Re: Editor and Librarian

A Powerbook wasn¡¯t really on my radar, but now it seems to have some appeal.

And for midi librarian work, it needn¡¯t be the latest.? It needn¡¯t even be all that fast.

It would have to fit in a rack drawer.? Were it 1U it would be super cool.

Right now, I¡¯m using a G4 graphite with keyspan card.? But those things go for hundreds of dollars ¨C I need two more.

I¡¯m also using a SSD startup drive, but I don¡¯t know if the kit is backwards compatible to a laptop ¨C or a G3 ¨C gonna hafta check that out.

The SSD makes startup very sweet and convinced me to still allow the Mac in serious contention for the job.

So, a plethora of questions presents:

What¡¯s the last, best Mac laptop with a serial port??

What¡¯s the biggest screen in Mac laptop with a serial port?

What¡¯s the last best tower with a serial port?

Like I said, it¡¯s not about power (I¡¯ve been using a 7300 for some stuff) but about reliability or even serviceability in the long term.

?

1. Powerbooks g3 can be found sometimes around 100.
2. A rack drawer can do the job
3. Kurz "it's the sound", old graphics are enough. And you have vga out on powerbooks for external monitor
