Re: ECO Powercat 5.5

Hello

Some client would like to sail the Yukon?and more in Alaska. The KD 7 was a design study which could?be easily realized. He was visiting Alaska more times and is, by the way, a very good photographer. So he was knowing what he wanted. Life changes, he got married, and also the priorities. I was relative far with the design when this happened. I like the boat by my self. I am also no 18 years anymore and can understand you very well. The work involved?in a plan is many hours and me have also to eat. So the price for such a single project would be comparably higher as for my standard designs. This was the reason the project was stopped.
Coming back to the ECO 55. The boat from British Columbia sails regularly?more up North. "Red Raven" the other ECO 55 was built in Juno. So these basic hull designs are very seaworthy.?
The KD 7 is a bit unconventional. If there are more persons interested in this project I would consider to make from it a standard design. Not too many changes, a single berth is of course to less. But between the bulkheads?is some freedom.

Cheers

Bernd

KD 7 power expedition boat

The boat ("KD 7 power") is mentioned only once, in this message:

From the layout I see that it might be "the droid you are looking for" - a good compromise between capacity and size (read - construction time), and it got me very excited about it.

How can I learn more about this design?
Is there a reason why it is not present at ikarus342000.com website? (may be the project was a complete disaster when got to the water?)

Re: Bau eines weiteren Hausboot-CAT (ECO 68)

Hi Jens

This looks again very professional. The idea with the protection?is very good as well as the fin. The boat is so light and so high that with site wind the boat is difficult to control. So I am busy designing a sort of "Daggerboard" on the side of the dinette. A single one at?one side is enough.

Cheers

Bernd

Re: Bau eines weiteren Hausboot-CAT (ECO 68)

Hello Bernd, Hello all,

I have now finished both hulls.
As keel protection, I glued the polyester webbing belt with the vacuum infusion process. The belts were previously washed in the washing machine at 60 ¡ã C and rinsed with silicone remover.
Both hulls have a device that allows me to unfold small fins. I think that's good for the straight ahead.
All the details can be seen very well in the photos.

best regards,
Jens

Things are going:

Re: Duo 800 old style

Hello Alxander

There exists no deck plan, up to you.
Logical, most used second-hand rigs and I do not know them. I can not tell where to place winches or other equipment. Example place for jib bock
etc. Nice to hear you started again

Cheers

Bernd

Bernd,

After year and half of doing nothing I am back at Duo800 rebuild project.
From previous owner I got plans but the deckplan is missing so I need the information where to place cleats, stays, etc.

Can You help?

Aleksander

Hi Lee Ann!
I would love to try to answer any questions you have. Send me an email and we can set up a chat. voya12m at yahoo dot com
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Re: KD 122

Hi Patrick, are you building the 122? Gosh that's big, especially with just one arm?? I believe you said you were building in USA near Chesapeake (sp) ? I am in Texas and hoping to start KD860 near end of year.? You could answer more questions than I even know to ask I bet! Please tell me all you can about your efforts so far.? It seems you built a huge barn first! Anything you might say would be a help! I am a rather old woman to be doing this, but it has always been a dream of mine.?? Thank you Lee Ann

Hi everyone

We have been working on the aft hulls recently. We decided to build steps and so I had to change the aft hull ¡°deck¡± line on the outboard side to change the hulls. Curves were not working, so I drew a straight line. I think it does not change the look too much. The sheer line has not changed.. We made some cleats from solid fiberglass rod and carbon draped over. And we glassed the first stanchion bases, also fiberglass rod, to the bulkheads and hull sides. They feel very stiff and solid. We also put a hatch in the lower step for ¡°wet¡± things.?

Oh, and by the way the port side steering link worked very well. We moved the sleeve for the rod closer to the tiller shaft 15mm and now the tiller can pivot easily through 100 degrees and still has a good angle from the link to the rod. I hope that makes sense.

There is a big storm on the east coast of the USA at the moment, but it has only had a minor effect where we are. Our hearts are with those of you that were hit hard. Take heart, help is on the way.?

Cheers
Patrick

Re: KD 122

Hi Domenico
Thank you, and yes, I also thought of opening the bottom step to the inboard side of each hull. But it would probably change other things significantly like the placement of the aft cross beam and the main sheet traveler and the backstay attachment, etc. And Bernd likes to keep some sheer line curve on the inboard side also. So i kept the curve on the inboard side of the bottom steps and will bring the top steps all the way to the inboard side as a place to do outboard motor maintenance. The rudder does seem to be in the way of the bottom step at first, unless you think of the bottom step as a convenient way to access the rudder instead of a boarding place. There will be an aft crossbeam with a net and swing ladder that can also be a swim platform and dinghy storage and an easy place to unload provisions that will be easier I think. And thanks for the pictures, you have made a beautiful boat. Very inspiring.

And to Lee: yes, come and help me some more when you can get away. We miss you both.

Cheers
Patrick

Re: KD 122

Patrick, Laura and I were just wondering how the boat is coming along. Great to see the progress; fine work as usual! She looks bigger every time we see a photo :-)

I look forward to seeing you & it again. I¡¯m hoping to at least attend launch one day.

Best to you and the family,

Lee & Laura

Re: KD 122

Hi Patrick

Good that you are out of the main track of the hurricane. Poor people which are in the line, ok the wind is less, I have the feeling the rain is doing more damage as the wind. Fingers crossed for them.
By the way, can you make a sketch for a better working of the rudder housing??Only simple?sketch and send it to my private mail. I will then change the plan accordingly.

Cheers

Bernd

KD ITALY

Ciao

Installed the stay with the addition of the beam tensioner

Bye

Re: KD 122

ongratulations wonderful work.
The steps are beautiful but I would have bent them into the inside of the two hulls. So I did not have the rudders in front of me .... It's my thought ;-)

Re: KD 122

Hi Patric

Not to much wind and a bit more try. Or was you this time out of the line.?
You were very busy so to see. You have the knack for carbon cleats and fasteners. The transom area looks okay to me. I like the big fillet on the bridge/hull.

Cheers

Re: KD 122

Hi everyone
I have been working on the aft hulls recently. I decided to build steps, and I had to change the aft hull ¡°deck¡± line (sheer line remains the same) in order to hide the steps on the outboard side. Curves were not working, so we went with a straight line in profile. It curves a little athwartships. I tried to keep the spirit of the design, and I have changed the look a little, but not too much I hope. Cleats are a solid fiberglass rod with carbon draped over. There is also a bracket visible for an aft crossbeam, and an eye on each hull for towing a drogue.

We also installed our first stanchion base, which is solid fiberglass rod glassed to the bulkhead and hull side. It was much easier and faster than I first anticipated. It feels very solid. The stanchion is a fiberglass tube which fits over the rod.

I should also mention that the steering link on the port side works better than the one on the starboard side. I moved the rod sleeve closer to the tiller shaft pivot point by 15mm and that allowed the shaft to pivot through 100 degrees and not reach the end of its good working angle from the link to the rod. I hope that makes sense.

Cheers
Patrick

Re: Eco 65 houseboat "Galadriel"

Hello Holger, yes you can be proud, this is progress. Good thinking to use the space betweenBH4 and 5 as you will do. I like the open cockpit space.?
