The building of my Cataproa was really funny, ?I used a lot of stuff from some older building projects.
The yellow foam is Corecell, the green foam Airex, outside carbon fibre, inside biaxial fibre.
If I would build it again, my choice would be plywood:) It takes ?less time and is cheaper.

Cheers,

Harald

That looks fantastic. This might be a silly question but what material is that?

Re: KD 860 FI

Pete
Good job. It is surreal for me to see your boat completed. A deeply wonderful thing.

Did you make your own wishbone boom? Are the mainsheet loads less than expected with the boom?

It looks great. Please send post more pictures and videos. Maybe an interior tour?
Cheers
Patrick

All your hard work has paid off Pete. Looks great, I really love the 860

Re: KD 860 FI

Big kudos on a wonderful build. 10 years, eh? That is seriously commitment. I have been going almost 12 months on my ECO 6 and it is not easy some mornings to maintain the enthusiasm to continue the work. Of course your brief video ?shows the pay-off. 11 knots on an early sail is what its all about and I guess that is what keeps us going with the build. Well done.

Thank you very much Bernd.

Hi Ivo

Short, that 95 % of the production catamarans use keels and spoil, one of the great advantages of these,
the possibility to sail in small un-deap coves for fun, or beach the boat for fun nobody in the boating
press is talking about. I am not alone to use a center mounted (almost pod) mounted dagger board.?
A dagger board dos not slam. Can it be more noisy as boards in hulls. Under normal sailing conditions, not. In a storm? There will be
other overpowering noises. Running aground, a dagger board will damage the hull, the dagger board in the center not.?

Looking wonderful, congrats!

About the tacking, an angle of 90 degrees between tacks (if you look on the map/plotter) and keeping the speed is more than good. On all cats I sailed it is somewhere between 90-100 degrees. So you are on the good side of this. Don¡¯t worry.
Just put some good pictures of the mainsail when sailing strong to the wind from the boom straight up and we will have a look if it is ok. But tacking through 90 with a cat on speed is really good.

Hello all!

I have finally finished the boat (almost) after more than 10 years. I don't even remember when I started, I'll have to check the old posts.
?
I had the pleasure of having my whole family on the second test sailing: my wife, two adult children and two teenagers. Only I have even a little sailing experience so far.
?
The boat turns really well, even coming about go great, at least in a light wind. While beating the speed was 5-7 knots in about 5 m/s wind. After anchoring, on the way back the wind increased to about 8-9 meters per second. I put a reef in the mainsail just to be sure and it seemed like a good idea in the end. On beam reach the maximum speed was 11 knots. It felt really good to get the boat going and see the wake disappear.
?
The boat definitely has potential as long as I learn how to adjust the sails. In addition, I got the wrong kind of mainsail: the tack angle is about 90 degrees, while in Berndt's picture it is 77 degrees, and thus I can't get the leech tight enough with my wishbone boom. I have to negotiate with the seller of the sail about the repair.
?
I'll put a couple of pictures and a short video on the forum.
?
Fair winds!
Pete

Re: KD 860 FI

Hi Pete
?
CONGRATULATIONS This looks as expected. Fantastic.?
It was for a long period of time you was building this beauty.?
Alone temperaure wise is it not easy to build a boat with Epoxy in Finland.
As I understand you moved also to an other house in this period.
It looks very scenic by the way. I mean the setting of your house.
What you write about performance sounds good. I hope you can sort out the mainsail problem.
Many sailmakers are used to make very full mainsails. A flat cut for multihull sails is important (corde not more as 4 %)

Enjoy your boat and keep us informed about your adventures.
?
Cheers? Bernd

Is the inside finished??

To have a clean bridge, without a structure down under, which could possibly slam and/or be noisy?

P.S. I do not know anything about boating and sailing, so excuse my ignorance and maybe stupid and boring questions.

Why??

Moderated Re: Hunting for the perfect little winter boat

The insulation of the cabin is no problem. The effect is a cooler place in the sun and hopefully ?warmer at night. But it needs a little bit more time to build, Bernd`s Plywood Cabin is faster and cheaper!?

Cheers,

Harald

Hello,
Can KD 1000 be build with dagger boards into two hills like Duo 1000?

Moderated Re: Hunting for the perfect little winter boat

Thanks for the replies guys! The cataproa is gorgeous and looks like a boat well suited to many an adventure!

Rod

This looks sublime. Your workmanship, unbelievable.
Even professional boat builder know, and are used to, the LITTLE-effect.

I keep my fingers crossed that you make it till your set date.
You have some very interesting solutions, like the mast top.

Cheers

Bernd

Rod McLaren <nkosuohene@...> added the album Working towards the launch date - the ECO 6 in Canada : I did miss launching the ECO 6 by my 75th birthday but I am still hopeful to be in the water in time to join the annual sailing/camping event I have organized for 11 years, the Elbow Run, departing July 16. As any of you who have built boats know, its all the "little" things that take a lot of time to complete. Here is a glimpse into where the boat is today.
