Re: Forum change?
Hi Graeme Thank you for sharing in. The search for an other solution is overdue if Yahoo is not willing to change to a better form, or at least give an answer when asked.? We have also the same understanding why Facebook and the Bolger, Duckworks and in my experience in a lesser form "boatbuilder design net". It ends in a bla, bla, bla. A dedicated group like ours need a strict admitance regulation which works perfect. Not possible with Facebook.? I was looking in your proposed Groups.io presence. Intersting story by the way and this looks promising. The system looks good and I was looking at the transfered "Oregon group" and have to say it looks good. Only negative point is the pricing. Because the free "Basic group" would be to less, so the "Premium group" would be the minimum.? Thanks again, this is till now the only other alternative. ? Bernd |

Re: Forum change?
Agreed about facebook as a platform for a group. It's lousy, and it's facebook. The Bolger group is fractured as you say. Duckworks on facebook is nothing like it was on Yahoo up until a couple of years ago when it started being moderated to hell. The facebook style doesn't cater to posting detailed information, so it's just shallow hi, hi, and hi again, and oooh a pretty photo, and yes, yes, and hi again and again. Loads of nattering.?And did I say?it's facebook - a no-go no-no? Ok, here is the introduction page for Groups.io by Mark Fletcher. He started ONElist in 1998.?ONElist changed name to eGroups. Yahoo bought that in 2000. Now Fletcher has set up Groups.io to save email groups like Yahoo's groups?from extinction. All the stuff in a Yahoo group it's said can be copied over to it's double on Groups.io ---?messages, members, archives, pics, files, databases, ets, etc. And then it looks as if?updates continue to be transferred over from Yahoo so that members putting something new into the Yahoo group site will see it appear also over at the Groups.io site after a while. The two can run in parallel except things aren't passed to Yahoo from io. "...Google Groups hasn¡¯t been updated in years, and some of Yahoo¡¯s recent changes have actually made Yahoo Groups worse! And yet, millions of people put up with this uncertainty and neglect, because email groups are still one of the best ways to communicate with groups of people. And I?have a plan to make them even better..." Easy Groups Transfer"Do you have a Yahoo Group or Google Group that you would like to transfer to Groups.io? We've made the process easy." /g/Group_Help/topic/to_move_from_yahoo/12125228 Groups are moving to .io even if just to ensure that if Yahoo suddenly shuts down groups then all the stuff will be backed up at the group at .io Here's an example of a rather active, then and recently,?yahoo boating community group that recently started the transfer, Western Oregon Messabouts (The Coots): Yahoo home page. Look down at the message history table. Groups.io home page. Also?look at the message history table. John Kohnen is that group's owner/moderator and is pretty?clued up?when it comes to IT and interwebby things. I'll say that?if John has no problems with the Groups.io transfer for his group then that is a pretty good recommendation... I don't see photos or files there myself, but then I haven't joined the groups.io version which happens after you post a message there and are approved by the moderator. I believe?a member would see more available functions equivalent to what Yahoo groups have. ?Anybody Having Trouble Joining the New Oregon Coots Group? |

Domenico
See my other letter concerning the forum. By the way, here explain why I against an other forum. There are a lot of KD 860. But first, I had no time to do it and the main thing is, that just here is a lot of information concerning the KD 860 and issues which are for the KD 860 important. That is the beauty of this forum. You will (besides at the Gougeon brothers pages) more information how to work with Epoxy Cheers Bernd |
Re: Forum change?
Hello Pat et all
General I am against to close this forum Point. But and here we go, since some time it is almost impossible to load ?photos at all or in a reasonable time independent of the file size. This started some months ago. For instance Andrew was trying to load photos from his ICARUS nothing and he has given up. In the meantime almost everybody had this problem. It was going so far that some set up a blogs, example Rien who is building an ECO 6, and an other person who has built and sailed his CATAPROA in South Africa. I made notes here so that the can be shown. But this is not the way to go. I was looking already at other forms like the Boatbuilder pages, Wooden boatbuilder some French and short in the one Patrick mentioned. I find them all not sadisfactory. Not clear or difficult in there structure. Pictures on the "wrong places" etc. Till now, I can only apply to you all to make a complaint to Yahoo or the new company that the do something on this problem. It can be not much what the have to change or "repair". Because it was working all the years.? This is how I see it. The other groups, like the Boadbuild infolves a lot of work to post photos. Others make mor work for the monitor(s). ?If somebody has an other better solution, why not. Perhaps whe can setup a sort of cloud for this forum and place there our phos, drawings and possible videos. I have at the moment not much time to set up/try such a setup. But if there is a real computer expert here, what is your opinion, can it be done? That the forums structure is not perfect I agree to. I have seen no good structured group till now. When we have sorted out this issue we can look to make it otherwise also better. Because, in relation to many other groups is here a lot of practical information. Cheers Bernd |
Rod to rudder
Here is a way to use a rod in a tube to turn the rudder housing actuator. The rod does not move side to side because of the tube, only in and out. The key is to get the link from the rod to the actuator the right length. You can have the other end of the rod attached to a link that leads to the tiller shaft actuator.? See attached video. It is only a mock up. Rod and link will be carbon in finished product. I will use cables to save weight for the link between tiller shafts. Cheers? Patrick |
Re: Forum change?
Hi Patrick et all I am all in for it. Yahoo sold this part also as far as I know. Generel the old shape of Yahoo do's not exists anymore. The new owner is not very keen on this sort of group (almost no advertisment to make money with it). But we have to be careful with it. The Bolker forum opted for Facebook. It is now split in a strange and not easy to recognice shape. Partly as the old group, partly at Facebook. The ingrity is gone and what I find (like the Facebook part), it is not restrcited to pure Bolger designs anymore. In the end, if somebody has a good idea, I am all in for it Bernd |
Forum change?
Hi all. Is is time to change the venue for the forum? There are some free forum options out there that might work for this group. It might be easier to catagorize topics and information on a different platform. We could still keep this one as a reference, but it will likely be relatively easy to migrate the pictures to a new platform.? Just a thought. Cheers Patrick |
