I've known John for almost 15 years and I was really happy to see him again. He's a very nice person and a great artist. It has been a great pleasure and a great honor to be playing with him. GB --- In jazz_guitar@..., JVegaTrio@... wrote:

Guillermo, Juan,
John Stowell definitely is a very nice person and an incredible guitar player. He’s a real favorite of mine. He’s very original sounding in every way. He gets a lot of praise for his chord and harmonic work but I think he is just as impressive as a single line soloist. Brian,
Any CD recommendations for his single note work? Rob Guillermo, Juan, John Stowell definitely is a very nice person and an incredible guitar player. He’s a real favorite of mine. Rob,
A few years ago John gave me a bunch of his music all recorded on CD-R’s so I don’t know where some of it came from. I also have a CD called White Men Can’t Monk and another put out by the guy who builds his acoustic guitars that is all solo guitar performed on different instruments made by this particular luthier. It’s a great CD and very much worth having. However, if you are not already familiar with John’s work you might want to go to YouTube and watch several things he does before you plunge in. He is harmonically pretty sophisticated and may not be everybody’s cup of tea. The big chords with all the close and spread out intervals is really the main features of his playing but his soloing is to me equally interesting. It’s every bit as unique and sophisticated as his chordal work. Brian From: Rob Ferrari Sent: Thursday, December 02, 2010 3:34 PM To: jazz_guitar@...
