ Find local events to represent the club to target audience. Representing the club at events, Recruit and manage volunteers to staff appearances: positive, outgoing people of any age. Speaking to individual club members about their interest and ability to assist. Maintain a PR list for e-mail blasts about for announcements about club meetings, programs, activities, elmers available for those interested in specific things, license testing, and more. Innovate new outreach including mailers, EDDM, as well as marketing the club to local organizations, schools, clubs, media, etc Handle incoming requests and refer the request to the appropriate board member, elmer, or individual. === Questions arise when it comes to Social media. Because when it comes to posting "as" the club, is that the purvey of the webmaster, or does the webmaster grant the PR person the credentials to do social media posting as PARK? -- Anthony Burokas General Class Ham (KB3DVS) VP: Plano Amateur Radio Klub 每 http://k5prk.net 25-year video producer 〞 IEBA.com

PARK Board Meeting Agenda - Member Activation Contest
I also wanted to follow up on the member activation contest (MAC). I remember Sam was waiting on Anniversary cards to be printed, but I also wanted to find out who had the QSL cards that came in, in response to the MAC. Not only do we need to follow up on the physical cards, but determine who handles e-QSL, LOTW, QRZ, etc. As I'm sure each of those have people around the world sending their half of the QSL e/ contact xchange, but who handles the electronic replies for the club? Who has those credentials? Is the club even registered? I'm happy to take it on, as I was the one who created the MAC, but I'd need to work with whomever had the electronic credentials to get access, and I'd need the stack of QSL cards to begin the process of sending cards in return. PARK Board Meeting Agenda - Initiatives.
Taking note of Disck's challenges finding able bodies to help with repeater repairs, and general club activity participation, I feel it would be worthwhile for the board to identify and focus on a process to promote the club, and build awareness to local civic organizations, high schools, colleges, etc. Kind of a PR push campaign. One that would best be served collaborating with other active clubs as we're all in the same situation with lower attendance and participation after covid. === I also see an opportunity to step back and take a 10-foot view of the club and assess the board positions, the roles, the duties, and codify those duties into a club manual, so that, if the PR works and new people get involved, there's guidance on what the roles are, the boundaries, the process, etc. Much of this we have passed from person to person, but as with any "whisper down the lane" information gets lost to not passed on correctly. So leveraging our webmaster and club-owned cloud documents, we can encourage each board member to write out a paragraph on their duties, how it's done, what resources they use, provide links, and we can all build this manual together. THis will take participation from each of the current, and perhaps past board members to help ensure it is doubly reviewed and accurate- as we each also update it fro how _we_ did it. For instance, Johnnie had the Secretary position and process down pat, so while Sean is current Secretary, having Johnnie's input would be beneficial as well. Same with Communications. Dick is Chair, but Kip is the mastermind that engineered some of the systems we have integrated today. Kips input would be very valuable. I submit these topics for discussion at the board meeting. Auction Battery box delivered / Ebay Items 2
I took home the Battery box that Bruce Cameron won at the club auction but he forgot when he left. I guess he was more excited about the Xeigu G90 he won. :) Anyway, he came by today and picked the battery box up so I think that means all the Auction items are complete. For disclosure: please find, attached, receipts two donated items that were sold on Ebay, one more is still listed. These two bring another $670+ to the club, + whatever the last one sells for. Larry Moyer & PARK's needs. 2
To thank Larry Moyer for his generous donations, I took him out to lunch today. We went to Pei Wei and he appreciated the suggestion. We talked about radios, antennas, campers, and more. He still gets out to operate from time to time, even rigging up the rear hatch of his Kia Soul with a trunk limp mount where he screws in his Tarheel HF vertical and then lets the hatch open all the way up, so it points up in the air. He seems to get out and operate at least once a week. He's a POTA hunter and actually spoke about getting involved with the club again. Which made me think... I think the board should look to see what various roles and opportunities there may be to be involved in the club that don't involve physical exertion - like - Doing PR and contact media about the club, is a role anyone with a computer or phone can do with no travel. Or researching potential locations for winter field day, indoors but with adjacent accessible grassy area that can be occupied for the day and possibly evening. Club QSL responses. Organizing club contests and operating activities (kinda like the club activation contest, but smaller, or club member participation in existing contests. Participating in the weekly casual net. etc. I think there are several club tasks that require the time that many of us with jobs, family, and other obligations don't have.
