Moderated Re: LiPo batteries

The 'problem' was not in context of battery. My text probably was a bit misleading here.

In case self assembly is an option, I have good experience with 'Docan Tech' (Daisy). I think their pricing is somewhat ok. I do have a 16s 120ah in the camper. A 8s 200ah at home and a 16s 230ah for a my brothers water generator..the latter we just assembled before I went to Italy, one week ago. (Sadly having a Problem and going back now.)
Anyway: ATM they charge I think 85 USD per 230Ah cell+shipping. They have 280ah in stock as well. Every time I ordered: Good Service, grade A and IR matched (tested).
I have a BMS for These as well of course.

Yes Bernd full body is the only structure that convinces me and the shape will be very nice.
It will be a Duo 900 Aggressive and bad your design masks this and I had no doubts. I like it as it is!
Bye

Busy body, a nice start for the wing mast. Looks good.

Cheers

Moderated Duo 900 Italy + wing mast

Hi Bernd
Some development work also on the Duo 900 Italy
Hulls in place, the pipes have been painted and do the last of the paint on the hulls.
In the meantime I am working on the 10,80m long wing mast.

Moderated Re: Eco 6 powercat modelled after the 55 with steering wheel and door in center

Hi Kent

A general remark. The ECO 55 sail version and ECO 55 power cats are different in the cabin structure and, more importantly, the underwater.
So it is not done to change a bit the cabin structure. The more important part is the change in the transom area for the weight
of the outboard engine and the optimized shape for a low-resistance water exit. So the power of the engine will be used more efficient.

Cheers

Bernd

Moderated Re: KD 122 Italy two build

Hi Domenico
Nice progress, on both. The photo from KD 122, the DUO 900, and the wing mast in between are impressive.
I think the other builders were falling victim to Covid or the inflation or whatever.?
It looks like you are the only person who is working on their boats.
Enjoy the summer. I know even here we had almost 40 degrees already. So take it easy
Cheers

Hi Bernd last photos of KD122 Italy before the break. the work starts again in September. too hot for the epoxy.
But in the meantime the electrical and plumbing works began.
I dedicate a few weeks of work to the Duo 900 on the wing mast and before the end of 2022 both the kd 122 and the Duo 900 will go in the water

Moderated Re: Smaller K Designs models: small and trailerable or larger and more creature comforts

I built the 5.5 and also added the extension tabs for supporting a 20Hp motor. I am still struggling with jockeying weight around to get a good balance. I wish I had built the echo 6.?

Phil?

Hi everyone,
My thoughts are on building a eco 6 powercat. But I would like to stay with a deck designed like the 55 with the steaming wheel and cabin door in the centre. Anyone tried that?

Anyone have thoughts on this? Basically a eco 55 the size of the 6

Moderated Re: Cost of building

In Italy we say: "the boats cost as per kg and will sell as per lenght"

There are funny things. For instance Harry proa to KD 122 (how is it possible or logical to compare them). They have more or less the same length.
Material wise $ 109120,00 for the KD 122, Harry proa 40 $ 28160,00. You know by yourself that that is impossible in the light of what for instance one square meter of plywood and what a square meter of Airex is costing?
Construction time is the same. With a piece of plywood and some Epoxy, you can start without a lot of experience. Learning to work with the vacuum technique is another matter. This will cost a lot of time and wasted material.
You were drawing yourself already the right conclusion. It is not conclusive i.e. it is
not usable.?

Cheers

Hi, I would like to throw in my two cents . I started sailing with a vivacity 20 very slow , upgraded to a vandestadt 23 class racer ok. Then I built a dudley dix 26 beautiful very fast I raced this with my children and their mates, later they left the house and it was only me, my wife do not sail or go on the water. I kept the Didi 26? on a trailer at? the lake and launched when used.?
As I got older I realized that the boat was slowly becoming too large and too much work for one person.

I build a Cataproa and I can tel anybody that this is the ideal boat for a single sailor. You can sail daytrips with two but for a person that does not have a crew always available I can assure you that my opinion is to go as small as possible The Cataproa has storage for all your food and stuff for a camping trip.

I sail it on lakes and the ocean and it is dry and safe. It sail quite fast for such a small boat easily with 23-25 feet boats. I keep it assembled on a hoby 14 trailer. I only have to push in the mast and tie up the halyard and mainsheet screw on the 2 hp yamaha. I stop at the beach with the wheels just in the water 100 - 150 mm and push it off and go sail. Recovering I use a winch to get it back on the trailer by lifting the bows on the roller and connecting the winch, winching it on easily and remove sail and mast and motor and strap down ready to go.

I think it is easy to get carried away with your dreams, but be sensible really look at your real needs and build accordingly. This will save a lot of cost and heartache and above all time. I built full time in a month and then went sailing.

Cheers
Philip Malan
